Christian News Site Automatically Changes Pseudo-World Record Holder's Last Name From Gay To "Homosexual"
Monday, June 30, 2008
As evidenced by some of the stories in the Sports World of late there are some overly sensitive folks out there. One of those groups of people happen to be the Christian news network One News Now who apparently have a filter that changes the word "Gay" to "Homosexual". Obviously it does it for people who have the name Gay, like new 100-meter World Record holder Tyson Gay, and thus gives us the best headline ever....
The craziest part of the whole thing is that when you click on the story it links to the AP version with the correct version of the runner's name. Too funny and it might be time to update your homosexual editing software, One News Now.

Tim Hardaway Is Baffled As To Why The Heat Won't Make Him A Coach
Saturday, May 31, 2008

Sports by Brooks has a set of quotes from an interview that Tim Hardaway did with the Palm Beach Post expressing his displeasure with the Heat's Front Office for not making him a coach....
“For some reason, I don’t know why, I’m not able to be with them. … I don’t know what’s going on there....Okay that actually made me laugh out loud there. You don't know why Timmy? Really??? I'm all for giving people second chances, but if you can't figure out why a team won't hire a known homophobe (whether he still is or isn't) in a town with a rather large Gay and Lesbian Community....then I don't know if you deserve that chance. People continue to amaze me everyday.
I’ve talked to Pat (Riley) Had great conversations with him. Don’t know why I’m not there. I’ve been trying for three or four years now. Don’t know why I’m not there. It’s kind of frustrating to me because I know I can help them out with that type of stuff — scouting, helping out with the guys, making sure they understand what they need to do.
It’s kind of frustrating to have my expertise around and willing to help and they’re not calling.”

Don't Go Getting All Gay On Jim Palmer
Wednesday, April 30, 2008
This just cracked me up when I saw it live. Not only was it funny to see Kevin Millar get thrown out by 10 feet, but Jim Palmer's comments afterward are priceless...
"If you can't run, and the plays in front of you, you just can't get gay."- Jim Palmer
I'm pretty sure that Palmer just flubbed his words and he wasn't calling Millar gay, but good lord could that be taken out of context. Hilarious.

Carl Landry Will Not Accept Your Kisses, But He Will Lead You To Victory
Friday, April 25, 2008
There hasn't been a better defensive play to seal a game in these Playoffs, or in any Playoffs that I can remember, than this Carl Landry play against Deron Williams and the Jazz. The best part though is the kiss that Rafer Alston tries to give the Rockets' defender (1 minute in).....
"Yeah! Hell yeah!!! I just blocked a game winner and kept it inbounds!!!.....wait......no....what?! Stop that! Nooooooooo!!!!"
You so crazy Skip 2 My Lou! But I agree with you, if any play in the Playoffs warranted some man love during these Playoffs than that was it. No harm no foul.....(not that there'd be anything wrong with man love).

Did Law & Order Use A Tom Brady Clone For A Storyline?
Thursday, April 24, 2008
There's a hilarious story out of Boston today. Apparently Law & Order SVU modeled a character after Tom Brady and get this.....the character was the prime suspect in a gay murder!
Here are the similarities: A pro football player who wears No. 12 (Check!), has a cleft chin (Check!), date a supermodel galpal (Check!), plays in a red-and-blue stadium (Check!), and is “the best quarterback in football” (Enh...debatable, but Check!). Now for the rest of the story via the Boston Herald.....
Anyway, the QB ends up getting arrested and convicted for the crime - even though someone else did it - but who cares about any of that? We’re still trying to get over the image of the faux Brady in the faux Gillette Stadium being questioned by the faux detectives during practice. We damn near fell off the couch! They even call the fake Gisele a beard at one point. How f'ing funny is that! If you look even more into the whole thing you can point to the fact that the show takes place in New York City and could be yet another jab to their good friends to the North.
We rang up team spokesguy Stacey James, who was shocked - shocked! - at the “SVU” storyline, which, as you know, is usually “ripped from the headlines.” But James declined comment.
A spokeswoman for NBC, which airs the show created by Dick Wolf, who grew up in New York - but, oddly, went to high school at Bill Belichick’s alma mater, Phillips Academy in Andover - also had little to say.
“NBC has no comment,” said Amanda Ruisi. “L & O is fiction.”

Brandon Lloyd Revists An Old Aikman Rumor on DC Radio
Monday, October 15, 2007

In yesterday's game Lloyd had a diving attempt at a ball that Troy Aikman called "tough but catchable". He got his hands on it, but it was a pretty tough play to make. Well fast forward to today....Brandon Lloyd was on with local DC radio hosts The Junkies this morning to talk all things Redskins. The hosts of the show brought this to Lloyd's attention and he had this to say of Aikman....
Sports Junkies Interview: Brandon Lloyd
(Quote via DC Sports Bog)
B-Lloyd: It's tough. It's a tough, it's a tough, it's a fine line between when a guy's showing passion and when a guy doesn't care, you know what I mean? Some guys take losses differently, some guys are able to smile, that's the way guys get over it. Some guys are pissed off for a couple days or till the next game. Guys take it differently. It's tough. It's so much outside input here. I see why people are confused.
You're listening to a guy like Troy Aikman, and you're a fan and you don't really know much about football, I see why you're confused (laughing). There's no such thing as an easy catch in football, there's no such thing.
Junks: Especially when you laid out like that.
B-Lloyd: You know what I mean? So it's tough, man. And I don't believe Troy Aikman anyway. He wasn't man enough to admit his personal life situation while he was a player.
Junks: Wowwwww.
B-Lloyd: So I have a tough time believing him.
Junks: What do you mean his personal life?
B-Lloyd: And there's nothing wrong with his personal life, you know, I have nothing wrong with, with....
(laughter)
Junks: Do you know that that's true?
B-Lloyd: Hey, I'm speculating too. Troy's speculating and I'm speculating.
Junks: [tumult] You're just throwing him under the....NFL players don't....He's like married....He's just speculating....Are you saying that you know something we don't?
B-Lloyd: No, I'm speculating, just like he's speculating. You guys are crazy. (Laughter)
What Lloyd was alluding to was an old rumor started by none other than Skip Bayless. Back in 1996 he stated in his book "Hell Bent" that Troy Aikman was gay. It was kind of funny when Lloyd said it, but be careful B.....Troy Aikman was rumored to have gone to his lawyer back in '96 to ask how much it would cost him to beat Bayless up.

Sugar Bowl Live Blog, Pre-Game
Wednesday, January 03, 2007
First, I would like to apologize for bumping USC Song Girl AssGate from the top of the page, and thank Awful Announcing for giving me an opportunity to crack fat jokes for the next six hours. As mentioned below, I have a little site called Run Up The Score. It's mainly a college football blog, but often deviates into such topics as mentally challenged headbangers, Jenn Sterger's implants, music, and Pittsburgh sports fans that just need to put their clothes on and shut up.
It's going to be a long night, so let's just cut to the pre-game formalities.
Tonight's Allstate Sugar Bowl returns to it's proper home of the Louisiana Superdome and is essentially a home game for the Louisiana State Tigers. The location also provides a convenient post-game excuse for Notre Dame, who could set a new NCAA record for most consecutive bowl losses (9).
Just for fun, let's look back at Notre Dame's previous eight bowl losses.
| Fiesta Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 24, Colorado 41 |
| Orange Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 26, Florida State 31 |
| Independence Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 9, LSU 27 |
| Gator Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 28, Georgia Tech 35 |
| Fiesta Bowl | | Loss - Notre Dame 9, Oregon State 41 |
| Gator Bowl | January 1, 2003 | Loss - Notre Dame 6, NC State 28 |
| Insight Bowl | December 28, 2004 | Loss - Notre Dame 21, Oregon State 38 |
| Fiesta Bowl | January 2, 2005 | Loss - Notre Dame - 20, Ohio State 34 |
So, Notre Dame hasn't only lost their last eight bowl games, they were beaten by at least 14 points in six of those eight losses.
Fox is carrying the Sugar Bowl, and has assigned the team of Kenny Albert, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jeanne Zelasko to bring us the action. This could get fun. And by "fun", I mean "disasterous." ESPN Radio has the infinitely better team of Brad Nessler, Bob Griese, Paul Maguire and Erin Andrews. Erin Andrews on the radio? That's a bigger tease than the USC Song Girl actually sporting underwear.
Anyway, each school will receive between $14 million and $17 million from the Bowl Championship Series for their efforts. Naturally, LSU will be treated as the home team, which doesn't prevent Notre Dame from wearing those unlucky green jerseys since LSU usually wears white at home. The Irish have a 5-4 record all-time against LSU. The official Sugar Bowl site breathlessly notes that "Notre Dame (10-2), winners of eight of its last nine games, became BCS bowl eligible by tallying nine or more wins in their season." So did 22 other teams, but who's counting?
What To Watch For:
- Can Notre Dame's offensive line protect Brady Quinn, and will LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini be able to generate pressure with only his front four? If Notre Dame can keep Quinn upright or force LSU to blitz linebackers and safeties, WR's Rhema McKnight and Jeff Samardzija could break loose. So could Irish TE John Carlson, who torched Penn State earlier this season.
- Which JaMarcus Russell will show up? This should be easy pickings for Russell, who is the streakiest high-profile quarterback in college football this year. He can be unstoppable at times, but can also crap the bed with the best of 'em.
- Big plays on special teams. Neither team's kicking game is particularly good, which means something freaky is bound to happen. A missed extra point or chip shot field goal, a busted punt coverage, or a blocked kick could go a long way in helping Notre Dame notch the upset.
- Will LSU's fans actually make it into Superdome, or will they be carted off to the nearest emergency room?
Prediction: LSU 34, Notre Dame 30. I'm torn between wanting a close, entertaining game, or a complete blowout, which would force Marv Albert to break into "announcer time wasting mode" with Terry and Howie.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your Fatty McButterpants jokes!
