Sidney Crosby's Agent Now Has An Issue With CBC

I passed along a story last week that Canadians were upset with the apparent Sidney Crosby shunning that was taking place during the Stanley Cup Finals and apparently Crosby's management has contacted the network about it. Via Globe and Mail....
At the conclusion of the deciding game of the Stanley Cup final on Wednesday, Sidney Crosby's agent, Pat Brisson, huddled with Scott Moore, the head of CBC Sports, at Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena.

The subject was Hockey Night in Canada's coverage or — from the point of view of Brisson and others — the peculiar coverage of Crosby in the NHL final series.

The Pittsburgh Penguins' 20-year-old captain was largely ignored by Hockey Night host Ron MacLean and commentator Don Cherry, although MacLean did report on Wednesday before Game 6 that Crosby was the leading scorer of the playoffs. And Cherry aired a piece on Coach's Corner, the thrust of which was referees were allowing Crosby to be fouled because he was known as a diver in his rookie season.

Apparently, the conversation between Brisson and Moore was amicable, but inconclusive.
I'm not really versed in things Canadian but it's really amazing that one of Canada's own would be ignored or boycotted because of something that happened when he was in Junior Hockey. Don Cherry is seriously good at holding grudges.

CBC should examine Cherry-picking coverage (Globe and Mail)

  1. Considering Grapes would never shut his hole about Dougy Gilmour, I'd say it's peculiar.

"You kids out there, watch how DOugy does it, watch it!"

  3. The only time that I would agree that he was shunned was after Game 3. Every other game I thought they gave him the attention he deserved. Hell after game 4 they were praising him left and right, saying things along the line that he's by far their best player and they need to have him on the ice far more than he was.

    So... yea.

  5. Maybe Don feels that by not mentioning Sid, he's balancing out the insane amount of overhype that the rest of the Canadian media heap on "the Kid."

  6. HNIC made a point of avoiding the fawning over Crosby exhibited by NBC, and I applaud them for it. Don Cherry, who was never a fan of Peter Forsberg's antics, has rightly held Sidney Crosby to the same standard - whether or not you agree with the standard itself is another issue.

  7. Cherry admitted this week that Ovechkin is the best player in hockey. Which for Don, is like admitting Hillary Clinton is hotter than Megan Fox.

  8. "Don Cherry is seriously good at holding grudges"

hence the nickname 'Grapes' as in sour.

  9. why does Cherry not like Crosby?

I looked at Crosby's wikipedia page but only saw something that would cause Crosby to hold a grudge.

  10. Yeah, because it's truly important to fully acknowledge the rare Canadian on any pro hockey team.

  11. Crosby was not the story for the Penguins. MAF was. Crosby may have been the leading scorer in the playoffs but he was a boy among men at some points. Crosby stunk against the Redwings. He was not padding his stats against the Flyers or Rangers anymore.
