Chris Mortensen has stated that he has not spoken to Favre himself, or his agent since last week, but that isn't stopping the ESPN reporter from shooting down a report from one of his co-workers. Trent Dilfer said the other day that Favre texted him with an unequivocal "NO", when asked about his return to the NFL. But according to Mort, his buddy Favre was responding to something else.

Mortensen was on Mike & Mike this morning, and when the subject of Favre and Dilfer came up, he stated that he believed Brett to be answering the question of whether he had hired a personal trainer. Here's the audio....

Brett Favre's agent has certainly made it clear that the quarterback isn't planning on coming back, but we haven't heard from the man himself. Until now, and in a one-word text to an ESPN analyst. Trent Dilfer randomly texted Favre yesterday, to ask him if he had any desire to un-retire (for the 15th time). According to the Star Tribune, Favre simply responded with a "NO"....

A few hours ago, we wrote that retired quarterback Brett Favre hasn’t been contact with the usual suspects when it comes to communicating his desire to play, or not play, since he was granted his release last week from the reserve/retired list by the New York Jets.

Well, now there has been contact with Favre. Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer, who now works for ESPN, sent a text to Favre today asking if there was any chance he would consider playing in 2009. Favre responded in a return text with the word “NO.” And he put it in caps.

Does that mean Favre isn’t going to be playing for the Vikings this season? As ESPN’s Kevin Seifert points out, this one-word answer “won’t create so much as a ripple in speculation that [Favre] might play.”

So obviously the big news over the weekend was the fact that Terrell Owens quickly signed on with the Buffalo Bills, to the tune of $6.5 million. While the ink was still drying on that deal, the Bills decided that they can't be wasting time in recouping some of that guaranteed (so stupid) money, so they got word out that T.O. jerseys were for sale on their website. With #81 already taken (James Hardy), the team decided to give Owens the only number that would work for him. #1....


How fitting huh? Owens can always switch, or buy eighty one from Hardy, so this #1 jersey might be worth something in the future. Well at least worth a bit of comedy when you wear it out in public next year.

There are about three teams involved in the Terrell Owens sweepstakes and they are the Titans, the Raiders and most surprisingly, the Patriots. Now newspapers will usually put up polls and forums that ask the fans their opinion on free agents, but it's rare that the team does so on its own website. Until now....

If T.O. wanted to play for the Patriots, should New England sign him?

Assuming T.O. doesn’t have a lot of options, which I think is a safe assumption at this point, I hope he comes crawling to Bill Belichick and the Patriots in a last-ditch effort to resurrect his reputation and championship dreams. Let me be clear, if he has options and expects the Patriots to in any way bid for his services then I have no interest.

Good lord. I honestly though that the Yankees were out of the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes, but apparently I was wrong. The Yankees just signed the slugger with a eight-year deal worth $180 million. Not only have the Yanks signed three players in the offseason totaling $423,500,000, but they now have four of the MLB's highest paid players on their roster.
