TBL broke a story yesterday on the new Sports Center teams and today it appears that the rumored teams are as follows below. Here's a look at who's with who for the new Sports Center format starting August 11th....
6-9 am: John Buccigross, Steve BerthiaumeThe Storm-Elliott team was confirmed by USA Today and word on the street is that the rest of that list is correct as well. If we're breaking down the teams they actually look pretty good. I'm rather upset about Buccigross and Van Pelt splitting up, but that move could be like a teacher splitting up disruptive students in a classroom. I've never really been a Hannah Storm "fan", but pairing her with a good up-and-comer like Elliott is also a good move.
9 am-12 pm: Hannah Storm, Josh Elliott
12-3 pm: Chris McKendry, Robert Flores
6 pm: Jay Harris, Brian Kenny
11 pm: Stuart Scott, Scott Van Pelt, Neil Everett, Linda Cohn
1 am: John Anderson, Steve Levy
Hopefully this new format will allow newer stories to be brought into the coverage throughout the day (rather than just repeating the 6AM showing), and if they only got rid of the 4:30-5:30 hour....I could probably watch all day.
ESPN Juggles It’s Sportscenter Lineup (TBL)
With so many Sportscenter's I have an idea: Why not have a whole channel of sportscenter 24hrs a day!!
ReplyDeleteOh wait...
Ok better Idea, kill the crap from 9am until 6pm and show actual sports! *gasp* Show a replay at 9am of the game of the night from last, THE FULL GAME, then at noon or 1 show some obscure but interesting things. Like an Olympic sport during a non-Olympic year, an NCAA game from a non-money sport, Outdoor games. But show sports! Don't become like MTV, don't forget you are a sports network, not a news, gossip, talk, reality network.

Phillip- you just described ESPN from 1982. Aussie Rules Football, anyone?
ReplyDeleteDon't forget about Scholastic Sports America - Chris Fowler has some free time from Jan.-Aug.
ReplyDeleteJohn Anderson at 1 in the morning? that suckkkks...he's one of my favorite
ReplyDeleteDoes that much change in the world of sports to warrant running Sportscenter nearly around the clock? Me thinks not. I'm with Phillip, show actual sports. Replay the previous nights games or something.
ReplyDelete*reprint of my comment from TBL's post*
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean we will no longer be subjected to Berthiaume’s horrible Tony Montana impression and that insidious “Fill thine horn with oil…and go” on BBTN?
@bruce:
ReplyDeleteThe only thing worse than Perfume's "signature lines" is that he stole both of them (Eisen, Van Pelt).
No matter what these comments say anything is better than non stop SC repeats all day. The lineups look good, and I give the WWL credit (gasp!) for trying something different when it would've been easier (and cheaper) to stick with the status quo.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Josh Elliot is probably the best they've got right now, up and coming or not. More of him and less of the screaming windbags would really improve the network.
robert flores with mckendry is a slap in the face to flores. he should be with anderson.
ReplyDeleteBRING BACK LARRY BIEL!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere's Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann??
ReplyDeleteScrew it, bring back George Grande and Sharon Smith!
ReplyDeletehey,
ReplyDeleteI was listening to Matthew Berry's Fantasy Focus podcast last week and he mentions Awful Announcing in it.
He says it is one of the blogs that he views everyday and he thinks the commenters are very insightful and hilarious. I think it was from 5/30 or from monday.
AA's on to something, sweetbob. Like he posted yesterday about ESPN & blog mentions, recently Sportscenter got the McShay-Kiper switched hairdos from The Sports Hernia, Tony Reali with the shoutout to The Big Lead at the start of Tuesday's Around The Horn, and now that podcast.
ReplyDelete/hides under desk as the sky begins to fall
Jay Harris and Brian Kenny are awful.
ReplyDeleteThey are about the only team I get to see regularly and I am all the worse for it.
Anderson has been doing the 1 almost exclusively for years, so no change there.
ReplyDeleteVan Pelt has been paired with Everett exclusively for almost as long - not Buccigross.
Looks like I'll never be watching the 11 p.m. sportscenter again.
ReplyDeleteI spend so much of my time trying to avoid Stuart Scott appearing on my television.
Thank you, Phil! But I must admit that the possibility of your idea happening is just north of zero. ESPN has made the decision to focus on speculation for so much of its broadcast day, even if it's pointless (example: the Ramirez-Youkilis fight, the reasons for which both sides will take with them to their graves).
ReplyDeleteAs for the actual broadcast teams, I don't care too much for them as I have switched away to FSN Final Score from ESPN. I will say this: hope Anderson and Levy love L.A., because that's where they could be going.
I cannot stand Josh Elliot. Glad i will be at work when he is at home.
ReplyDeleteAnd i'm glad we get Andersen and Leavy out here on the west coast for our "late night" team
