Just a day after I believed the Wolves had narrowed their search to former Indiana GM David Kahn, Glen Taylor and Rob Moor apparently continue it anew with a candidate in town this week.Michael Rand, also of the Tribune, said that the Timberwolves are reporting that the 15K number is actually only 1.5K, but there's definitely an interest from fans. I always thought Simmons would make a great GM, as long as he didn't overdo it with the transactions. And hell, they really couldn't do any worse, could they?
I heard it was a candidate from within the Northwest division, possibly Portland assistant GM Tom Penn, the Blazers’ salary-capologist.
The first guy I thought of was Rex Chapman in Denver, who was with the organization for a brief time about three years ago. But it’s probably not him because he was at Nuggets practice today and I’m guessing the guy was in town today.
Sorry, but I don’t think it’s Bill Simmons, either.
Under the Big Top: And the search goes on…looking west (again) to Portland? (Star Tribune)
Referring to Minnesota as a city a couple times likely didn't help the cause.
ReplyDeleteBS knows hoops, but I don't think there is any doubt that Taylor will go in another direction. Whether it's Simmons or another GM, replacing Kevin Ollie at the point should probably be a priority.
I think he would do a great job, but he probably will never get a chance. It seems very unlikely that a club would hand the keys over to a member of the media who has never played or worked for an NBA team. 20 or 30 years ago, this probably wouldn't be as far-fetched as it is today.
ReplyDeleteSimmons would evaluate players based on the style of their high-fives, and on the way they walk from the huddle from the court. He's also a racist which probably doesn't bode well for running a basketball team. Please do it Minnesota, I want to see this Isiah-sized disaster and Bill Simmons ego' reined in so the rest of the world can breathe again.
ReplyDeleteSimmons is a racist? Huh, that's news to me.
ReplyDeleteFor the Wolves sake, at least it would make them a story.
He's also a racist which probably doesn't bode well for running a basketball team.
ReplyDeleteI remember him saying that he'd build around Jefferson, Love, Brewer, Foye, 2009 No. 1 pick.
Hmmmm
Simmons is a complete douche and when it comes down to it, doesn't know a damn thing about running a basketball team.
ReplyDeleteWhat GM from another team would actually want to deal with this clown?
He tried this with the Bucks a few years ago as well.
Simmons just loves himself and it is all for attention.
Wow, 1500 emails! Hahahaha, who cares? That's such an insignificant amount. Do you know little effort it takes to email someone?
ReplyDeleteI highly doubt that a sportswriter who has never played organized basketball above the high school level, has never dealt with pro athletes in a professional setting and has never event been in charge of anything would make a good GM. In fact, that would make him one of the least qualified GM candidates in history.
you think Simmons would make a great GM? ok AA.
