More ESPN Music News, DMB "Official Band Of College Football Coverage"
Tuesday, September 01, 2009

Now I'm really confused. I thought ESPN had signed on Kenny Chesney to sing their College Football song this season, but today the "Leader" announced that Dave Matthews Band is the "Official Band of ESPN’s 2009 College Football Coverage". What does that mean you ask? Well....
The Grammy Award-winning Dave Matthews Band will serve as the official band of ESPN’s college football coverage from the kickoff of the season to the conclusion of the BCS National Championship Game on ABC on Jan. 7, providing 10 songs – seven from their new album Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King -- for game and studio telecasts across multiple platforms. The other three songs will come from the albums Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming.Hmmm. And I thought I was confused before that blockquote. So let's try to get this straight using ESPN's actually quotes. DMB will be the "Official Band of ESPN’s 2009 College Football Coverage", while Kenny Chesney has "has written a song exclusively for ESPN’s college football game and studio telecasts". I now see how that's totallllllly different.
The music will be featured in various ways during game and studio telecasts, including as the networks go to and return from commercial breaks, in highlight montages and for promotions of upcoming programs and show segments across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN360.com, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN International.
On occasion, the song will be accompanied by a video montage of Dave Matthews Band concert performance footage and college football highlights. Every Saturday Night Football Presented by Southwest Airlines telecast on ABC will feature a 45-second montage of first-half highlights at the beginning of the second half.

Bob Costas Has Some Odd Criteria When Voting For NFL Coach Of The Year
Tuesday, January 06, 2009

It seemed pretty cut and dry that Falcons' Coach, Mike Smith would win the 2008 Coach of the Year award, but that wasn't the case for one Robert Quinlan "Bob" Costas. See Costas' vote went to someone who's team didn't even make the Playoffs. In fact, it went to someone who's team did five games worse than they did last season. Yep, Costas voted for Bill Belichick, and here's his reasoning. Via The Boston Globe....
“I didn’t think he would win, but I thought he deserved a nod for what might have been the best, or certainly one of the best coaching jobs of his career,” Costas said. “He loses [Tom] Brady, and it’s not just losing Brady, but also that [Matt] Cassel basically never played. It’s not the same thing as losing Johnny Unitas and you have Earl Morrall. He brought the kid along."I also think Belichick is an amazing coach (when he's not cheating...I kid), but to vote someone in for what he did with just one player makes absolutely zero sense. Especially when you consider the performances by the other candidates.
“The winner is usually the guy whose team is the most surprising, and I wouldn’t argue against Smith, Sparano or [John] Harbaugh. You could make a good case for them, as well as others, like Jeff Fisher, Tony Dungy, John Fox and Tom Coughlin. I just thought Belichick did a phenomenal job, considering the emotional hangover that had to be there from coming so close to perfection [in 2007] and losing in such agonizing fashion, and then you lose Brady virtually from the opening kickoff of the first game. There is not just a strategic adjustment that has to be made, but you have to convince these guys not to say ‘to heck with it.’ There must be an incredible level of respect there for him to command that type of effort.”
Oh and yes, in case you were wondering, Costas' was the only vote cast for the Patriots' Coach.
Vote for Belichick was cast by Bob Costas (Boston Globe)

Your Full NFL Playoff Scenario List
Monday, December 22, 2008

I was flipping through Yahoo's Playoff Generator this morning, and figured since I spent 30 minutes breaking down each teams odds at getting in, that I'd put up a thread that breaks down the war entirely. Feel free to correct, add to, and discuss all of what you see below in the comments.
NFC:
New York Giants- Clinched top seed and first round bye with Week Sixteen win over Panthers, will have homefield advantage throughout the Playoffs.
Carolina Panthers- Can clinch the second seed and first round bye with a win over New Orleans, or a Falcons loss. If Carolina loses, and the Falcons win, they will secure the 5th seed
Minnesota Vikings- Can clinch the NFC North with a win against the Giants or a Bears loss on Monday Night (Green Bay), or in Week Seventeen. They have no shot at a Wild Card spot.
Arizona Cardinals- Have locked up the 4th Seed by winning the NFC West. Cannot move up to the 3rd seed under any scenario
Atlanta Falcons- Secured a Playoff spot by beating Minnesota in Week Sixteen. With a win at home against St. Louis, and a Panthers loss in New Orleans, the Falcons will get the 2nd seed and a first round bye. If the Philly beats Dallas, they will end up with the 5th seed, if Dallas wins...they get the 6th spot.
Dallas Cowboys- Win and they're in. With an Atlanta loss against the Rams, and a win, they're the 5th seed. Otherwise they're in the 6th spot.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Has to win at Oakland, and needs losses from both Chicago (in one of their remaining two games) and Dallas. Can only clinch the sixth seed.
Philadelphia Eagles- Need to beat Dallas, have Tampa Bay lose to Oakland, and have Chicago lose on of their next two. Can also clinch if Chicago wins both games and they beat Dallas.
Chicago Bears- Can still win the NFC North with two wins and a Minnesota loss. Can also obtain the 6th seed with two wins, a Vikings win, and losses from Dallas, Atlanta and Tampa Bay.
AFC:
Tennessee Titans- Clinched the top spot and homefield advangage with win over Steelers in Week Sixteen.
Pittsburgh Steelers- Have won the AFC North and have secured the 2nd seed, as well as a first round bye.
Indianaoplis Colts- Have clinched the top Wild Card spot by finishing second in the AFC South.
Denver Broncos/San Diego Chargers- Whoever wins their Week Seventeen Matchup will clinch the 4th seed by winning the AFC West.
Baltimore Ravens- Clinch only clinch the 6th spot. They can do so with a win over the Jaguars in Week Seventeen. They can also get in with a loss as long as the Dolphins beat the Jets, and the Bills beat the Patriots.
Miami Dolphins- Can win the AFC East with a win over the Jets and will have the 3rd seed. Lose and they're out.
New England Patriots- Can win the AFC East, and the 3rd seed, with a win over the Bills and a Jets win over Miami. They can also lock up the 6th seed with a Dolphins win, and a Ravens loss to the Jags.
New York Jets- Can win the AFC East, and the 3rd spot, with a win against the Dolphins and a Patriots loss to the Bills. Can lock up the sixth seed with a win against the Dolphins, a Patriots win, and a Ravens loss
Whew. Is your head hurting as bad as mine at the moment? I can't remember a final two weeks of the NFL Season where this many teams had a shot. It's going to be a fun Week Seventeen!

That Does It - I'm Drinking Coke Products From Now On

From The Beautiful Game:
Will somebody please explain to me what the hell that was all about?
Or, if that question proves too difficult to answer, try this one: Pepsi has David Beckham, Thierry Henry, and Christina Aguilera at its disposal, and this is the best commercial they could come up with? I thought the point of commercials was to convince you to actually purchase the product being advertised?
On the other hand, what do you expect from the marketing geniuses that thought this commercial was good (I can't even bear to emded it. It will literally swallow your soul if you watch it more than once)?
(By the way, the title is a lie. My love of Mountain Dew is not dependent on advertising. Stupid commercials or not, I just don't know how to quit Dew.)
