The MLB Network Gets All Cursy For A Night
Wednesday, March 04, 2009
Matt Vasgersian is a longtime AA favorite, and while some of you don't like him as nearly as much as I do, I think this clip might sway you a bit. There was apparently an editing problem during a segment on Manny Ramirez, and thanks to this random guy's television, we have a clip of a great Vasgersian F-Bomb....
I appreciate the clip, but can we seriously get rid of the captions on the Youtube videos? Thanks. Other than that, not every network is perfect and I personally enjoy a good f-bomb from time to time.
(Thanks to EJ from NESW's for the clip)

Of Matt Stairs' Quotes And Phillies' F-Bombs
Tuesday, October 14, 2008
I had a few people ask me if I caught the F-bomb following the Phils win on FOX last night. Of course I did, but I didn't really have anything to pair with until now. That video is at the bottom but the MLB quote of the year comes from Matt Stairs via The Fightins....
“When you get that nice celebration coming into the dugout and you’re getting your ass hammered by guys — there’s no better feeling than to have that done.”- Matt Stairs
Well then! And about that F-bomb?
Yeah....they're just a little bit fired up after that win. Good times!

ESPN Airs A Visible F-Bomb During Steve's Live Sports Center Spot Today
Thursday, August 07, 2008
You just knew something like this was going to happen at some point. I missed the video, but thanks to multiple sleuths around the Internets we have the photographic evidence. Steve was doing a live commercial right before the 8am Sports Center when the camera panned to a dry erase board that displayed the lovely f-word in all its weirdly written glory....
I'm desperately searching for the video at the moment (damn me for recording Mike and Mike in the morning....what am I thinking?), but as soon as it's found I'll put it up. Too funny. Whoever wrote that must have been hella bored and for Steve's sake, I hope that number isn't his ATM pin. According to Deadspin, ESPN has acknowledged the situation and apparently isn't happy. I'm thinking that they're going to get a ton of press online from this today, so it's not as bad as they think.
Also, this would be a good time to remind you that I'll have a running live-blog of the SC Live debut this Monday starting at 9am. There also might be a few surprises earlier than that as well, so it should be extra fun.

You Know Where You Can Put Your Shift, A**hole?
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
Hilarious find by Sports Crack today. Jason Giambi was batting in the bottom of the sixth inning against the O's last night when Brian Roberts decided to change up the standard shift on the lefty. Instead of standing in the deep infield and moving toward first, B-Rob decided to play almost all the way in the outfield (ala a short fielder in Softball). It almost worked too, but the first baseman's shot made it just past him.
The best part though by far was Giambi's reaction after the fact. He seemed none too pleased with the inventive Roberts. Watch as he rounds the base....
Sorry for the quality there, but it was the best I could get. The photo below via SC might give you a better look....

Apparently it was all in fun, but Giambi definitely looks a bit pissed off there for a moment. You know what it is? It's the 'stache. You can never tell if someone with one is smiling or not. Either way though....hilarious.

Chase Utley Does Not Appreciate Your Boos
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
I guess we're in emptying the video box mode, but this one is still worth a spot this morning. Here's Chase Utley being introduced by Chris Berman to a chorus of boos. Watch the reaction....
There must have been a lot of Mets fans on hand last night. The even funnier thing is that ESPN bleeped curses out the whole rest of the night when batters miss hit balls. I guess the first one always gets by.

The LPGA Is F'ing Awesome!
Monday, June 23, 2008
Leave it to a reader watching women's golf during a crappy Sports weekend to find this clip for me to post. Reader Mike caught this awesome f-bomb after Eun-Hee Ji won the Wegmans LPGA Tournament yesterday....
Umm....so many questions. Since when do they have bottles of the Moet on hand following a Golf Tournament? Is this a common practice? Who are the other three women on the green? Is the LPGA normally this hot and/or intense? I know what a phenom is but what the hell is a FEEEE-NOMMM?!
It's sad that I'll never watch an LPGA event long enough to find out, but if anyone knows please pass along the information.
(P.S.- Notice that I didn't go with the easy angle of multiple Asian women pouring champagne on each other. Apparently there's a movement we have to adhere to these days.)

SI Catches Up With ABC Camerman Who Got F-Bombed By Sheed
Tuesday, June 03, 2008
I'm a huge fan of Richard Deitsch's Media Power Rankings column, but the latest one had an added bonus. Deitsch actually tracked down the cameraman who received the brunt of Rasheed Wallace's frustration during Game Six the other night.
You don't often read about cameramen in media columns, but at arenas and stadiums across the country, the men and women who perform the job bring memorable shots to the public. Bovee, 36, has worked as a freelance cameraman for a decade and lives with his wife, Alissa, and daughter, Emma, 2, in Allen Park, a suburb outside of Detroit. He shoots the Pistons, Tigers, and Red Wings (he's working Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals for NBC) among other assignments.
"I've had some players be rude to me in the huddle before, but I've never had one throw anything at me," said [Kevin] Bovee, laughing. "That was memorable. He threw the towel at the camera and it covered the lens. It was actually a pretty nice shot. He did me a favor."
Good stuff and he's right. That was an amazing shot and I'm surprised more athletes don't get pissed when those portable cameras get all up in their face.

Rasheed Wallace Does Not Enjoy Your Cameras ESPN
Friday, May 30, 2008
Game Six of the Eastern Conference Finals is still going on but things are getting pretty heated. There's been a few questionable calls on both ends, but Rasheed Wallace isn't particularly happy with this foul on Kevin Garnett, and subsequently ESPN's camera in his face (NSFW Language)....
"I'm not going to tell you again to get that f**king camera out my face!"
God I love Rasheed. Classic. I also like ESPN's random shot of the tunnel in the beginning.
(I'll have the end of the game video up shortly after the game as well)

YES Apologizes For Earl Weaver Clip
Thursday, May 22, 2008
Okay so we've finally got some clarification on the whole Terry Crowley thing from last night. Via Watchdog comes YES' apology...
Spokesman Eric Handler said an audio guy in the production truck pulled up a file on Staten Island's own Terry Crowley, whom the analysts had been discussing on the air, to play it for his producer to see whether it might be relevant, having no idea what was on it.That makes sense, but I'm still curious as to why you'd have a clip like that in a file to ever play. Oh well, fun times and more networks should drop in Earl Weaver clips from time to time. The guy was awesome.
Two problems:
1. It was Earl Weaver talking about Crowley during a profane diatribe taped in the 1970s and originally meant as an internal joke not intended for wide distribution.
2. The tape of Weaver was heard not only by the producer, but by everyone viewing the game.
"Obviously, we apologize," said Handler, who added the matter would be addressed internally to avoid future incidents. "As soon as the offensive language was revealed, we cut it off . . . It was an honest mistake, and we apologize."

Someone At The YES Network Has A Lot Of Explaining To Do
Wednesday, May 21, 2008
About 20 different people emailed me during the third inning of the Yankees-O's game and told me that I had to get video or audio from the YES feed during an Adam Jones at-bat. Well I've found the video and it's safe to say that someone that works for YES doesn't like O's Batting Coach Terry Crowley (to say the least).
The broadcast is going along swimmingly and the announcers were talking about Crowley and his success with the O's hitters early this season when it happens. Listen very closely at the :18 mark as someone hops on the feed and just lays into him out of nowhere (NSFW words are dropped as well)....
"Terry Crowley is lucky he's in fucking Baseball for christsakes. He was released by the Cincinnati Reds, he was release by the fucking.....(voice fades out)"
Are you kidding me?! I know all sorts of crazy stuff happens in the truck, but good lord. That guy DOES NOT like Crowley at all for some reason. If anyone has more information please email me and let me know who or what that was.
I'm thinking someone might not be asking to game three of the series.
Update: So apparently that voice you hear is of Earl Weaver from an old Manager's Corner. That explains the who, but I'd love to hear why it was played on-air.

The Detroit Lions Know About Customer Satisfaction
Monday, May 19, 2008
Amazing story from SbB via The Oakland Press (Oakland County, Michigan) today. Kevin Furlong (no relation to Edward) has been a Detroit Lions season ticket holder for quite some time, and he'd been even trying to get better seats and even more tickets as of late to no avail. He was so fed up with the ticket department that he decided email the team to cancel his seats.
Seems all well and good right? Well that was until one of the Lions' employees accidentally hit reply all on and email and a special message got back to Mr. Furlong....
When Kevin Furlong received an e-mail from an employee of the Detroit Lions ticket office, he did a double take.Wow right? The customer most certainly isn't always right and we have no idea what Kevin said to elicit this response, but that's rather telling about the Lions. What's even more telling is the response Oakland Press Reporter Pat Cuputo got when he asked the Lions about the email....
"F--- 'em until next year," it said.
It was an inadvertent transmission, meant to be sent from one Lions employee, Matt Schul, to another, Lance Powser, about Furlong's ordeal with the Lions ticket office. Furlong felt compelled to cancel six season tickets worth more than $5,000 for the 2008 season. The Lions were trying to convince him to renew.
Cast aside the graphic language and examine only the meaning, and I find these words to be telling. In my opinion, they sum up the organization's attitude in its totality.
The Lions take their support for granted.
Lions executive vice president and chief operating officer Tom Lewand vehemently disagreed with my contention there is a correlation between the tone set by Ford and Millen -- and this incident. It's one of the great mysteries in the world as to how Matt Millen is still employed in the NFL, and I'm inclined to agree with Caputo on his assessment. Hitting "reply all" is something we've all done before by accident, but that's a little much if you ask me.
"If you write that, it will be factually incorrect and bordering on slander," Lewand said. "And I will come after you."
Do I feel threatened by Lewand? No. Am I angry he said those things. No. They were said out of loyalty and emotion -- and I understand and respect that.
But it doesn't change my opinion. And I don't believe I'm exactly a club of one in this town when it comes to believing Lions leadership is inept and insensitive.

Australia Gets A Nice F-Bomb From Sky Sports
Monday, May 12, 2008
This video is from Fox Sports 3 in Australia (via SS Reporters) and it appears that channel may have cut into Sky Sports' live feed a tad too early (NSFW language)....
Everyone knows how I feel about live f-bombs, and one that goes out to an entire Country is pretty impressive. This also isn't the first time that presenter Richard Keys has been caught, so someone might want to keep the VCR running on him constantly.

Let Me Once Again Introduce You To Mr. Kettle, Ms. Jacobson
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
I think I've come to a level headed approach over the past two years working on this site. Very few things "piss me off" anymore and I do a good job of reminding myself that Sports is in the end just a game and not the end of the World (as much as they my encompass my World). Well this my friends....pisses me off.
Dana Jacobson was doing her daily duties as host of First Take and leading Detroit News' Rob Parker and Skip Bayless through their list of topics when they came to the White Sox blowup doll incident. Watch closely as Dana Jacobson steals the show away from an idiotic point from Rob Parker. Listen closely.....
Let me just write that quote out for all of you again....
"If this was something that degraded somebody racially someway or religiously in some way. Would you view this differently?"
Okay, Rob Parker's understanding of the "you are coming into our home" argument aside (come on)....are you f'ing kidding me Dana Jacobson?!?! This statement is coming from someone who went on a vodka fueled religious tirade to get a laugh out of a crowd at a roast. This also isn't the first time that she's done this either. At the end of last month she questioned Tiger Woods about cursing on the golf course.
How can ESPN continue parading these jokers out there again and again and think that people aren't paying attention? Not all of ESPN is filled with them, in fact most of the employees aren't, but it's the precious few that are making the rest of the network look so bad. Hypocrisy should really be a crime, especially in this case. Good lord.

Jon Miller Throws To Sports Center But Not Before An F-Bomb Is Dropped
Monday, April 28, 2008
You all know about my f-bomb fetish when it comes to broadcasts and you can add this one to the list. After Joe Morgan calls the Anaheim Angels the California Angels for the 40th time in the night, Jon Miller is throwing it to Sports Center. Everything seems to be going fine until an Angels player decides to drop a pretty clear f-bomb on the telecast (careful of NSFW language)....

More Awesome Cursing Caught On-Air
Monday, April 14, 2008
Last week it was ESPN airing an F-Bomb from an umpire who happened to be mic'd up (video is here if you missed it), but that was nothing compared to the tirade that Versus had yesterday. During a tense Game 3 between the Devils and Rangers a fight broke out and the refs were trying to get it under control when a mic picked up this little exchange (NSFW language).....
That's Michael Rupp of the Devils and the Rangers' Paul Mara yawing at each other and I'm pretty Rupp called Mara a "f**king bitch" and a "pussy" at multiple points during that exchange. The ESPN clip was understandable because it was just one word, and Jon Miller was absolutely begging for the clip, but you'd think a producer's ears at Versus would have perked up after the first "pussy" was thrown out there.
I mean I'm glad they didn't, but still.

Tiger Woods Is Not The Only Player Cursing On Tour
Tuesday, April 01, 2008
I absolutely love this clip. Someone sent me an email last week that I had to get coverage of the Golf Channel during the Zurich Classic of New Orleans when Bubba Watson decides to confront Steve Elkington. Well I've found it.
PGA Pro Elkington decides to walk towards the green after his shot, and Watson isn't happy with the veteran. The Golf Channel picked it all up on their mics (NSFW, cursing)....
I love the audible F-bomb under his breath and then the gasp from the announcer after he says that vets can kiss his ass. Too funny. But the fun doesn't stop there my friends. Not only did the Golf Channel air it live....it aired the whole exchange during their replay on Friday....
Sure, auditory accidents happen, but at this point, they also should be anticipated. How much time is needed to finger the mute button, exactly? Hours, apparently. The Golf Channel said it re-aired the entire Bubba blast in its prime time replay on Friday night, with no editing.First lynching now this.....the Golf Channel is the gift that just keeps on giving. I need to start watching on Thursdays more often.
Oddly, the Golf Channel rightly saw fit to bleep out the objectionable language in its post-game news show, where the disagreement between Watson and Elkington was examined in detail, but let the objectionable language fly live and nationwide in the raw replay. That's irresponsible or lazy, if not a bit of both. According to Golf Channel spokesman Dan Higgins, there is no fabled seven-second delay on the broadcasts and the re-airing of the comments without editing was a mistake the network acknowledges.
"That's something we have to improve upon," Higgins said Monday. "We should have caught that for prime time and didn't."

Dana Jacobson (Of All People) Questions Tiger Woods' Use Of Language
Wednesday, March 26, 2008
Tiger Woods appeared on ESPN's First Take today and did an interview with Dana Jacobson on a number of topics. Some of those topics included Doral, The Masters, March Madness, and reporters taking pictures. Jacobson wanted to get his side of the story in regards to the "break their f**king neck" line the LA Times said that he dropped on the crowd, but she didn't stop there....
I understand ESPN wanting to get an answer from Tiger about this but do you think they could have got someone other than Dana "F**k Jesus" Jacobson? When she said, ""What do you say to those who question … the level of anger and your choice of words?", I wanted to break her f**king neck. I can't imagine how Tiger felt. Hello pot...meet kettle.
I'm sure he'll be back on First Take very soon.
