I always find it hilarious when reporters get pissed at fans during on-site reports. For some reason they think people aren't going to go crazy when they go live, and the decide to get all upitty. One of those people is Mike Irwin, a reporter from Northwest Arkanas, and here is his exchange with SEC fans in Omaha....
Oh come on, Mikey. You don't need no stinking security! Just drink a few before your next report, and join in the fun!!!
If you're doing a story about how crazy/rowdy the crowd has been, and decide to do the live part in the middle of said crowd, then you're just an idiot for getting upset when the fans go nuts.
One thing that is not good about Omaha so far has been the presence of Karl Ravech as the play-by-play announcer. Not only were we stuck with him for two games yesterday, but also for the first game today. Thankfully Mike Patrick is in the booth tonight. KR should stick with Baseball Tonight and leave the play-by-play to seasoned professionals.
Reporters who get uppity at these types of things should remember that they are easily replaceable. There are numerous talented aspiring young journalists who would love to put up with the "crap" you have to take. Who do you think you are, anonymous Omaha reporter, Brett Favre?
You do a live stand up at a college event with drunk college kids and you have the nerve to look surprised when they start going nuts?
This is why you're doing local spots for some shit station in Arkansas. Oh- if you're going to be on camera- either go with a darker shirt or mix in a salad.
Wow, it was like a douche domino effect - that one Abercrombie & Fitcher just drew the rest into the scene.
ReplyDeleteThat was clearly over the top. He was right to be upset.
ReplyDeleteI completely disagree, JFreak.

I'm with Bazooka Jones.
ReplyDeleteBe a little smarter about where you set up to do your sets. Having said that, I do think those kids where being pretty douchy.
Rule of thumb for people wanting to get their mugs on live TV. Stay in the background.
Best part was at 2:38 when the weatherman at the end saying something about Irwin "opening a can (of implied whoop ass)."

ReplyDeleteHave those words ever been typed on this site?
Karl Ravech isn't the best play-by-play man, but still...
