John Sterling: Screwing Up Homerun Calls Since 1989
I am overjoyed to point everyone to a new website completely devoted to the wonders of Yankee announcer, John Sterling, as well as share this video of a recent Sterling call. Most know about Sterling's catchphrase when Alex Rodriguez hits a homer ("It's an A-Bomb, From A-Rod!"), but apparently Sterling himself forgets when he should and shouldn't use it....
That's just wrong on so many levels. Heck, he should have just turned it into "an H-Bomb from Hideki", and gone completely of the politically correct plank. Too funny.
I think I speak for everyone here when we say, "OOPS!!!" I don't think he meant any harm there. It was an honest mistake. He realized it almost right away. He should not be punished at all, just reminded of what he said.
Was this from a recent game? Because I swear to [insert deity] that he's done that before, possibly after A-Rod hitting a home run off an opposing Japanese pitcher.
Then there was the time a few years back when the Twins led the Yankees 1-0 in the ALDS. Sterling was interviewing Torii Hunter before Game 2 and closed with "See you Saturday." Only problem: Saturday was Game 4, which was still in the "if necessary" category.

ReplyDeleteAs a Yankees fan, I hate this asshole. He's simply DAMON-IC.
