Tiger Woods made news the other day when he said questioned if people watch Hockey anymore. The tongue in cheek comment upset a ton of Hockey fans and the one to respond is none other than NBC's Mike Milbury. He was on TSN in Canada on Tuesday and this message for the golfer. From the Globe and Mail via Fanhouse....
"You know what? I'm gonna change the name now. It's gonna be Tiger Wuss. Here's a guy that took about three months to get over a simple arthroscopic surgery. You look at [Pens forward] Ryan Malone. His face exploded with a slap shot last night - he's back out in 10 minutes!Very cute. It's great that a Sport has so many diehard fans, but good lord Hockey afficianados are defensive, but this more than likely got the point across. I'm pretty sure we're not going to hear a response from the media darling Woods after this blowup.
"Keep your yap shut, Tiger, or I'll send a couple of wingers down there - [Pens forward] Gary Roberts - to tidy you up a little bit, meat head."
Milbury: Tiger Woods is a "Wuss" and a "Meat Head" (Fanhouse)

ReplyDeleteThis happens a lot to Michigan women as well.
Why in the hell is a hockey guy calling a golfer a meathead?
ReplyDeleteThe only people who bash hockey are those that don't watch it and don't know anything about it. I'm being to like Mike Milbury more and more. First he called the Capitals "the Crapitals" (sorry Washington fans, but I'm a Flyers fan) and now the rant on Tiger Wuss, I mean Woods.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job by Mike Milbury, calling out Tiger Woods. Most people are scared to say anything bad about the big stars and it is so refreshing to see Woods called out for his stupid comments about hockey. I haven't had a favorable opinion about Milbury since he ruined the Islanders for all those years, but I have enjoyed his work on NBC this year. The Tiger Wuss comment was hilarious and he makes a good point on how it took so long for Tiger to come back from surgery.
ReplyDeleteA great mind once said golf is game athletes play in the off-season. Too bad that guy's handle would get me in trouble for typing it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tiger can one-punch Milbury like Kevin Dineen used to.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Tiger was 'bashing' Tiger per se, but simply stating the truth: nobody does watch hockey anymore.
ReplyDeleteAnd who is this clown threatening Tiger? Doesn't he know Tiger has more money than god and could have whoever he wants end this guy's walking career?
Talk about a meathead!
I would be celebrating the Red Wings winning the cup, but I haven't been able to find hockey on TV in the past 4 years. Shame...
ReplyDeleteTIGER WHO ? I'LL WATCH THE WINGS ANYDAY-TOO BAD GOLFERS ARE OVERPAID ATHLETES-HOPE HE DOESN'T HURT HIS KNEE WALKING TO THE NEXT HOLE-YZERMAN GOT A DONOR PART IN HIS KNEE AND STILL PLAYED GREAT HOCKEY-THOSE WHO CAN'T PLAY HOCKEY SHOULDN'T CRITICIZE!!!!
ReplyDeleteLet's try an intelligent discussion, instead. Golf is a finesse sport, where injuries can upset the delicate balance of a swing and send a ball 40 yards out of the fairway (which Tiger does a bit of anyway). It's not just the pain, it's how an injury can affect an extremely skilled golfer. Has Mike ever tried golfing? Has he ever broken 100, even?
ReplyDeleteMike has never possessed a phenomenal skill, so he might not understand how an injury could upset the balance of a finely tuned athletic machine like Tiger. He was an average defenseman best known for beating up a fan with his own shoe (and ruining the Islanders). Other hockey players have required finesse and skill, but Mike didn't.
By the way, Mike, Tiger was off for less than two months, not three, and he won his first tournament back. Maybe you missed it, since it wasn't on OLN.
Double stress fracture + ACL surgery + Tiger winning US Open anyway = Mike Milbury is an idiot.
ReplyDeletegolf isn't a sport, it's what real athletes do to relax in the offseason. and no one watches hockey anymore, coming from someone who plays golf? Just because all the 80 year olds in the nursing homes fell asleep with golf on the tv doesn't mean they are actually watching it
ReplyDeleteI love the competitive motivation that everyone has to make it to the big leagues. But hey, have in mind that in the big leagues there is always going to be sh*t talking and no matter what, you have to me man enough to handle it, cuz if you sense one bit of fear then snap back out of it because if your in it and its bad, it might be just too late to get out.
