The American Mustache Institue Speaks Out In Regards To Giambi's Shaving

Tuesday, August 05, 2008

I mentioned back in July that Dr. Aaron Perlut was by far the best ESPN First Take guest in the history of the show. Well with the upsetting news that Giambi had nixed the 'stache yesterday, Dr. Perlut came back on the ESPN morning show today to read a statement on the missing "lip fur"....

Not nearly as funny as the first appearance, but pretty entertaining. The Sal Fasano mention was unexpected and the use of the term "lip sweater" is definitely now going to be in my vocabulary. Good stuff, but the 'stache angle is definitely dead now.

You Know Where You Can Put Your Shift, A**hole?

Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Hilarious find by Sports Crack today. Jason Giambi was batting in the bottom of the sixth inning against the O's last night when Brian Roberts decided to change up the standard shift on the lefty. Instead of standing in the deep infield and moving toward first, B-Rob decided to play almost all the way in the outfield (ala a short fielder in Softball). It almost worked too, but the first baseman's shot made it just past him.

The best part though by far was Giambi's reaction after the fact. He seemed none too pleased with the inventive Roberts. Watch as he rounds the base....

Sorry for the quality there, but it was the best I could get. The photo below via SC might give you a better look....

Apparently it was all in fun, but Giambi definitely looks a bit pissed off there for a moment. You know what it is? It's the 'stache. You can never tell if someone with one is smiling or not. Either way though....hilarious.

ESPN First Take's Best Guest Ever: Dr. Aaron Perlut

Thursday, July 10, 2008

So I was sitting here thinking how sick I am of this mustache talk and praying that Giambi doesn't get voted into the All Star Game when First Take decided to bring it up yet again. Well they added an interesting twist on the 'stache by inviting on the Executive Director of the American Mustache Institute, Aaron Perlut....

The Chinese Panda?! Hilarious. I would say that's enough of the 'stache talk but I wouldn't want to upset the good Doctor. Hopefully Giambi gets in now and this guy gets to show up on the red carpet for the All Star pregame show.

These are also the type of guests First Take needs more often. I want to see this guy arguing with Skip Bayless, not Rob Parker or Nelly (seriously....he's a guest on the show next Monday).

The 11pm Sports Center Has Fun With Giambi's 'Stache

Wednesday, July 09, 2008

The 11pm Sports Center has been relatively tame as of late (I blame Stu Scott), but with Van Pelt and Neil Everett back together anything can happen. For example, spending the last ten minutes of the show in fake mustaches...

Good times. And Scott, I'm fully expecting you to grow one for real and sport that thing for at least a month. Oh and "Lip Fur" just makes me cringe for some reason....can we not use that term anymore?

The Scripps National Spelling Bee finally ended late Friday night after hours and hours of words I had never heard of......well besides Travis Diener. The kid's name is Sameer Mishra from Lafayette, Indiana and the word was Guerdon. And are you ready for this? He was the same kid that had to spell Diener earlier in the day! How about that for closure?

guer·don (noun)-
[Middle English, from Old French, from Medieval Latin widerdnum, alteration (influenced by Latin dnum, gift) of Old High German widarln : widar, back, against; see wi- in Indo-European roots + ln, reward; see lau- in Indo-European roots.]

Good stuff Sameer, but I was more mesmerized by the second place finisher's mustache. Seriously, try and tell me this kid is 12 years old.....

I call shenanigans. What in the name of Danny Almonte is up with that 'stache!
