In the essence of fair and balanced reporting I wanted to pass along this set of ratings for Monday Night Football. While ratings are down from last year after two weeks, MNF is destroyed every other show on television during the three games they've aired this year. An average of 8+ million (9.1 Rating) people watched the Redskins-Eagles game making it the second most watched show on cable for the year (High School Musical #1), and the number one (cable or network television) for the night.
Even more impressive than that is that ESPN's three Monday Night telecasts have finished first on their respective nights (cable or network television), and they also rank second, third, and fifth in overall ratings for the year. To beat out network television when just over half the Country has cable is a pretty big deal.
With that said......There's going to be a HUGE drop in numbers next week as Men everywhere lose their right to the remote when Dancing With The Stars, The Bachelor, Heroes, and Two And A Half Men all start back up. If they start beating those shows routinely then I'll be REALLY impressed. That's the one true advantage SNIFNIA has over MNF....there's nothing on TV to compete with NBC. Desperate Housewives just isn't pulling the way it was, and NBC even beat the Emmys last Sunday in the Ratings. Allbeit the Primetime Emmys, which no one cares about, but they're still the Emmys.

Dammit, AA, you're supposed to READ the press releases, not PROPERLY INTERPRET them!
ReplyDeleteI'll take that as a compliment.
ReplyDeleteso you're saying people watch the daytime emmys?
ReplyDeleteFor some reason they do rs27.
ReplyDeleteUm..AA maybe you should read this..I think you have your awards shows mixed up.

No one watches the daytime emmys..
Hmmm....I stand corrected. Why do people watch either?
ReplyDeleteI watched the primetime emmys because I just like to see what Jon Stewart, Colbert and Carrell have to say
ReplyDeleteI'll give you that one RS, a lot of the better shows are pulling in awards. I probably won't watch until Always Sunny in Philadelphia wins something though.
ReplyDeleteYou must be an abortion survivor who wears a cape then???
ReplyDeleteCable's in just over half the country????? How about almost 90%!!
ReplyDeleteAnd despite the nonsense coming out of Bristol's p.r.machine, the MNF ratings are by far the lowest in the history of the show. The media writers are too stupid to figure this out. Wake up......
Anon, I'd love to see where you found that stat, but 90% is impossible. I think the total is around 60% for the country.
ReplyDeleteDo your homework. 88-90% is the figure. Call any ad agency. And while you're at it, don't forget that ESPN spent $1.1 billion a year to wind up with that dreck schedule. Disney spent less over the long term for Pixar. Old Mark Shapiro sold his bosses this bill of goods before he walked out the door for Six Flags. Have you checked out THEIR stock price lately? They should call it Three-and-a-half Flags. It's a business full of frauds......
ReplyDeleteAnon, you really need to do YOUR homework before you start going crazy. 90% of the country having anything is impossible. Hell even having a TV wouldn't be 90%. Think of all of the areas of the country. Poor cities, Mountains, Farm lands...
ReplyDeleteI can't find 2007 numbers but in 2006 the number was 67%. You see it here in this Nielsen Study Article.
