Usain Bolt Sets Another WR In 200 Meter Final
Wednesday, August 20, 2008

I'm all for Michael Phelps and patriotism, but this kid from Jamaica is just off the charts fast. Usain Bolt just set a new world record in the 200-Meter Final with a 19.30 beating the previous record time of 19.32 by Michael Johnson. USA's Wallace Spearmon finished third but was disqualified for running out of his lane, so Shawn Crawford (also of the U.S.) took the bronze in his place. Churandy Martina of the Netherlands-Antilles finished second in 19.82 and was never even close to Bolt.
I've also never been more pissed in my life that NBC didn't show it live online just to save it for primetime tonight. It's my mission now to find the video and post it here. If you see it online please let me know.

The Sox Get Robbed By The Wall Yet Again
Wednesday, August 06, 2008
At the beginning of July it was the Yankees using the wall to their advantage, but today it's Ross Gload and the Royals using the padded edge....
Okay that was just insane. I know a lot of people use the cliche that you see something new everyday, but it's safe to say that I haven't seen that before. How Ross Gload, even realized that the ball was spinning around up there is amazing in its own right. It's also an added bonus that it screwed the Red Sox again!

The Josh Hamilton Show
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
I pulled this for Deadspin this morning, but wanted to post it here as well. Here's Josh Hamilton's amazing run last night in the first round. There's some added Berman and Morgan as well for your entertainment....
I think after that we can officially say that his story has reached Favre-like proportions. Last night was awesome, but I think it's time to talk about something else when it comes to this kid. But that's just me.

Kobe, Please Tell Shaq How His A** Tastes
Monday, June 23, 2008
I'm absolutely speechless after this TMZ clip of Shaq performing a song directed at Kobe Bryant at a New York Club. Just sit back and enjoy....
Wow.....just wow. Amazing. And even more amazing is that they just aired it on Sports Center complete with the vasectomy line. Mike Greenberg has never looked whiter and the fact that Stephen A. Smith's phone cut out just makes me laugh.
Amazing. And who said the NBA offseason wasn't entertaining?! Some one get Fu-Schnickens on the line for a reunion tour post haste!!!

The Boston Celtics Are Your 2007-2008 NBA Champions
Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Well Boston has done it again and I don't know what to say. There's not a single player on this team that you can hate (unless you're a Lakers fan) and you couldn't even really root against them (unless you're Jemele Hill). Screw all the particulars and stats....the Celtics put up 131 points (131!) and KG is certifiable. Let's get into the video....
Just a great way for arguably three of the best players to never win a title, to take solidify their greatness in the league. And oh yes...you're certified KG...but who the hell cares? Be as crazy as you want to be tonight. Congrats again Boston and be careful tonight....there's a full moon out there. Oh and what I said earlier about hating all of you.....you booed Stu Scott, so we're cool!

Tiger Survives To Win One Of The Greatest U.S. Opens Ever
Monday, June 16, 2008

Ninety one holes....91! I questioned the 18-hole Playoff before the start today to myself, and more often than not this format probably end in a blowout, but today and the whole five-day period completed arguably the best rounds of Golf I've ever seen. The ride of Tiger Woods' Round yesterday and the drama of the Playoff today was simply amazing and Golf has never captivated me in this way before.
I thought at the beginning of the day that Mediate had a chance, but when he went down three at the turn I (and everyone else) counted him out. In the section of the course that Tiger owns, Mediate went birdie, birdie, birdie, and tied it up. He then sank an astonishing putt on 16 and took the lead. Tiger saved his best for last and on the Par-5 18th he made the green in two and put the pressure on Mediate. Tiger got his birdie with a two putt and then Mediate was left with the longest four footer of his life. He stepped up to the challenge and forced the sudden death portion of our program and I think all of us were left shaking our heads.
The 19th hole obviously went to Tiger and you can see that below, but the best part about this Tournament was Mediate. It's easy to root for or against Tiger at times, but I don't know how anyone could root against Rocco. The guy just loves Golf and after the putts on the 19th in the video below, you can see why he became America's Sweetheart over the weekend....
The best part of this whole duel wasn't the 19 holes (even though each one was special in its own right), but that it was one of those rare occasions where it didn't even matter who won. Mediate didn't come out on top, but no one is going to soon forget his run at Tiger Woods. Just a great, great Tournament and both deserve praise for a great run.
The sportsmanship, play, and tension made this a Father's Day weekend for the ages. I think we were all lucky for witnessing it (and if you didn't today, then I hope this site helped a bit) and thanks for playing along with me during the live-blogs. Tiger Woods continues to amaze me and there's nothing left to do but marvel at his greatness. Unbelievable (there's that word again).

Tiger And Rocco For All The U.S. Open Marbles, Tomorrow
Sunday, June 15, 2008
What a finish, but it's not over yet! It was a battle of attrition just about the entire day, and even though he struggled early and was grimacing after every drive, Tiger Woods forced an 18-hole playoff tomorrow morning. It wasn't easy though as Woods had to hit this shot out of the rough and one putt to finally come even with Rocco Mediate on eighteen....
The guy just continues to amaze me every single time I watch him, but this was other-worldly. He was lifting up through most of his swings and even with the bad start, he still came out on top. As far as athletes go, he's in a class of his own. I also would be remiss if I didn't mention the play of Mediate who was steady and jovial throughout the round. It should be a great playoff starting at noon tomorrow. I'll be sure to keep you informed.

Manny Ramirez Is Insane (Not That You Didn't Know That Already)
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
I know we're not breaking any new ground here in the sanity of Manny department, and you may have already seen the Zapruder like footage Deadspin posted earlier, but this needs to be seen in slow motion to be appreciated.
Watch closely....
He caught it on the run, climbed the wall, high fived a fan, and then doubled up a runner. Insane. That's Bo Jackson running up the wall cool. Manny will never cease to amaze me.

Chris Paul Is A Magician
Friday, May 09, 2008

Most of us grew up during one of the best eras of NBA Basketball and because of that I think we're spoiled. Some of us got to enjoy Kareem, Barkley, Olajuwon, Malone, Stockton, Pippen, Malone, O'Neal, Bird, Drexler, Ewing, Magic, and Jordan in our lifetimes.
Us NBA heads are enjoying a renaissance of sorts in the NBA and while Lebron and Kobe continue to amaze there isn't a player I've been this excited about in quite some time. Chris Paul is like a combination of Stockton, Magic, and Jordan....but completely different (if that makes any sense). The kid is just out of his mind.....
Go back to the beginning and watch that full speed again. You'll thank me for it. I'll wait......
35 points and 9 assists? Are you kidding me?!?! I know that doesn't approach his best game, but in San Antonio that's crazy. By the end of the game both Paul and Parker were shaking their heads at each other. Even though the Spurs decided to come and play tonight, and the Hornets went down.....I just can't take my eyes off him. It's a good thing the kid is sponsored by Jordan if you ask me. This is the only series in the NBA Playoffs that matters right now, and it's the only one you should be watching.
(Also, Dan Shulman and Doris Burke are a great NBA Announcing team and I'm glad that Burke finally realized her potential. I love her "Oh!" as that Paul shot goes in.)

Cup Stacking Needs A Spot On ESPN
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
As I sat down to enjoy a night of television last night (the worst night of the week btw) I was flipping around and I decided to check what was on ESPN during a night with no Baseball or Basketball for the network. What was on? F'ing Poker.
I'm so sick of Poker that I actually get mad when it's on television (especially tourneys from 2006). So I went looking through YouTube today for Sports that they could use to fill the time and came across Cup Staking. I know it's been on the "Leader" before, but given that ESPN missed out on this eventual National Champion, it's time to bring it back. Via Barstool Sports....
Sure the kid's highlights were on Sports Center, but come on.....this needs to alternate with Karate contests and Timbersports as the only Sports on ESPN2 outside of Basketball and Baseball. I would never change the channel.

How Easy Is It To Declare For The NBA Draft? This Easy.....
Tuesday, May 06, 2008

A gentleman by the name of Zach Feinstein decided to test the powers that be at the National Basketball Association. With just a letter and a few forms of information the 5'8", 130 pound Junior at Washington University in St. Louis (double majoring in Systems Engineering and Applied Mathematics), is officially a candidate for the NBA Draft......
At this point I was unsure what would be needed next, so I waited to be contacted. How awesome is that? Even more how great would it be if a team completely f'ed up and took the kid?! Good work Zach and good luck in New York on June 26th!
Finally on April 1, I got a reply - a letter in my mailbox from the NBA. But this was no April Fools' joke. They were letting me into the NBA Draft.
All I needed to do was fill out 3 pages. I faxed those forms in on April 2nd.
Since I had waited and heard nothing back from the NBA in terms of confirmation, on the morning of April 14th I decided to call up the NBA. This conversation went quite well as Erika Ruiz quickly confirmed that all my papers were in order and no further steps needed to be made by me. And behold as of May 1 I am able to find myself on the Early Entry List at draftexpress.com and nbadraft.net under "unknown players".

Track And Field Is Intense!
Tuesday, April 29, 2008
There's really no reason for this post at all, but to A) Either gross you out with blood and/or B) Relay a great story I have about running. Just check out the gnarly results this Women's DMR produced at the Penn Relays. From Track & Field News via With Leather and SbB...
That's Stanford runner Alicia Follmar who took a "spike to the head" after a fall at the start of the race. As few of you know I was a runner in College and while I've been hit by a car (twice actually) and tore an ACL in a relay race, this is pretty badass. Not that she got stabbed with a spike, but that she finished the race....3rd!!!
Now for the only story I have that can top that. While running Cross Country my Freshman year in College, I was on a leg of a race that went downhill through a small set of woods at the 5-mile mark of a 6-mile course. A runner was about 20 yards ahead when I noticed something moving really fast in the woods off to the right. Being 5-miles in, my mind couldn't process what was coming until an animal leaped across the trail colliding into the guy directly ahead of me. A deer completely plowed through the guy as he did a complete sideways flip into the forest on the left side.
Perhaps the raddest and scariest thing I've ever seen in Sports. Thank you for obliging me by reading that and go on about your day.

How Japanese Taiwanese Players Solve Disputes With Umpires
Tuesday, April 08, 2008
I hadn't seen this April 4 clip anywhere so I thought I would share. If you've seen it elsewhere please accept my apologies. You know the drill.....Wait for it.....Waaaaaait for it......
So awesome on so many levels. First, he jumped and hit him with a flying elbow. Awesome. Second, the bullpen catcher was the one trying to stop him. Awesome. Third, he was out. Awesomest (yes I know that's not a word)! Milton Bradley would be proud my Taiwan brother.

Kevin Love Is Quite Strong
Saturday, April 05, 2008
There was video last week of Kevin Love hitting full court shots with a flick of the wrist, but this version is much better. Not only does he hit the full courter with ease he also throws in a half courter and a three quarter court shot beforehand just for the hell of it.
Via GLB....
I honestly can say I've never seen someone do that so easy. If he can do that by barely trying I think he could knock someone's head off if he tried.
Fatality! Love wins.

Gilbert Is F'ing Back!: A First Hand Account
Wednesday, April 02, 2008

There are very few things that make me happy in this world, and if you break it out I'm sure 9 out of 10 of them involve Sports. If you haven't caught on by this point I always capitalize the word Sports on this site. Do you know why? Sports has given me more joy in my life than any other thing. Sure the Love of your family is a great thing, but tell me the last time you jumped out of your seat and lost all control because your drunk Uncle talked to you at Thanksgiving. It hasn't happened.
Before you jump down my throat.....yes I've graduated College, yes I've had sex, and no I've never had a kid (thought we'd get that out of the way early). The greatest moment I've ever felt in my life was being in attendance during the Wizards defeat of the Bulls during the 2nd Round of the NBA Playoffs and Gilbert Arenas throwing the ball into the crowd as the (then) MCI Center went ballistic (see above). I'm sure a lot of things will top that in the future (Baby Awful?), but that moment combined with my fandome just blew me away. Sure I was at the George Mason-UConn game, but I had no vested interest in that game.
Fast forward to Wednesday night. I don't know how else to say this but I was privy to courtside seats (thanks Maj!) at the most important game of the Wizards season. When I was walking up to the Verizon Center I saw the most perfect and beautiful sign I've ever seen. It was on the giant wall of the V-Center and it featured the quote, "I'll Be Back," with a giant zero painted over the words. At about three minutes into the first quarter I'd learn that sign wasn't just a marketing ploy.
For some reason the crowd started to stir. Wait no....is Gil in uniform??? No g'damn way. Not happening. Against the Bucks?!? (Ed note: I've got goosebumps at this point). It's a timeout so everyone is just waiting and watching......
Fuck me......he's coming in!!! I'm sure that my child being born will blow this out of the water, but Gil walking on the court to the crowd at home was f'ing awesome. I can't even describe the feeling because my favorite player ever proceeded to just destroy the Bucks in the coming minutes. He hit every shot. He got a ball down low, faked, and hit a reverse layup. It's been a long time since I've felt "joy" in my life but this was joy......
Sure the craptastic Bucks won the game on a buzzer beater, and sure Gilbert might have looked a bit slow at times, but I could care less. I was courtside for the best comeback involving DC Sports since.....well ever.
(I greatly appreciate the times you let me drop the "National Veil" and you let me become a complete DC homer. Also many thanks to The Maj who is the f'ing man)

West "F**king" Virginia Students Are Talented

Mister Irrelevant has found one of the most amazing clips and beer pong tables ever assembled. Wait until the 2:30 mark for the finished product.....
I think the closest I ever came to something like this in College was when I tried to make a "Bottle Cap Coffee Table". I got like 17 caps in and decided to go get drunk. I also managed to procure a giant Ghostbusters sign that was made of wood. But that I stole off the 2nd deck of someones house in Downtown Harrisonburg. I didn't exactly "make it". Bravo WVU....you are teaching your students well.

Joey Gathright Not Only Jumps People, He Jumps Cars
Wednesday, March 26, 2008
I'd love to see a jump off between Adrian Wilson and Joey Gathright. Yesterday in the links I had a clip of Gathright jumping over a pitcher trying to make a tag along the first base line. This clip is from 2007 but the dude is jumping cars....
I remember watching a timed run from Gathright once and he got from home to third in about 9 seconds. The kid is ridiculous.

Cinderella Was Who We Thought They Were!
Sunday, March 23, 2008

In my Cinderella post the other day I failed to even bring up the team that everyone was already naming the Cinderella of the tournament in Davidson. Of course if everyone is calling you a sleeper and/or potential Cinderella it kind of diminishes the title, but I think after coming back from down 17 to knock off Georgetown....we've finally found our Cinderella.

The Drake And WKU Save The Tourney's Opening Round
Friday, March 21, 2008

Man I was dragging until this overtime game between the Hilltoppers and the Bulldogs. WKU was up big in the 2nd half before an awesome run in regulation by Drake that included an amazing dunk and about fourteen 3-pointers.
The end of Overtime included an idiotic foul by WKU with the game tied and 30 seconds left, but it worked out for them somehow....
While this game did destroy my bracket (well it sort of already was) it restored my faith in the Tournament's Opening Round. Great Basketball today and bravo WKU. Also, Tim Brando....could you step it up a notch perhaps? If I'm yelling in my apartment by myself then you could give it a little bit of inflection. Good lord....it's okay to get excited.
101-99 is a heck of a score too. Beats the hell out of 10 points in a half.
