Super Bowl Announcing Preview- The Booth

Friday, February 02, 2007

"There's not enough time! There's never enough time!!!"- Jesse Spano

Sorry to steal a quote from The Big Lead, but that's exactly how I feel today. I'm running out of good weekday readers, and I teetering on the edge of the cliff dive of weekenders (I love you weekend readers don't get me wrong). Either way I'm glad to provide you with the latest....albeit short.....installment of Super Bowl XXXXI previews (seriously what's wrong with 4 Xs?).

For the ultra-hip radio version click Awful Announcing's Brian Powell

Special thanks to the Rockstar Jamie at SBL for letting me pollute the airwaves and make Martha Quinn jokes (P.S.- That is my birth name, but please still call me AA.....I like the whole anonymous Superhero thing. Think of me like Max Power.).

Jim "Nancy" Nantz

To tell you the truth.....I can't find anything wrong with the guy (trust me...I've tried). He's a family man, wishes his dad was around to see him to his first Super Bowl, gives a kid his tie after every broadcast (true story), and can do every event from the craziness of the Final Four to the subtle drones of the Masters......"A tradition unlike any other".

He has a propensity to use the word "guys" too much, but other than that he's solid.

Current Grade: A

Phil "Cavemanateur" Simms

In between shooting Geico commercials and saving Autistic children (a very noble thing) Phil is an average broadcaster. I hated Phil when he worked with Greg Gumbel, but he's grown on me a bit. He has great analysis during the game, but he's one of those "I played the game, so you don't see what I see" guys. That gets pretty damn annoying, and you'll probably get some chatter about Super Bowl XXI.

Current Grade: C+

So love em' or hate em' you'll have them for a good 3-4 hours on Sunday. I might be lurking around the Ebays on Saturday and Sunday, but I'll be gone Monday. The string of calling out of work the day after the Super Bowl is over, and I will be in an all day meeting (trying not to sleep).

Enjoy the game if I don't talk to you before noon on Sunday, and the AA official pick is Bears +7.

Sports Bloggers Live Week

Thursday, February 01, 2007

So today is the day that I'll be on with SBL, and guess who is joining them before me? None other than Joe Theismann! How about that?

I will most likely not be able to listen until right before I go on (last of the day....around 12:45), so I need you to badger him with questions to Jamie at DCSportsGuy (IM). You know....things like.....Have you ever picked a challenge call correctly? Why do you contradict yourself during broadcasts? Is it true that you have to score point to win a game?

You know things along those lines. Feel free to then bash me at 1245 after AJ from Deadspin and Michael David Smith from Fanhouse. I never actually thought anyone would hear my voice, so prepare yourselves (maybe I shouldn't have made fun of Simmons so much), and let's hope I come out looking as good as BDD from KSK. He seems to think he was bad, but I'd vote him best of the week. I mean who else could tell Jamie he's cute and that he should do some coke while in Miami?

I'll be back later with the final set of previews for Nancy and Simms (it will be mainly what you hear in the interview though), and Sam T will be live-blogging the Duke game tonight. Fun Times.....follow along won't you? Won't you!?!?

Sports Bloggers Live Week- Day 2

Tuesday, January 30, 2007

Wow was yesterday ever entertaining. You have to check out at least the Bears Poet Interview.....it was hilarious. The guy broke out a new poem (I like to call them raps) live on air. Today is more of the same.....

Bad Jocks, Kissing Suzy Kolber, Pro Football Talk and Da Superfans.

With a special guest appearance from a certain ESPN Columnist (You get three guesses).

Jamie is taking questions and relaying them to the guests starting at 12 noon, so IM him early and often at DCSportsGuy. And if you don't have IM you can email me questions at AwfulAnnouncing@gmail.com, and I can forward them on for you.

Sports Bloggers Live

Bears Poet Matt Ballard (Highly recommended!)

I will see you later today with some Super Bowl XXXXI (that was a joke by the way) Announcing Team previews. Today.....the sideline reporters....I bet you can't guess how many CBS will have???

(Psst......the answer is 4.)
