Who Is This Jose Posada You Speak Of, Bob Costas?

Thursday, April 16, 2009

I've been watching the Yankees' first game at their new stadium on the MLB Network for most of the afternoon, to see how good of a transition Bob Costas is making back into the booth. For the better part of the game, he (along with Reynolds and Kaat) has been doing a great job, but he had a pretty big gaff during the fifth inning.

If you're going to get the opportunity to call the first homerun at Yankee Stadium, and people will hear the call forever, you might want to get the player's name right as he rounds the bases....

Whoops! Again, he's been great for most of the afternoon, but that was a pretty big slip up right there. I'm thinking the Yankees will file away the YES Network's call, instead of Costas'.

Your World Series Game Four In Moving Pictures

Monday, October 27, 2008

Another game, another collection of Phils homers. I don't have anything clever at this late hour, and S2N captured everything in the live-blog, so here's your Game Four highlights....

Random thought here, but where did you think the "Joe The Hitter"/"House Promo" combo by Chris Meyers, during his postgame interviews, rank on the cheesiness scale? God I can't stand that guy. Anyway, Game Five is tomorrow night and we'll see if the Phillies close this thing out. Just one more Philly.... onnnnnnnne morrrrre!

On Ron Darling's "Mockery" Comment About Manny

Friday, October 03, 2008

So a few people wrote in about a moment from last night's Dodgers-Cubs game and I wanted to explore it a little bit today. Manny Ramirez had just hit a solo shot to centerfield off of Carlos Zambrano, and when going through the highlights, Ron Darling noticed a little smile that Manny flashed right before the pitch. Forget for a second the awesomeness of smiling at a pitcher and then hitting a homerun, but rather listen to Darling's comments immediately following the grin....

"A little smile by Manny, like he knows what's coming. Sometimes guys just make a mockery of the game. Don't they Tony?"- Ron Darling

Now at the time, I thought that he was saying that in a positive way (that Manny was just too good), but a few people wrote in saying that they were furious and the use of the word was negative. The statement is so ambiguous, that I can definitely see their point. I've currently got an email into TBS, but I wanted to get your thoughts while we wait for a response. I still think it was positive but Darling definitely should have used a different word.
