Inside The Numbers: Monday Night Football Taking It To Network Television

Thursday, September 20, 2007

In the essence of fair and balanced reporting I wanted to pass along this set of ratings for Monday Night Football. While ratings are down from last year after two weeks, MNF is destroyed every other show on television during the three games they've aired this year. An average of 8+ million (9.1 Rating) people watched the Redskins-Eagles game making it the second most watched show on cable for the year (High School Musical #1), and the number one (cable or network television) for the night.

Even more impressive than that is that ESPN's three Monday Night telecasts have finished first on their respective nights (cable or network television), and they also rank second, third, and fifth in overall ratings for the year. To beat out network television when just over half the Country has cable is a pretty big deal.

With that said......There's going to be a HUGE drop in numbers next week as Men everywhere lose their right to the remote when Dancing With The Stars, The Bachelor, Heroes, and Two And A Half Men all start back up. If they start beating those shows routinely then I'll be REALLY impressed.

That's the one true advantage SNIFNIA has over MNF....there's nothing on TV to compete with NBC. Desperate Housewives just isn't pulling the way it was, and NBC even beat the Emmys last Sunday in the Ratings. Allbeit the Primetime Emmys, which no one cares about, but they're still the Emmys.
