Al Jazeera Breaks In On Mitchell Report

Thursday, December 13, 2007

If anyone knows about how audio is patched in to these things please let me know because this completely caught me off guard.

You really can't be any clearer than that George. Also, can someone tell me if this was only an ESPN thing, or did all media outlets hear this?

I was hoping you'd get this. It kind of had me expecting Borat to pop out somewhere. Was definitely weird, though.

Yeah, heard it on the espnradio.com stream. Tirico apologized for it, but I didnt hear if he said what it was.

I would guess that it was a live translation and it did sound Russian to me too.

It was Clemens' new "trainer" some Khazikstani dude. Roughly translated, it means "You want the injection now? RIGHT NOW?? Are you fucking nuts? Let me guess, you're not by a TV or radio at the moment..."

Those were funny!

In all seriousness, I do hope we eventually find out the source of the audio. My best guess is that it was either an international feed or someone checking in on a conference call. In any event, those comments should not have aired.

In addition, if you watched the press conference on SNY or NESN today, please let me know if you also heard the audio glitch. This would determine whether or not the problem was confined to ESPN or whether it came from the pool feed provided by the local media in New York City. SNY and NESN were the only other sports networks that televised it live.

NESN had the same audio glitch go over the air. Comcast Sportsnet also picked up the SNY feed and the glitch also went over the air.

I happened to switch to WCBS-AM 880 in New York and they had the same glitch happen there. They cut into it a few seconds after it started, apologized, and likely waited until it cleared and resumed the audio feed.
