ESPN Gets Into The IPhone App Game With Its Version Of Photo Hunt

Thursday, October 16, 2008

If you've ever played "Photo Hunt" at one of those little game kiosks in a bar, then you know exactly what ESPN is going for here. Also known as "Cameraman" (apparently), the game involves two pictures, and you have to find the differences between the two before the time runs out. It's a great game and there's even a nude version which I have lovingly dubbed, Boobie Touch.

Well ESPN is using the same company, Epic Tilt, that developed the game and according to the NY Times, you'll soon be able to add the app onto your IPhone....

Using photos from the Olympics, the NFL, Major League Baseball, college football, soccer and a bunch of other sports, the game is the exact same as it would be at a bar. You see a difference in a picture and you point to it. If you’re right it’ll highlight the area and give you points, if you’re wrong the picture will shake and you will lose some of the time allocated for you to finish that puzzle.

You get bonus points for solving each puzzle fast and you lose lives when you run out of time without solving a puzzle. You also get three hints to use that give you one area of difference that you have not yet found. There is a top score area which will sync up with other top scores around the world. The game also features ESPN music.
Seems like a fun idea in theory, but the screen on an IPhone is awfully small. Those with fat fingers are probably not going to find the game a lot of fun. The good thing though is that it's free, so if anyone out there has an IPhone (I know one of you won one from this site), let me know how good it is. Because we all know how that ESPN Mobile thing turned out, right?

It's Baaaaaaack!

Well just when you thought ESPN had given up on the cell phone market Verizon swoops in to give them a second chance.

ESPN is relaunching its shuttered cell phone service through Verizon Wireless, this time delivering its flashy feed of sports scores, news and video highlights through a top industry player instead of competing for subscribers with its own full-blown wireless brand.

The Verizon relationship is the first example of the new strategy that ESPN executives promised last September in announcing they were pulling the plug on Mobile ESPN as a standalone cell phone company featuring its own handsets, calling plans, customer service and monthly phone bills.
Some of the new features?
The companies also planned to announce that a broadcast TV service for cell phones that Verizon plans to introduce will feature an ESPN channel with much of the same programming being shown on its sports cable networks.
Great.......Mike and Mike on the go.
