The Chicago Sun-Times' Doesn't Appear To Be Missing Mariotti
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Randball came across the Chicago Sun-Times press release this afternoon in regards to Jay Mariotti quitting his role at the paper, and it could quite possibly be the funniest statement ever written. From RB via Poyneter...
Topic: Miscellaneous itemsHahahaha. With that one jab, Michael Cooke just became my hero. It's sad that his industry is dying, and that Mariotti wins out in the end because he'll always have an opportunity to spew his nonsense at ESPN, but that's just downright hilarious. Bitter much?

Title: Sun-Times' statement regarding Jay Mariotti
Posted By: Jim Romenesko
Release from the Sun-Times
August 27, 2008
Chicago Sun-Times Editor in Chief Michael Cooke issued the following statement today regarding the resignation of sports columnist Jay Mariotti:
The Chicago Sun-Times had the best sports section in the city before Jay Mariotti came to town -- that's why he signed up with us -- and his departure does not change that.
We still have the stars -- respected veterans such as Rick Telander, fiery newcomers such as Greg Couch, quirky voices like Carol Slezak, not to mention seasoned beat reporters tracking the Cubs and White Sox toward their eventual collision in the World Series, plus the Bears, the Bulls, the Blackhawks, and all the other teams that make Chicago the sports center of the nation. We could have a World Series in Chicago in a couple of months ... talk about excitement!
The Chicago Sun-Times and suntimes.com will continue to have the scores and the stories before anyone else, anywhere, and the deepest and most comprehensive stats and standings. We wish Jay well and will miss him -- not personally, of course -- but in the sense of noticing he is no longer here, at least for a few days.
A paper, like a sports franchise, is something that moves into the future. Stars come and stars go, but the Sun-Times sports section was, is and will continue to be the best in the city.
Update: Mariotti is still doing ATH from the CS-T newsroom. They must not hate him THAT much....
"All these celebrations in and around Chicago. What's going on today?"- Jay Mariotti

Very nice GMoney!
Maybe that one will get you out of the "awful commenter doghouse."
I've been a little busy lately and haven't noticed any comments from AA Hates ESPN. I just assumed he put himself on the PUP list for six weeks.
This is what I love about commenters, like gmoney. You don't tolerate dissent. For you, it seems there's only one side to every story. Look. I made a comment and didn't even bash aa...
One can only hope he was the "happy trails" on PTI today.
Sadly, because Mayor McCheese likes everyone, it won't happen.
"This is what I love about commenters, like gmoney. You don't tolerate misguided logic."

If every comment made here was rooted in some presupposition like, I don't know, "AA Hates ESPN, Women and/or Dana Jacobsen," without any consideration for truth or accuracy, than it would actually resemble...a Jay Mariotti column. It's not that G$ or this dude agree with everything AA says, they just don't happen to agree with you, AAHE. That's all.
I thought the first line was supposed to be the joke until they underscored at the end. I read it as "We were really great before he showed up and now that he's gone we're at the top again."
I like having AAHE around. I like having someone offer up a different perspective. It sees fair that a blog that calls out awful announcing should be called out for awful writing...or at least tortured logic.
Everybody needs to read this piece by Chris De Luca of the Sun Times. Pretty much sums up what his co-workers thought of him

Mariotti isn't in the CST newsroom for ATH today.
I guess he used it yesterday 'cause it was his last day or something.
It looks like he's sitting in his basement. Jackie and Statboy made fun of him.
Roger Ebert laying the smackdown on Jay:

That Ebert reaction is scathing! Way to go, Rog.
Why do I think this will get wierder before it is over?
Man Mariotti's writing is terrible, his sports talk radio show was horrible, and he's terrible on Around the Horn. This guy just plain sucks.
Hey guys!
i just started blogging not that long ago and running across this blog it seemed a bit too interesting to only read the first paragraph. I kinda got confused in the middle of it but the end just made it all go together like a puzzle. Please, who ever wrote this, keep me updated!
Mariotti sucked! All the coward did was insult people.
I hope he moves to China
