Bill Simmons vs. ESPN/Rick Reilly: Round 11

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Yes folks, yet another Bill Simmons podcast, and yet another shot at ESPN and Rick Reilly. Simmons had on The Soup's Joel McHale, and after commenting on the E! network allowing McHale to make fun of the channel, he started at ESPN and took a veiled shot at Reilly. Here's the audio....

Not the worst shot he's taken, but at some point ESPN has to realize he's just trying to get fired. Also at some point, Simmons has to realize this is getting kind of old. It was entertaining at first, but now it just seems a little forced.

I think it's a little irresponsible to assume a specific target of that comment. When I heard it I immediately though of Joe Morgan, but that's just me. Automatically assuming that was directed at Riley strikes me as looking for something that really isn't there in the first place.

Making fun of Reilly will never get old.

My morning dump is funnier than Joel McHale.

I actually didn't think it was about Reilly at all, but rather folks like Morgan and Berman.

I don't even think Reilly makes sense in this context, he's talking about criticizing on air talent. Criticizing another writer is a different thing entirely.

Wow, Joel McHale sounds different on the phone. That's all I've got.

ESPN knows he's trying to get fired. And they won't give him the satisfaction. He's a harmless idiot.
