Clyde Drexler Can Expect A Call From PETA, Any Day Now
Wednesday, February 04, 2009
One of my favorite things to witness/hear, is when an announcer starts heading down a path that he shouldn't, and just plows ahead anyway. It's usually a classic case of "foot in mouth disease", but occasionally it can be much much more. Like take for example Houston analyst, Clyde Drexler. The "Glyde" was trying to explain how much of a mismatch Rockets' big man Yao Ming had over a defending Andres Nocioni, but went with just about the worst analogy you could think of. What is it you ask?
Clubbing baby seals. Via Clutch Fans....
"And Yao takes it to the middle, and hooks it up and in. Boy just keep going to that."- Bill Worrell
"That's like clubbing baby seals. There's nothing Nocioni can do."- Clyde Drexler
"Oh wow. Give me a better picture than that."- Bill Worrell
"Well he's helpless basically."- Clyde Drexler
Yeah Clyde....we get it. Good lord that was a bad choice of words.

Teams: Houston Rockets vs. Detroit Pistons
Location: The Palace at Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI
Start Time: 6:30 PM EST
Announcers and Network: Dan Shulman and Doris Burke, ESPN
Detroit is an interesting study because it's clear that the Allen Iverson Experiment isn't quite meshing the way they would like, and Houston is seeing its best production out of Yao Ming while dealing with Tracy McGrady's status as this generation's Grant Hill. I personally have a soft spot for Doris Burke as a color commentator, she never tries to talk over the action too much.

Brandon Roy Is A Golden God
Friday, November 07, 2008

So what did you miss while going to bed early last night? Just a ridiculous finish in the Portland-Houston game that included a three-point play by Yao to put the Rockets up one followed by a ridiculous Brandon Roy three to win it with .08 left on the clock. And that was just in overtime. Let's go to the videotape!
YES! God you gotta love Marv Albert, even though he was about 20 seconds slow on the Yao Ming foul call. I can't emphasize enough how fun the Blazers are to watch. I know I'm about the 100,000th person on the bandwagon, but I'm officially on checked in.
