ESPN has run-ins with athletes and coaches all the time (see: Sutcliffe, Rick), and you can add another one to the list. A week ago, ESPN ran with a report from two "sources" that said the Vikings had given Brett Favre a deadline to announce his intentions, but according to Childress....someone made it up.
If the Minnesota Vikings have given Brett Favre a deadline to come back, it's news to team's head coach. While it appears that ESPN made up the deadline, they're not the only ones making things up. Rosenfels and Jackson have to be distracted by this, and if Childress and the Vikings don't give Favre a deadline, it could be the beginning of the end for the Vikings in 2009.
"Absolutely not," Brad Childress told radio station KFAN in Minneapolis when asked about ESPN's report that the team had given Favre a deadline of this week to decide on his return. "Maybe by Deanna (Favre) or somebody like that, but certainly not from me. Not even — not even close. (I) don't know where that dropped out of the sky from. ...
"I don't know how you guys in that industry go about your sourcing," Childress added. "'A source that a source said.' I don't know. It's questionable. Very questionable."
ESPN reported the deadline on Monday, citing two unidentified sources.
Childress also said he's spoken with quarterbacks Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels about the situation and that he's not concerned the Favre saga will distract them.
Oh and one more thing. It was definitely a great idea to hire Adam Schefter, because maybe now someone can get a report right (*ahem* Mortensen *cough*)
Childress blasts ESPN's report of Favre deadline (FOX)
ESPN's brashness is amazing to watch, and it will only get worse with shefter.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine Shefter rocking the boat by doing straight up reporting over there. It's not how those assholes do things.
Half of what I hear about Favre-to-Vikings (both from ESPN and other sources) contradicts the other half.
ReplyDeleteThere's a deadline.
There's no deadline.
He wants to come out of retirement.
He's still retired.
He's fine.
He needs surgery.
He's met with Brad Childress.
He hasn't met with Brad Childress.
I've heard all of these reported at one time or another, so it's not surprising that someone finally called BS on it all.
I wouldn't trust Schefter as far as I can throw him. He's every bit as bad as the rest of them at ESPN.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone as incompetent as Brad Childress is questioning your accuracy, it's time to take a long look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteAdam Schefter is Mort's replacement. Mort has gone insane for whatever reason. I thought that a while ago and I am probably right on both fronts.
ReplyDeleteIt's just ESPN trying to keep a non-story relavent. Perhaps Farve and his agent are is in the loop trying to milk his fame as long as possible. He needs to just go away and take those damn Wrangler commercials off the air.
ReplyDeleteDidn't you say earlier today that Schefter was a good hire and, paired with Mort, would make espn the best football news source? I agree Mort sucks, but make up your mind. This blog has turned into what it was supposed to stop (inane ideas that can be flipped at anytime with no reason for either). I have been reading for over a year, but recently paring down what I read. Just to much info about somewhat useless things on the internet, and this site is the next to go if I do more cuts. Seriously, go back to getting cool videos. Your opinions suck and don't matter to anyone.
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone who can put together a more awkward sentence than Brad Childress? I always have to read his quotes more than once to figure out what he is saying. This one isn't nearly as bad as some.

I want to say I feel bad for the Vikings but they indulged Brett Favre's incessant requests. You don't pet the scorpion and think you won't get stung. This is what Favre does to teams. He speculates and bewitches the entire country to be on his side. Thus, while Childress is in the right to tell Favre to go F-himself, the Favre-biased media will crucify him. It really sucks to be Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson right now. I am so glad my Broncos want nothing to do with him. Orton may not have the talent of Cutler and Favre, but he knows how to win and he doesn't screw with teams. Screw you Favre. You can go to hell for all I care.
