Don't Expect NBC To Flex Their Muscles This Season

Monday, November 30, 2009

Sorry, I know that was a cheesy title but it had to be done. With the announcement today that NBC isn't going to be flexing the Week 14 Eagles-Giants game, that just about solidifies the fact that not a single game will be flexed into Sunday Night this season. Well outside of the open slot in Week 17. Here's a look at the rest of the schedule....

Week 13: Sunday, December 6th - Minnesota Vikings at Arizona Cardinals
Week 14: Sunday, December 13th - Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants
Week 15: Sunday, December 20th - Minnesota Vikings at Carolina Panthers
Week 16: Sunday, December 27th - Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins
Week 17: Sunday, January 3rd - TBA

I think NBC could potentially flex the Cowboys-Redskins game, but even when one of the teams is terrible, that matchup still brings in good ratings. We shall see though.

NBC actually flexed in this week's Minnesota at Arizona game, replacing the originally scheduled New England-Miami game.

Wasn't this week's Vikings-Cardinals game flexed? It used to be Pats-Dolphins

Vikings - Panthers is 50-50 to flexed. Favre is great for ratings but not even he can save a game with two B-tier markets. Unfortunately, after the two protected games (GB-PIT on FOX, CIN-SD on CBS) the pickings are very slim that week, with only half way decent games being CHI-BAL and ATL-Jets.

Note: The real crime is the night before: DAL-NO on NFLN Saturday Night.

Yes, NBC did flex out of Pats-Dolphins for Vikes-Cards.

I think AA should have worried about the accuracy of the story first, then worried about cheesy headlines.

Salty1973, where does one find out what games have been protected from being flexed by CBS / FOX? I've always been interested in that. Thanks

I found the list on the 506.com. Same site that has the coverage maps. Each network has 5 protected games within 6 weeks. They cannot protect more than one game in a week.

CBS
Week 11: NYJ-NE(CBS),WSH-DAL(FOX)Week was not flexed

Week 12: None(CBS),CHI-MIN(FOX)
Week not flexed

Week 13: TEN-IND(CBS), DAL-NYG(FOX), Week flexed MIN-ARZ (moved to NBC)

Week 14: SD-DAL(CBS), GB-CHI(FOX); PHI-NYG(NBC) Note: DEN-IND on CBS unprotected

Week 15: CIN-SD(CBS),GB-PITT(FOX), MIN-CAR (NBC) Note: Awful games available to be flexed.

Week 16: BAL-PIT(CBS), None(FOX), DAL-WAS (NBC) Note: Best games available are DEN-PHI or NYJ-IND.

Week 17: Game most important for playoffs.

Had the 49ers won today, I guarantee you the Eagles-49ers game n teh 20th would have been flexed in over MIN-CAR.

Eagles-Niners is an awesome game.....15 YEARS AGO!

Philadelphia will play its Fourth prime time game. The rule is up to three teams can play 6, the rest are limited to three. Though they have one to burn, NBC are going to save Philly for the last game of the year....against Dallas.

Ratings = Cha-Ching.

Week 15 appears inflexible.
