One of my goals in life is to get an honorary degree from some fine institution. I have no idea what it means to get one, or what it's worth, but it sounds so cool. Benjamin Franklin has one from Oxford, Hunter S. Thompson has one from Universal Life Church, and even Kermit the Frog has one from Long Island University. Well now you can add Baseball analyst Joe Leonard Morgan to the list....excuse me....Dr. Joe Morgan.
The baseball Hall of Famer and two-time NL Most Valuable Player received an honorary doctorate of humane letters Saturday from California State University, East Bay—the school where the Bay Area native earned his bachelor's degree after his 22-year playing career ended.I'm sure this is a high honor and all, but Morgan should really start to take some of his own advice. Continue that education Joe! Learn more about the players of today's game and about team strategy. Try to understand that Yankees aren't always good just because of Jeter but sometime it's in spite of him. I know it's tough when you think you know everything, but you really can't ever know everything. So let's improve the quality of your Baseball life.
Morgan, now an Emmy-winning broadcaster for ESPN, told graduates of the university's college of business and economics that he values the importance of education.
"I've always felt that the quality of your life is directly related to the quality of your education," said Morgan, who earned his bachelor's degree in 1990. "If you continue your education, I believe you'll continue to improve the quality of your life."
