Don Imus Is At It Again

Unbelievable. From The Sporting Blog via Politico comes yet another Don Imus racially charged comment in regards to Adam "Pacman" Jones. The conversation was about how Jones wanted to drop the nickname of "Pacman" to turn a page in his career when Imus asked "what color is he?"....
During the show, conversation turned to a story about how suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones now wants to drop his well-known nickname. In the course of the segment, Imus is told that Jones has “been arrested six times since being drafted by Tennessee in 2005.”

Imus asks: “What color is he?”

“He’s African-American,” the host is informed by one of his on-air sidekicks.

“Well, there you go,” Imus said. “Now we know.”

Good lord. I don't even have words to describe how ignorant that is. Can we just send him to his ranch permanently please? Dick Enberg's earlier today was bad, but this is just downright racist. I don't defend anything Jones has done outside of Football, but there's no place for commentary like this.

  1. I agree with you, 100%. While there is no condoning Adam Jones' actions, there is no need for Don Imus to say what he said. It's despicible. Will the FCC please ban him from the air permanently?

  2. Maybe Imus was criticizing the racial profiling done by some police in the US.

But somehow I doubt it. What a buffoon!

  3. If this was just his first offense, then I'd say that the Jemele Hill comment was much worse.

Since Imus hasn't learned, he' an idiot.

  4. what's wrong with imus pointing out that tennessee only drafts african-americans?

  5. I'm pretty sure that was sarcasm. I'm no Imus fan but he can't possibly be that stupid, especially after his most recent incident.

  6. So you freak out over what Imus said and yet we need to leave Jemele Hill alone for calling Boston fans Nazi apologists? WOW. If you're gonna comment on out of place racial comments, at least stay consistent, AA.

  7. Who cares what Don Imas has to say? Is he really relevant?

  8. T hinds, Nazi's aren't a protected class in this country. Jemele sucks, we all know that. Even if what Imus said was sarcasm, why on earth would he even try to make a joke like that? Did he not like apologizing enough the first time around?

  9. Imus has made a career out of this type of talk. Only when the Rutgers story got out and went national did people actually pay attention.

He's obviously a racist, and has expressed these views for many years, and I cannot express how disgusted I am by his callousness.

That being said, he has a right to say what he wants. This country was founded on the tenant of free speech. Disagree with him all you want (I know I do), but saying he shouldn't be allowed to express himself opens the door to censorship, something all of us should be very, very afraid of.

  10. Good grief. If he had any sense at all, he'd try to steer clear of making any comments that could even remotely be construed as racist, but I guess he hasn't learned.

I wish he'd take off that stupid cowboy hat he wears. He's giving the rest of us who wear them a bad name.

  11. so sad...everyone has been reduced to a media spokesperson, brilliant sarcasm is now a crime? rock on imus

  12. Brilliant sarcasm? You gotta be kidding me. Please look up the definition of "brilliant" before attributing it to something like this.

  13. "Will the FCC please ban him from the air permanently?"

This kind of mentality is far more dangerous than anything Imus has ever said.

  14. I was listening to this live when it happened and I took it to mean that Pacman was arrested often because he's black, and therefore a target for harassment.

  15. t hinds,
Jemele Hill's 12th attempt to convey her hatred of the Boston Celtics is in no way worse than anything Imus has ever said. Don't kid yourself. Jemele Hill however was stupid and should be fired for her poor writing and poor judgment along with the editor who let it go out there. But back to Imus. He's run out of excuses. He cannot blame a bad joke reference from a Spike Lee movie, he cannot blame the hip-hop community, he cannot say Bernard McGuirk or Sid Rosenberg were at the pitch with him, nor can he have any lifelines as he already got fired from his other job with an even bigger microscope on him. He's also done poorly in the ratings compared to his predecessors (How can you not out-rate Curtis Sliwa and his Comrade sidekick?) and his replacements have done better at WFAN. If anything this guy is given far too much credit. Sure he's charitable but he's also a racist. Also who listens to him now? Trying to hear an ex-Junkie with a CT residence wearing a cowboy hat can only go so far.

  16. It's too bad that this story won't conveniently overshadow the resolution of the "Crystal Gail Magnum false rape accusation" case...hard to think that there wasn't a connection between orgiastic media build-up of the Imus controversy amidst the lesser-publicized of the Duke lacrosse players...shameless...and then New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine suffers serious injuries in a mad dash en route to the ever-important Imus-Rutgers "summit"...

What is the media going to use Imus to cover-up this time? The coronation of Barack Obama? Not likely...

  17. I think Lisa Lampanelli is more offensive. i don't here any asians or latinos complaining about Imus. Don Imus is an idiot. But those who take him seriously anyway is more stupid. And the majority of them happened to be african americans. Irony....
