John Sterling Is Not Sure Of His Own Team's Batter Order (Even After He Just Read It On-Air)

Everyone knows about my love for WCBS Announcers John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. Well John Sterling is at it again my friends and this one will crack you up. Via the XMFan.com forum....
Can you tell Robinson Cano and Jose Molina apart? Apparently John "I Am Legend" Sterling cannot. In the midst of the eighth inning rally today, he started with his "Robbie Cano, don't you know" and "a ribbie from Robbie" bullshit when the Yanks scored the go ahead run. The only trouble was that Jose Molina was the hero with his two out double.

Too bad we have an announcer more concerned with his self-made legacy than with calling a good game. What a dick.
Oh you don't believe the submitter? How about some audio and video???

The best part of the whole thing is not only that he mentioned Molina two seconds before the pitch, but that he freaked out the at-bat before when Cano hit the sacrifice fly to tie the game. I can understand getting lost during a game but to add a homertastic freak out on top of it is just unbelievable. Too funny.

(Many thanks to J from Vegas Watch for the tip.)

  1. "Shane Spencer Homerun Dispenser" is the best ever. It cracks me up every time. It's so stupid

  2. all that after he said Molina was at the plate. Maybe Suzyn was giving him some work head and he got confused.

  3. Sterling sucks but compared to Waldman, Kay, and Singleton he's freaking Vin Scully.

  4. Hey, at least he corrected himself. I hate when announcers refuse to admit (or point out) a mistake on the air (like Michael Kay).

  5. How do you acknowledge it's one person and two seconds later claim it's someone else? I don't get how anyone could make that mistake.

  6. The biggest problem is that Sterling does this all the time. He is so concerned with getting in his taglines (because that's what numbskull Yankee fans like) that he doesn't pay attention to the game.

  7. Presumably John did not also notice Molina is a right handed hitter while Cano is lefty

  8. Good grief, John Sterling is awful. I don't know how anyone stands to listen to him.

There are not a whole lot of reasons why a Rangers fan can be glad he's a Rangers fan and not a Yankees fan, but the broadcasters are one of them. The sweet, smooth sounds of Eric Nadel and Victor Rojas on the radio are infinitely better than Sterling and Waldman.

  9. Yet another shining moment in the legacy of Harold Moskowitz.

  10. He's awful, he's more interested in those moronic and overplayed taglines than actually being a good announcer.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. But then yankee 'fans' deserve him and Suzy both.

  11. I am a 40 year Yankee fan and it amazes me the one of the most storied sports franchises in the world could have such an amalgam of absolutely awful announcers both on TV and radio. It is absolutely ridiculous. But they’ll keep them as long as people listen and watch.

  12. Anytime I get a chance
to listen to a Yankee game
    on ESPN instead I do,
    I can't take this bombastic
    blowhard!!!!John Sterling is
By far the worst radio announcer
    in history.
What bothers me is how the Yankee
brass don't seem to care about
    the quality of radio broadcasts.
We should organize a "Remove John Sterling" campaign.
He even fails to notice when there
    are outfield personel changes.
Swisher was taken out of a game
    and replaced by Johnny Damon
and he said Swisher made the catch
    then corrected himself and said
    Swisher and Damon look alike.
Sometimes he is so busy talking about nothing a play goes to first base and he takes 10 seconds to say if the runner was out or safe.
    I cannot take him anymore.

  13. Anyone who is a true Yankee fan
who has to listen to Yankee games
on the Radio due to work restraints
or no cable TV is truly suffering,
if he has to listen to John Stupid Sterling.
"It is high... It is far... it is
    caught on the warning track!!!"

Is he related to George Steinbrenner. Why is he not
    censored or reprimanded for his
    myriad faux pas and misjudgements
    and false calls and ramblings....

If noone in New York City likes him
why does he continue to call games?
