The Ukraine is Weak!

I don't really have much to say about Soccer/Futbol. I just really wanted to post that title all day long....
I did actually get to sneak out of work and catch the excitement that was Tunisia vs. Saudi Arabia. Here are my thoughts:
1. Soccer does the most amazing job of tricking you into thinking it's exciting. For 3/4ths of the game nothing is happening and then a sub comes in and scores a goal in the 84th minute and people go nuts. I don't understand it.
2. Al-Jaber (Jaw), who retired from the national team, then was brought back for qualifying, entered the game and apparently it's a big deal. He has played in four World Cups and now has goals in three after scoring on his second touch of the game. Okay this was a pretty good goal, and would have been a great story but.......
3. Tunisia struck for the tie. Jaidi (Hiddy Hiddy Ho, or White), pushed up and was unmarked in front of the middle of the goal to head in a pass. Only in Soccer/Futbol can a team be so retarded that it leaves a defender un-defended (is that a word?) in the box.
4. It really doesn't matter. Well to the people in their respective countries it might matter, but not to my Narrow-minded Americanized Self. Spain crushed the Urkraine 4-0, and neither of these teams can beat the Ukraine.
5. Germany rubs it in Poland's face. Not only did they invade and thrash Poland in 1939, but they just beat them in an enthralling Group A match 1-0.
So basically I wasted a lunch break, sitting at a random bar by myself, watching a sport I hate......well I guess it beats actually working. I'm going to try to stomach watching Hockey tonight, and I'll report back tomorrow....If I make it through.
Simmons I am Not!
So there is no Awful Announcer for today because I didn't get to watch the game with sound. (I was at a bar all night...on a Tuesday for some reason?)
I did want to bring up a point on that final inbounds play though. Why the hell is Dirk throwing that in?!?!?! If you are going to a backdoor alley oop play, shouldn't he be in as a decoy? And shouldn't you not (Yes I know that's a double negative) throw it to the guy who is being defended by Wade who can jump through the roof? (maybe throw it against JWill [the awful defender not the autistic kid] or Gary Payton?
You see what you did Avery? You made me look like a fool for saying you were out-coaching Pat Riley, and now my ten readers think I have no credibility. (Also that collapse in the fourth ruined my prediction of a sweep, which in all actuality was a pretty dumb prediction.) (I really have to stop writing in parentheticals.....it's making me read like Bill Simmons.....and that actually makes me nauseas.) Speaking of which....has he had a new column within the last three weeks? I need my diary of the Czech vs. U.S. game which took place three days ago, and stat! Come on Bilbo. And lastly there is a HUGE rumor about JJ coming from FreeDarko. Please read for yourself. http://freedarko.blogspot.com/2006/06/poetical-dont-last.html.
The Power of Deadspin

Point (Fast) Break
Monday, June 12, 2006
So the highlight of the Finals for me so far hasn’t come during play…..(which has been dreadful by the way)……it came in the Pregame before Game 2.
Coming out of an awful piece involving Ahmad Rashad and Shaquille Oneal (apparently it was about some bowl that has something in it that Shaq nor any of the rest of the Sorry Ass Heat will reveal. I only caught the tail end of the story, but I can tell already I don’t really care). Well the gem came immediately after when Stu Scott (don’t worry he’ll have his moment on this site) stated, “The rest of the Heat players know what’s in the bowl, they know what’s in there….and they ain’t talking.”
Mark A. Jackson, the number two player in career assists, replied, “Man, I’d love to rob a bank with those guys!”
Um what?!?! Excuse me? I don’t even want to take the whole “sterotype of black athletes” angle because that’s not my bag, but come on. That’s the last thing a former star in the NBA should be saying before a major broadcast. No I won’t take that angle….I will take the angle that immediately came to me, and that’s making fun of it.
I first imagined Mark assembling a rag-tag ensemble of former NBA stars who have gone on to broadcasting careers, in Point Break’esque fashion wear the masks of former white NBA Superstars, and terrorize banks up and down the California Coast. Here’s my list:
Mark A. Jackson- Dressed with a John Stockton mask of course. Stock is the man he is second to in assists and seems only natural. Mark is the ringleader and drives the getaway car.
Reginald Wayne Miller- Dressed in a Larry Bird mask. Reggie Miller is riding shotgun on this trip.
Charles Wade Barkley- Dressed as former teammate Tom Chambers. Chuck is the muscle in this gang, is crazy, and flies of the handle at times. It’s Mark’s job to keep him in check.
Earvin Magic Johnson- Dressed as Pistol Pete Maravich. Magic is the one with “nothing to lose” if you catch my drift……he battles with Chuck as the crazy one in the gang. The two of them work hard, but party harder.
William Theodore Walton- Dressed as a decoy…..Bill Russell. Walton is the heel of the group and his oafiness and overall absentmindedness is what causes the group to slip up on occasion. Walton is what you could call "Expendable" in Jackson's eyes.
Movie Tagline: 27 banks in three years - anything to (hit) catch the perfect (shot) wave!
(Yes, I have no life.......)
What I Learned Over the Weekend
1. The NBA Finals are boring- When Erick Dampier is outscoring Shaquille Oneal you are in for a pretty short finals. I don’t see the Heat beating Dallas at all in this series. Avery Johnson is out-coaching Riley in every facet of the game.
2. Michelle Wie blew another chance to get her first LPGA win with some more horrible putting, which lead to this wonderful photo of Ronald McDonald stalking Se Ri Pak.
3. Apparently the French Open Final was Sunday.... Someone forgot to tell me that this was important. I blame Vince and Jennifer who were in attendance.
4. I was reaffirmed that soccer is a boring sport.
5. Nothing ever happens in Entourage…..besides Jeremy Piven continuing to miraculously grow his hair back.

6. I hate T.O. more than ever now…..

Back later with an awful announcer…..one Mark A. Jackson.
