Newspaper Fight!

I love when New York and Boston go at it. It's gotten a bit stale in Baseball, but a resurgence of the war late in the Football season is picking up the slack. For the past week or so two of the biggest publications in their respective cities have been taking veiled shots at each other. That was until today.

The New York papers (or tabloids) have been taking shots at Boston's Golden boy, and the Herald has had enough!

Jessica Heslam (Boston Herald): “Who’s afraid of Tom Brady now?” shouted the larger-than-life headline, next to the photo of Brady, who is suffering from a mild high ankle sprain. Even worse was the type below: “Girlie man limps home.”

Girlie man? Hardly. Jealousy is an ugly emotion. Brady’s got three Super Bowl rings, an undefeated season and a Brazilian bombshell who once dated Leonardo DiCaprio on his arm. No one should question his masculinity. No one!

Brady was on his way back to Boston last night. The Big Apple tabs may be having fun now, but we’ll see what they have to say after Super Bowl Sunday."

Steve Buckley (Boston Herald): "Boston sports fans just don’t give a damn what New Yorkers think any more. Sorry, New York, but Boston sports fans have too much going on to pay attention to whatever it is you happen to be whining about this week, last week or next week. And while this may read as though it were cleared first with the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, it’s not hometown boosterism.

It’s fact."
Nice return of service Boston Herald. Now we need the Times to bring up the Globe's Ron Borges and we've got WWIII!

Rodney Peete Asks The Tough Questions

This is the new game show on FOX called Moment of Truth. Somehow there's a lie detector and the questions get harder as more money is up for grabs (or something like that). Rodney Peete was a guest questioner for some reason and he had a tough one for the contestant....

The Football player is a guy by the name of Ty Keck who once played for the Giants (or so says the internet), and it was nice for Rodney Peete to take time "out of his busy schedule" to ask him that question. Oh and don't watch that show...it's terrible.

Jim Spanarkel Has A Special Message For You

It truly amazes me that people mess up on live broadcasts almost everyday, but this one is special. Jim Spanarkel is talking with Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez and he has a wonderful closing for the interview....

Ah yes....nothing like a freudian slip on-air. Good sex to you all!

(Thanks to Justin for sending this one my way)

Get Drunk Or Go Home!

The most infamous tailgaters, The Dead Tree Crew, were featured on Real Sports last night and did not disappoint. Via the Sporting Blog.....

Real Sports always does a great job with these type of stories and this one is no different. I personally hated my last trip to Fed Ex field for the Giants game this past season, but that's just me. I saw two full on brawls, people yelling at kids in Giants jerseys, and there was a rumor of a female fan getting accosted in a bathroom as well. There's also the fact that beers are $8 and the stadium's parking situation is just impossible.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I actually agree that it's pretty out of control. At least in Raljon er, Landover, Maryland it is. That's just one man's opinion though.

Oh The Hypocrisy Of It All, Stephen A. Smith Has A Blog

It was just over a month ago when I had a post on an interview that Stephen A. Smith did with and L.A. based site Further Off the Wall. In his interview he had many damning things to say about blogs but the highlight was this quote....."I respect the journalism industry, and the fact of the matter is ...someone with no training should not be allowed to have any kind of format whatsoever to disseminate to the masses to the level which they can."

Almost a month later what does the NBA expert decide to do? Start a blog of course! From Stephen A. Smith's "On The Blog" via Simon on Sports....

I’m actually doing something I never thought I’d do in my lifetime: writing a blog.
In the interest of being real, although I’ve been a journalist for more than 14 years, therefore intimately accustomed to writing, especially on the fly, I’ve never desired to have my own website, let alone write my own blog. But things change when your loved ones notice your notoriety more than you do, when they aspire for your voice to expand, when they’ve grown tired of the countless times they’ve heard critics rain venom without compunction because they sensed my voice was limited.
Well that's nice Stephen....I'm sure that's what people are looking for. More of you. While the fact that he has a blog is humorous on its own the best part is that he allows comments! This should be good.....

Peter Gammons Likes Blogs, He Really Really Does

The thing I find most funny about the whole MSM vs. Blogs war is the fact at how easy it is for a MSMer to become a blog hero. All you have to do is speak nicely about a few sites and they will probably never bash you again. Of course Peter Gammons doesn't need this to be respected but it's nice he sees value in multiple sources of information....

The fact is that we all know more about baseball because of the proliferation of creative thought. Run through Baseball Think Factory, The Baseball Analysts, Squawking Baseball, Sabernomics, Beyond the Box Score, Dan Agonistes, John Sickels’ minorleagueball.com. For everything, Deadspin.

Unfortunately, time keeps most of us from getting to those sites specific to teams. It’s amazing how many club officials read USS Mariner (Seattle), Fire Brand of the American League (Boston), Ducksnorts (San Diego), Athletics Nation (Oakland), Viva El Birdos (St. Louis), Lone Star Ball (Texas), River Ave. Blues (Yankees), MetsBlog.com, FishStripes (Florida), Dodger Thoughts, Bronx Banter (great writing), The LoHud Yankees Blog, Reds Reporter (Cincinnati), Bleed Cubbie Blue, Brew Crew Ball (Milwaukee) and more.
Now just pass that information on to Joe Morgan and maybe he'll do a little homework before each game using those sites.
