Jim Calhoun Is Not Amused By Your Agendas

Here's a hilarious video, via College Hoops Journal, from yesterday that I wanted to share. A freelance reporter named Ken Kreyeske, decided to pester Jim Calhoun about his $1.6 million salary, and how he can justify accepting it with the state of Connecticut in debt, and this was Calhoun's response....

Awesome. I really hate using the term "pwned", but if there was ever a moment to use it, now is the time.

  1. Well, I now see why they call you Mr. A-Hole, Mr. A-Hole.

I love it when dumb reporters ask dumb questions at press conferences. It always results in hilarity.

  2. @JFein- just like that idiot who asked Obama how he felt about ARod. As the great philosopher Ron White once said, "You can't fix stupid."

  3. The reporter was dumb but Calhoun still comes off like a dick bragging about his salary. "Not a penny less!"

If A-Rod or Tiger said that, people would be up in arms.

  4. The not a penny less line was a joke because Calhoun initally thought the guy was joking. I doubt he would have seriously answered with that if he knew what was going on.

I live in Connecticut...that journalist is a wacko...he got thrown out of the Governor's inauguration ball a couple years ago for doing something stupid. He's one of those guys that gives all reporters a bad name.

  6. Also, how much of Calhoun's salary is actually paid by UConn? Most bigtime coaches make more from shoe deals, tv-radio deals and private donors than their actual university salary.

  7. This guy is going to get exactly what he wants. Tomorrow he'll be all over First Take and calling into other various radio and TV shows.

Good for you coach. That reporter hasn't earned his Rites of patches so he can't ask that question.

  8. of course Calhoun came off as a dick..watch the video, he's not trying to be nice-he even says as much

  9. I think Calhoun was simply trying to disarm the reporter. The reporter thought he'd be able to get the coach to wobble and be defensive; Calhoun decided the best 'defense' would be an 'offensive' posture. The reporter had his little chess game all planned out and Calhoun decided to open with a Knight move instead of a pawn move...to use a chess metaphor.

  10. The best part is the weaselly "If these guys covered this stuff, I wouldn't have to do it."
    Asshat.
    That's Rob Parker-esque.

  11. @RJBO - did u hear all the other reporters grumble at him after that? that was f'n hilarious

  12. We give the university $12 million. While I am sure an accountant would have a field day with that figure, the best part was Calhoun gets $1.6 million and the cumulative salary of the men who actually make UConn a power in basketball (i.e., the labor) is $0.

How many of you would work for free while your boss receives $1.6 million a year and your firm makes $12 million a year?

  13. Of course the big irony in this is a coach from the made for TV Big Least is upset at member of the media. Especially this school which was been propped up by the WWL and the NYC media for years.

  16. I'm glad the guy asked the question. I'm so tired of the same banal press conferences. Too bad if Calhoun was taken aback. It's out of left field, and maybe the journo asking is a bit of a loon, but it's a legitimate question. I'll take more of this please.

  17. yeah Peter, and i'll gladly take more coaches giving the f-u to any waste of breath journalist

  18. Yeah, I guess it's tough to be a high paid basketball coach. Gotta lash out at those reporters who dare try and threaten that comfy lifestyle.

  19. This guy was a lefty plant. Why doesn't he criticize the CT AG or heads of other CT Govt departments for what they make?
