I hope HBO doesn't mind me sharing some of the highlights from last night's debut of "Joe Buck Live", but honestly I'm doing them a favor. I don't know why for the life of me I thought that Favre would provide something interesting, but it was really 20+ minutes of nothing. That wasn't Joe Buck's fault in the least, but Favre was a waste of time. Well, outside of Favre cursing halfway through the interview.
The rest of the show was pretty entertaining though. Buck had dinner with David Wright, talked celebrity with Ocho Cinco and Michael Irvin, did a piece on "The Smoking Gun", and then brought the funneh with Artie Lange and High School buddy Paul Rudd, bringing the funneh. In fact, Lange might have stole the show with his takedown of Buck in the last segment. I warn you not to be taking a sip of something when Lange is speaking. Here are the highlights and beware of some NSFW language....
Wow....just wow. Hearing someone hint that Joe Buck "sucks c**k", has to be one of the greatest moments on this site. As far as the show....it was a bit hit and miss. Buck did a great job asking questions, wasn't overly smug and even cracked a few good jokes now and then. And while I think the format is spot on, and the fact that the show is a quarterly program gives the producers time to set the show up with some great guests, it's a little bit scattered. The theme was supposed to do with Sports and Celebrity, but none of the panelists touched on that at all.
Two quick suggestions and then I'm done....1) Get rid of the cheesy telescope bits. Not funny. 2) Keep the panels to two guests. With three, someone always gets left out (See: Sudeikis, Jason).
It certainly wasn't a bad first show, but definitely needs to be tightened up. Oh and for those of you who want to see the whole Artie Lange segment, complete with jokes about Jack Buck, here ya go!
Dude, you better pull down the Overtime segment before they yank that:

Holy freaking cow.
Artie is hilarious...and was great during that eight minute segment.
ReplyDeleteBuck may have been relaxed and funny for the other fifty-two minutes (I didn't see the rest of the show), but during that segment he was uptight & humorless.
Instead of taking the ball and running with it after Lange's joke about TMZ.com, Buck did the exact opposite by acting like a sourpuss and essentially saying, "I'm taking my ball and going home."
It's why most people don't really like him...

ReplyDelete"talked celebrity with Ocho Cinco and Michael Irvin"
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for this my entire life, ever since I was an embryo and was forming small, tiny embryonic thoughts in the womb.
Prologue:
ReplyDeleteJoe Buck's dad: One of the all time best and obviously a good father to his son.
Artie's dad: unemployed, drank his weight in Old Crow and was so violent, Artie's mom used to make Artie sleep in the bed with his father...where he regularly got anally molested and subsequently led to his homophobia.
Epilogue: Artie wins the battle, but still cries himself to sleep 3 times a week.
I have a third recommendation- throw Artie off a roof like Letterman does with pumpkins. Now that would be bringing the funneh.
ReplyDeleteMy dad is a broadcasting legend in Utah. If any drunk a-hole were to call him out on a national talk show, I'd be willing to go as well. Lange is a tard. I guess that explains why the Howard Stern show is never worth my time.

ReplyDeleteJoe Buck Live was an utter disaster in my eyes. It was boring, it was long and it was just plain bad. Buck is a boring anouncer, why they thought he'd make an ample host for a show packed with energetic guests is beyond me. Buck did less conversing and more interogating than anything else.
ReplyDeleteIt was obvious Farve did not want to be on the show let alone answer question after question about whether or not he was returning. Chad Ochocinco, one of the NFL's most entertaining players, class clown if you will, fell silent infront of Joe Buck. When a man like Ochocinco doesn't have anything to say, there's something wrong with the program.
Thank God for Michael Irving who kept the conversation moving. I think Paul Rudd immediately regreted doing his friend Buck a favor in joining the inagural show.
Now to the infamous Artie Lange...First and foremost I hate Artie Lange. He just isn't funny, he'll say one funny thing once a month and ride it for the next 30 days. He spends more time interupting than he does adding to any conversation, be it on the Howard Stern show or on Joe Buck Live. But, I will say this, he at least made the show interesting to a degree, and at the very least added some conversation and controversy. For that Buck should thank him...at least Joe Buck Live will get some media attention thanks to Lange.
If there is a God, HBO will drop Joe Buck Live before they start filming another terrible episode. JB, stick to the play by play and leave the hosting to Costas.
As the Orlando Magic and now Joe Buck can tell you, overtime can be a cruel mistress. The debut of HBO’s “Joe Buck Live” was notable for two reasons: The painful, knuckle-biting inexperience of the host, and spectacular warehouse fire of an appearance by MADtv alum and Howard Stern sidekick Artie Lange.
