Joe Pa Is Not A Lisa Salters Fan

Friday, January 02, 2009

When you're about to get blown out in the Rose Bowl, and you have a bum leg, the last thing you want to do is answer a random reporters set of pregame questions. Well at least that's how Joe Paterno felt before yesterday's game. ABC's Lisa Salters was trying to get a hold of Joe Pa before the game, and even went so far as to stand outside his booth, drawing the ire of the Penn State Coach. Via Farther Off The Wall....

Paterno didn't come down on the field during pre-game warmups. Nor did he do "a scheduled interview with us even though he was contractually obligated because of our Rose Bowl game deal," she reported.

Paterno instead told Penn State officials he was tired of the focus being on him all week, and rather than draw more cameras and reporters to him before the game against USC started, he'd just retreat to his press box seat.

"I can tell you Paterno has been on a slow boil about this (attention) issue all week long," said Salters, who relayed a story about asking him before the game if he'd talk to the team on the field before heading up to the press box, he snapped back: "Stop talking about me!"

Salters added that Penn State could be "fined up to $10,000" for Paterno's refusal to let her interview him before the game, "and apparently he doesn't care."
Well that's a salty way to be, isn't it? In all seriousness though, coaches give the media a ton of information leading up to the game, that they shouldn't be forced right before the start of a big Bowl Game. Plus, $10K isn't a lot of money for a University like Penn State. Just pay it with, straight cash Joe Pa.

JoePa snubs Lisa Salters, and neither she (nor ABC) is happy about it (Farther Off The Wall)

E:60 Is Back For Round 2

Wednesday, April 09, 2008

E:60 got mixed reviews it's first go around and even sparked some controversy when Lisa Salters called Parkour as "something white people do." For the most part the series was a success though and had some of the best Sports pieces of the year. Well it's back next Tuesday after a four month absence....

ESPN's critically acclaimed primetime newsmagazine E:60, on hiatus since Dec. 11, 2008, will return for five weekly episodes beginning Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. ET. Nominated for two Sports Emmy Awards following its first five episodes last fall, E:60’s first show back from its scheduled break will include profiles of Tiger Woods’ caddy, Steve Williams, NFL Draft prospect and former Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, and Oscar Pistorius, the South African amputee petitioning to compete against able-bodied athletes in the upcoming Summer Olympics.
I'm pretty sure they meant December 2007 in the release but I could be wrong. Salters is on the Tiger Woods' Story, Jeremey Schaap is on the Pistorius piece, and Michael Smith is on the Run DMC one. I enjoyed the show for the most part last go around and if any of these are close to the Jason Ray story from the first run, it will be worth a watch.

There's also no word on whether the Bill Simmons segment is coming back or not. If it means no more views of him in spandex then I'm good with that decision.

Oops, Lisa Salters Sideline Report Broadcast Throughout Stadium

Monday, December 03, 2007

This cracked me up when I read it, so I had to share. ESPN/ABC's Lisa Salter was reporting on Missouri's Chase Daniel during the Big XII Championship game on Saturday to a few more people than she originally thought. Via SBD....

During the Oklahoma-Missouri Big 12 Championship game, ABC’s Lisa Salters could be heard over the stadium reporting, "Well Brent, [Missouri QB] Chase Daniel was over here on the bench fuming. He was just so upset.” Musburger: “Lisa was talking to a lot more folks than she anticipated. (Laughs) Whoa, Chase looked over there and said, 'Who’s talking about me like that on the PA, man?'" Musburger went on to explain, "Lisa is getting ready for a halftime contest … and she will be on the PA system down there, and I suspect when they checked it through the PA they inadvertently left it on”
Damn.....can't believe I missed that one.
