Greatest. Super Bowl Catch. Ever.

Eli Manning may be unstoppable but David Tyree is a magician!
I love the hurt in Joe Buck's voice as he says this one is caught. Imagine Gus Johnson on that call for a second.
Eli to Plax....

At least Buck had something resembling a hint of excitement, Nantz would have probably let a four letter word fly.
That being said, still a shitty call from Buck. Absolutely AMAZING play though, one that will eventually go down in football lore beside The Catch, The Drive, The Music City Miracle, etc.
What do we call it? You guys can name this thing.....The Spin? The Eli? The Unstoppable???
I was thinking "The Escape" myself, but that doesn't give the catch the respect it deserves. Someone will have the perfect name for it by the end of the week.
The "Fuck You" to all who doubted Eli, but I doubt that will pick up play in the media.
that's the thing ... which was more amazing: eli getting out or tyree's catch on his head? the catch couldn't have happened without eli's badassery, but that catch was sick.
Stupidest. Post. Ever.
Heard of Lynn Swann? Google him. Find him on YouTube. There are you best catches ever. Plus your fetish over Gus Johnson is just bizarre. Buck and Aikman had a good call, and if you think they had a rooting interest, you're totally out to lunch.
AA does have strange fetishes, swing the other way?
but was swann's catch at such a critical juncture? i'm not sure i remember that it was. while it may not be the best catch ever, it may be among the biggest plays ever.
Nice use of periods to emphasize your point, though, anonymous.
I thought Buck recognized the memorableness of the moment and didn't really detect any "hurt".
Here's Gus calling that play: "Manning, goes down, OHH, HE ESCAPES THE RUSH! HEAVES IT DOWNFIELD... OHHHHHHHHH, AND HE MAKES THE CATCH!" And cue some weird reference.
whoa only 2 comments at the SN, that sucks man.
That reminds me a little of Vince Young against the Giants last year.
In tribute to Bill Simmons, we'll call it 'Eli's Eff You Moment'
but will bill simmons acknowledge it happened?
probably not - he will just go back to fellating the Celtics until they flop in the playoffs.
Considering the time it happened (last minute of the game) and degree of difficulty (fingertip catch-- it was a Dwight Clark moment), it's up there in all-time Super Bowl catches. And Eli was outstanding in avoiding the sack (duh, stating the obvious).
The Immaculate Reception will now be known as the 2nd greatest catch in Super Bowl history. Not sure what you call Tyree's catch, but anything that gets grown men hugging and high fiving in a Vegas Sports Book will be the benchmark of unbelievable. Suck it Kraft, thats what you get for using our state(CT)for your gains.
Dwight Clark's catch was against the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game, though.
Not to quibble...
The Immaculate Reception didn't happen in the Super Bowl. It didn't even happen in the AFC Title Game. It was a divisional playoff game, genius.
No way Simmons aknowledges this. Same with the Colts come back. He'll wait about 3 weeks and then throw in some comment.
Pats fans are sore losers just like their sore loser coach.
Couple of things:
1) Swann made two insane catches in Super Bowl X. The second one gave the Steelers enough to win the title - 21-17.
2) The Immaculate Reception was in the AFC Divisional playoff against the Raiders.
Great catch and throw tonight, but not the best ever. Truly great under the circumstances though.
Arguing about whether it's the best catch ever is like arguing who the hottest victoria's secret model is... I mean, whatever, they are all good.
Let's just name this thing :P I'm partial to something involving unstoppable...but I'm not clever enough to think of something good.
"Tyree with the CAAAATTTCCH!!!"
Unbelievable catch, but I have to agree, Swann's were better. His catches won him the M-V-P.
As for Buck, didn't have a problem with his call. While he never seems to add anything great to a game, what I do like about it is he never seems to take away from the game and make it about him. I can't remember a damn thing he said in this game, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.
"18 and 1 Champion New York Giants, go write that book" - Antonio Pierce
Over under on how many times Berman belts out GEEE MMEEEENNNN.
Swann's catch way better. Tyree's though was huge.
Image how awful this game would have been if the Monday Night Football crew was calling the game. Thank heaven that wasn't the case.
In any event, it was a great game and that catch was unreal.
hmmmmm, thinking of a name for the play. Elude and Conquer?
Joe Buck was good on the second video. He did cover his mouth on the first call which if you watch him and troy all year its not really that strange. However the second video was real good by joe buck.

Re Clark's catch: I realize it was in the NFC Championship game -- just was a very similar catch in regards to style (skying for the ball) and timing (end of game). But as someone else posted, comparing catches is kind of crazy -- Swann's were spectacular as well.
THE GLENDALE GRAB!
I'm a Pats fan... and I'll preface this by saying that the Giants deserved to win. Congrats to them.... they beat the Patriots and deserved to be the Super Bowl champs.
That play was the wildest play I've ever seen. If you ran that 1,000 times and had it play out exactly the same way up until the first hand is laid on Eli... 999 times it will be a sack or an incomplete pass. How Eli didn't just trip over someone... how Tyree didn't drop that ball.... It's one of those wild combinations of skill, determination and luck that are needed to win close Super Bowls. I can see that play every day for the rest of my life... and I'll never understand how it was ever completed.
That play deserves to live forever... and it deserves to take its place in Super Bowl lore. I'm not sure anyone involved is quite sure how it all went down... and I'm not quite sure the people who watched it did either. I will watch that replay forever... always expecting Eli to fall down... or Tyree to drop that ball... and always walking away smiling and shaking my head.
Congrats Giants.
Eli also showed great poise there by not throwing the ball to the lineman (Snee?) in front of him. for a second it looked like he was going to do that. Of all people, David Tyree who barely played WR during the year. he was only playing because Sinorice Moss is either hurt again or just so horribly bad.
I didn't say Buck was bad that game just during that call. I even said over at SN that I thought he called a great game. The problem is that he's just boring and likes the sound of his own voice.
And that Swann catch was amazing but nothing compared to Tyree. He caught it on his head with under a minute left in the Super Bowl. Sorry...just one man's opinion.
AA has fetishes? If it turns you on, I'll poop on you. ala Uri.
should be called the "Tyreediculous Catch" - superceds even the immortal Immaculate Reception. Given the gravitas of the moment and who they were facing, it was the best ever...unequivacally. Runner-ups: "Tyreedemption Play" and "Belechick now fit to be Tyree'd"
when i saw that scramble and pass with that amazing catch i said out loud "that might have been the most amazing play in sports I've ever seen"
I'm going with the "Won't Back Down" play. Tom Petty.
Eli Eli Oh!
Fine. Agree to disagree. But San Diego definitely does not stand for Saint Diego.
It is now called the "Super Bowl Salute". I say so.
It's one of the greatest catches in SB history, if not the greatest catch. But the greatest catch of all time is still The Immaculate Reception.
The only time Joe Buck sounds like he knows what he is talking about is when that drooling idiot Tim McCarver is sitting next to him explaining things like, "A 3-0 pitch - he'll be taking." and "Runner on first, no outs, no score. I would look for the bunt."
I would like to submit either "The Clutch" (As in, what Eli escaped and what Tyree did to the ball against the helmet.)
OR
"The Prestige" (as in Eli escaping a sack, a throw in traffic, and the amazing catch by Tyree, a perfect Three part "Magic" play.)
the swann catches were not nearly as hard as the tyree catch...i mean, even the tipped ball was an easy grab..fell right into swann's arms...swann was simply falling over, not being tackled, wrestled, having the ball punched away by the defender, having one hand stripped from the ball, and clutching it against his helmet with one hand as he fell to the ground
Amazing play and I was overjoyed to see the Giants win but I doubt that was hurt in Buck's voice. He only hesitated because it might have been ruled incomplete if the ball came out of Tyree's hands. Imagine the kind of crap he would have gotten if he called it wrong initially. He seemed pretty satisfied by the touchdown catch that followed.
Only a New York fan would have something to bitch about after winning the Super Bowl.
That very well might be one of the greatest Super Bowl plays I have ever seen.
Eli Manning was hitting the field, I knew it, then to borrow a quote from John Madden, Boom!
That was a truly amazing Super Bowl.
