Texas Wins An NCAA Playoff Semifinal Game! Unimportant Fiesta Bowl
Monday, January 05, 2009
Well at least the last few minutes were exciting. In fact, I decided to avoid the first three quarters altogether (mainly because the bands were already driving me crazy before the game even started), and just take in these final few moments.
Ohio State scored to take the lead, with two minutes to go, on a nice run by Daniel Herron, but with OSU's recent history in Bowl Games....you just knew they left too much time on the clock....
That was Senior Quan Cosby, and that my friends is a fifth straight Bowl victory for the Longhorns, and a fourth straight BCS loss for the Buckeyes. I almost feel bad for Ohio tonight....I said almost.

Texas Tech Stuns Texas
Sunday, November 02, 2008
The game really should have never been this close, but a great job by Colt McCoy to give Texas their first lead of the game with about 1:30 left, gave us one of the best finishes of the year. Here's your ending....
Those dumbass Raider fans tried to ruin it there at the end by giving Texas a kickoff from the seven yard line, but alas....it just wasn't meant to be for the Longhorns this year. I really hope Texas Tech makes a huge jump in the polls because the thought of an Alabama-Penn State Championship makes me sick to my stomach. Go Raiders!

Lou Holtz Goes Off On Colt McCoy During Late Night Segment
Monday, October 13, 2008
I was going to make the title "Lou Holtz Temporarily Loses His Mind", but I'm pretty sure it's officially gone at this point. Holtz was doing the late night College Football show with Rece Davis and Mark May late Saturday night/early Sunday, when they decided to have a little debate. Holtz had Tim Tebow, May had Texas QB Colt McCoy and Davis was moderator. Watch as Lou, who thinks they've gone to commercial, flips out after Davis gave the win to May following the debate. Via CFT...
That was just amazingly awkward and somehow still hilarious! The guy never ceases to amaze me. I think I'm going to coin a new term in this spot and that is the "Trainwreckability Scale" (which has no affiliation with Simmons' "Unintentional Comedy Scale"). Right now Lou Holtz's trainwreckabiltiy is sitting at an easy 95 out of 100. After his pep talk this week, he could shoot past 100.
Oh and the other thing is.....he was right. Colt McCoy was not a great QB last year and there were no stipulations about the debate being just for this year or just for one game.

Gameday Staying In Texas

So instead of heading back into SEC territory for Week Eight of the College Football season, ESPN's College Gameday is staying in the same State as this past weekend. The crew will be making the three hour trek south, from Dallas to Austin, TX, and will on hand for the UT-Mizzou game this Saturday. Via the Statesman....
ESPN’s “College GameDay” should just change its name to the “Texas Longhorn Report.” For the second consecutive week, the ESPN pregame show will air from a Longhorns game. There were a few other choices (OSU-MSU, Vandy-UGA), but in the end it was either following Oklahoma back home to play Kansas, or the game they picked. Seems like the right call even though Mizzou lost last week to Oklahoma State.
“GameDay” will broadcast Saturday morning from the Forty Acres, hours before the primetime ABC clash between Texas and Missouri. The show always draws thousands of clever-sign-waving fans to see Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso and Chris Fowler do their thing (even though those attending can’t really see those guys do much of anything).
No announcement on the location for the set has been made yet (the Myers Stadium soccer field has been used in the past). But ESPN’s CollegeGameDay.com Web site makes it clear that it’ll be in Austin one week after originating from Dallas.

Dr. Lou Hints At A Return Of The "Pep Talks"
Friday, October 10, 2008
I cannot emphasize how funny this clip is. The big news is obviously that Holtz says he'll be doing a pep talk next week, hence the title above, but he also takes the time to send some trash talk in the direction of Longhorn Fans. Pay attention around the :55 mark....
"All of those orange fans up there. I would say to our players, they wear orange so they can cheer for their team. They'll wear the same orange outfit tomorrow to go hunting. And they'll wear the same orange outfit the last five days of the week in order to pick up trash."- Lou Holtz
I don't know if he came up with that on his own, but that's just about the funniest thing I've heard. Can't wait for the pep talk, and remember people you have the power to choose. The power....IS YOURS!

Gameday Heading To The Cotton Bowl For Texas-Oklahoma
Monday, October 06, 2008

This trip is the one that we all predicted would happen. With both the Longhorns and Sooners undefeated, and with the game being on ABC, ESPN will take it's Gameday crew from Nashville, TN to Dallas this Saturday. Via the Oxford Press....
The Longhorns took care of Colorado 38-14 and Oklahoma took care of Baylor 49-17 on Saturday, and seconds after each victory, the respective fan bases had moved on.I don't know what it was about last week, but none of the games on the schedule were really that appealing. This week as a whole isn't better, but with TEX-OK, OKST-MIZZOU and LSU-FLA, at least we have three top tier matchups throughout the day. The Red River Rivalry should be a good one this year, and it kicks off right at noon this Saturday.
That's because No. 1 and undefeated Oklahoma (5-0, 1-0 Big 12) and No. 5 and undefeated Texas (5-0, 1-0) are meeting in Dallas on Saturday for the 103rd Red River Rivalry. This one promises to be one of the biggest Oklahoma-Texas showdowns ever, and not just because there will be 92,100 fans packed into the Cotton Bowl, almost twice the 46,200 the stadium seated when it first opened:
It's the first time since 2004 that both teams enter the game ranked in the top five.
That's exactly why ESPN's "College GameDay" will be camped outside the Cotton Bowl.

Terence Newman Is Not A Big Fan Of Roller Coasters
Thursday, September 04, 2008
Listen, I'm not the biggest fan of heights myself, but when a thirty second long, 50-foot roller coaster has you screaming at the top of your lungs....I don't know what to tell you. From the Dallas Morning News via With Leather....
You learn something knew everyday. Not only is Newman afraid of heights, but the Baby Jesus weighed (weighs?) 8lbs and 6ozs. Actually come to think of it, Newman was at a Six Flags, right? That was actually a very, very bad idea getting on that coaster my friend. You got lucky this time, but next time remember that The Snyder is everywhere!

Texas Radio Hosts Mock KC Royal Alex Gordon's Wife
Tuesday, April 29, 2008

I can never get enough stories about athletes going after members of the media. Clubhouse rants like Hal McCrae's and Bobby Bonilla's provide years and years of enjoyment. Well there's now news out of Kansas City that we might be able KC Third Baseman Alex Gordon to the list soon. From the KC Star via Ben Maller....
The seemingly harmless interview took a nasty turn when Jamie [Gordon's wife- Ed Note] was asked whether she knew who Yoko Ono was. When she said she did not, someone back in the booth or at the station hit a “drop” button that spewed the words “stupid b....” over the air. The same drop button was hit again moments later after Jamie answered another question. That's pretty weak on the part of Dallas sports-talk station KTCK to not apologize directly, but I guess if you're in the business of being a Sports shock jock, you probably don't apologize often. Also, Alex Gordon is 6'1"/220lbs.....I don't know if I would mess with him.
Then later in the interview, one of the show’s hosts made crude innuendos about Jamie and Ashley, urging his interviewer to “try and get them to kiss."
Royals upper management got wind of the interview and was furious, as was Gordon. Royals vice president of communications Mike Swanson demanded an apology from the station and the hosts.
“Having to play the interview for Alex was not an enviable task,” Swanson said. “Then one of the show’s hosts told me he wouldn’t apologize directly to Alex because that was my job as a liaison. That really got me upset.”

Holly Rowe Is A Team Player
Tuesday, February 19, 2008

How about this for random. Apparently Holly Rowe was at Texas Longhorns shoot around yesterday when she was recruited by DJ Augustin to be her personal rebounder....
Barnes saw the proper defensive technique in almost all but the first two possessions of the second half and has given his team "an A or A-plus" on its defensive report card lately.Great job Holly! Way to get in there and participate. Oh and if Texas gets a #1 seed, bank on them being out of the tourney by the 2nd round (it's not as if that's different than any other year).
Add that kind of defense to a suddenly resurgent D.J. Augustin, who showed up at the gym at 11 a.m. Monday to take 300 shots with ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe as his chief rebounder. "I missed a couple," Augustin teased before his killer, 27-point game Monday night.
When it comes to the criteria for a top NCAA seed, Texas isn't missing much.

The Longhorns Crank Dat Soulja Boy!
Thursday, September 27, 2007
Timeouts in College Football are intense. There are coaches yelling, previous plays being analyzed, and......umm.......dance routines? Guess so. Hey when you're the Longhorns and you're playing Central Florida (and you don't care about covering the spread a**holes!) you mind as well break it on down.
Now Watch Me Doooooo........Crank Dat Soulja Boy! Try to get that out of your heads the rest of the day.

Desmond Doesn't Do His Homework
Thursday, December 21, 2006
I got this email from John V. yesterday, and it hurt me to the core. Desmond Howard is our favorite college player ever. Hands down. So you can understand why I was hesitant to post it.....um, that was until I found the video.
From John V: Last night, before the game, they asked the studio guys to pick the pre-New Year's game they were most looking forward to. Desmond Howard selects the Holiday Bowl, and how much he is looking forward to the Cal/Texas game. He then launches into an analysis of how Colt McCoy will fare against the Cal defense. That's all well and good, except for the fact that Cal is playing Texas A&M. None of the other guys in the studio bothered to correct him.
Desmond Howard has been consistently horrible, but this takes it to a new low.
Why Desmond!?!?!?!?! WHY!!!!!!!?????? No, you can't be an Awful Announcer! I refuse to accept it. This never happened.
Update: Apparently I'm slow.....The 12th Manchild already has Howard's Apology from the Bud Hot Seat. I guess it's an apology....Howard says he "mis-spoke" when saying Texas instead of Texas A&M.
Pay no mind that you even brought up Texas QB Colt McCoy, Desi. You just mis-spoke....that's all you did....let's forget this ever happened. Right? Right. Just in case.......everyone please look at this pen.
