ESPN's College Football Announcer Pairings For 2008-2009

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

The Week One announcing schedule for ESPN listed a few of the new teams, but I wasn't exactly sure if those were official or not. Well, I now have the full list and there are definitely some interesting pairings that will be covering College Football for the network this Fall.

A Few Notes:

- The teams of Musburger-Herbstreit-Salters, Nessler-Griese-Maguire, Patrick-Blackledge-Rowe, Franklin-Cunningham, McDonough-Spielman-Stone, Jones-Davie, and Pasch-Ware-Andrews are all still intact.
- Jesse Palmer is in the booth instead of Doug Flutie on Thursday nights along with Chris Fowler, Craig James and Erin Andrews.
- Flutie will still be on the ABC Studio show with John Saunders and James.
- Rece Davis, Lou Holtz and Mark May have been moved to just weekday games.

Here are the teams and their assigned locations each week....

Stan Verrett is kicking himself for not being able to call the MAC Championship Game from the studio.

Lou, Rece, and May Day did Saturday games last year? I must have been too drunk to notice/care.

Wait, is Bonnie Bernstein done? Why is Stacy Dales replacing her?

Bonnie Bernstein is done with sideline reporting and is focusing on anchoring/hard reporting it looks like. This is from her website:

After 10 years on the sidelines, I’m beginning to transition into more studio work and in-depth reporting. It’s something I’ve been aspiring to do for quite some time and the need to move in a different direction was compounded by some health issues that have, at times, made weekly travel challenging. So, rather than covering college football this fall on Saturdays, I’ll be honing my skills in other areas, which has been invigorating beyond words.

Anonymous, I completely agree with your statement on McDonough. HOw is this guy not a top tier-game analyst? Is he hard to work with? Has he burned bridges? Did his old man rub people wrong? I can't figure it out. He fits in great it seems with Raftery in college basketball and did some great work for CBS back in the day (92 NLCS, Stoerner fumble against Tennessee in 98).

As a UW alum, it is interesting to see Brock Huard joining up with ESPN. I've heard him call a few UW games on FSN and thought he did a better than average job, particularly for a first timer.

I also concur with everyone else on McDonough. I enjoy watching the games he does with Spielman.

annon 4:21, Bonnie Bernstein has her own website? That's interesting. And I concure, McDough is very underrated. It's a shame he isn't doing the NCAA tournament anymore.

Do we know if the Davis/Holtz/May team will still be doing the studio show on Thursdays? Because the Lou Holtz pep talk is the single most surreal comedy bit on television today.

I think Bonnie has had her own website for a while. I remember looking at it during the whole "Bonnie is having an affair with Fisher/Belicheck/Gruden/some NFL coach."

The only thing bad I can recall about Sean McDonough was when he was not retained by NESN because he was 'too negative' during Red Sox games. He still does a damn good job.

Aug 20, 2008, 7:28:00 PM

Hmmm... so bonnie was discussing her affairs on her website? Isn't that what myspace for?

Pam Ward, I wish I knew how to quit you.

Bernstein has had problems with Deep Vein Thrombosis, a vascular disease that flares up intermittently, but can be fatal in certain situations.

I can't imagine that doing sideline work would be easy on that condition.

Mark Jones has a man crush on "juice williams" . Please Jones you are embarrassing yourself.

I have never heard such one sided announcing as these two bozos during the Mizzou/Illini game.

Alright....am I the only one that has seen how much of an a$$ Mark May has made of himself this entire opening weekend? Arguing with Coach Holtz is not going to get you an brownie pts, but PUHLEZZZZZZZZZZ get this narrow minded idiot off the ESPN staff pronto. Shania Twain could give a better game day analysis than this retard.

Mike Patrick and Todd Blackledge... are they done doing the SEC games?

I noticed this weekend's ESPN SEC tilt is Jones/Davie...

Or are they just waiting until we get into conference play to get it all straighetend out?

As a fan of the FSU Seminoles, I don't appreciate the "comments" Jesse Palmer made at the beginning of the Halftime Report regarding our young QB, Chris Ponder. We are a young team, and Chris Ponder is playing his third game as QB. What Ponder said was not insulting to Wake Forest, and it would not have been insulting to any team FSU is be playing, he simply made a comment that he thinks FSU will win. What Jesse Palmer stated on national television was uncalled for and he should be made to apologize to The FSU Seminoles Football Team and the Fans. He is pompous and needs to keep his opinions to himself. Just like Ms. Nix said, "tell us how you really feel". She as much as said he was insulting.

sean mcdonough sucks. you must be crazy if you think hes underrated. theres a reason he only does the crappy noon games. verne lundquist, mussburger, nessler, ron franklin, and mike patrick tower above the rest.

Ron Franklin, Ed Cunningham are the worst announcers they can't say the city Piqua right they called OSU player Anderson Russel, Russel Anderson. They said Illinois have won the last three games in Columbus when OSU won 40-2 in 2005. This is bush league bullcrap.
