Dan Patrick Won't Be Making Any Friends In Radio Anytime Soon

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Dan Patrick is officially on KLAC-AM in Los Angeles and to make room the roster is getting trimmed. T.J Simers Fred Roggin are the first show hosts to get the ax from a major market and there will certainly be more to come. Via SbB comes this quote from Roggin....

"This is going to be our final show together on KLAC. Yesterday, [we received] the somewhat sobering, yet exciting news. As many of you know, Dan Patrick, who worked for ESPN for many years, left that network and became a free agent and decided to go with syndicated radio."

"As the story goes, as the crow flies, as the wind blows, Clear Channel, which owns this station, signed Dan Patrick. Dan Patrick needed a Los Angeles home. Given the fact that from the very beginning of our go-round here, it had been trumpeted that it was only going to last a year."
So that's one radio show axed. How many more do you think will perish at the hands of DP? I'm officially calling this the Dan Patrick Effect and hope everyone in radio doesn't hate him for firing half of the country's Sports Talk hosts.

Dan Patricks a mental case. About 6 months ago he started having a nervous breakdown on-air recalling ESPN deceased eggheaded broadcaster Tom Mees. Mees died in his own swimming pool. I think Mees huge noggin sunk him right to the bottom.

Anywho Patrick yelled into the mic

Damn You Tom !

It sounded almost like Heston's cry in Planet of the Apes when he saw the Statue of Liberty in the Forbidden Zone.

I don't miss Dan Patrick and am glad he's not on the air in my market.
(not that i'm a huge tirico or stephen a. fan either)

Wow troublizing-

Mees was saving his kid from drowning and didn't know how to swim..ridiculous

As For Simers- good riddance..I can't read his newspaper columns and he's awful on the radio..

I honestly could care less about Dan Patrick and his show, but let me say this: TJ Simers in the morning was awful. I'm mostly ambivalent about Fred Roggin, but Simers was awful on radio. His columns are marginally irritating, especially when he talks about his family, who I am sure are very lovely people, but whenever he references them in a column I immediately flip to the next page.

The fact that his daughter is a co-host is absolutely horrendous; a worse sports radio idea I cannot think of… well, besides the Two Live Stews. I won't get into how terrible Simers and his daughter are on-air because I could go on for hours. I'm just grateful this experiment is coming to an end. And if Dan Patrick is responsible – so be it.

Welcome to LA, Mr. Patrick. It's about time we have an absolute pro in our market for the morning drive. Cowherd is fine, but it will be nice for a change of scenery. The Simers show was beyond awful. Fred Roggin was okay but Simers and his annoyingly uninformed daughter? Whoever gave them a show in the first place (Don Martin) should be fired on the spot. It's unfortunate that it took Patrick's defection from ESPN to get Simers Squared off the air. Good riddance!

Roggin/Simers Squared was the Andorra of radio shows.

KLAC has become an abortion under Don Martin. The first sign that Martin is losing his mind was giving the afternoon drive slot to Joe Grande, Wayne Cook and Matt Smith ("guy talk" radio? whatever). While Smith is serviceable, the other two were noisy bowel movements (and Grande still somehow manages to have what passes for a "show"!). Joe McDonnell, a has-been whose career is circling the drain, may work in Bakersfield but has no business doing 4 hours in LA. The Loose Cannons is sports talk for the brain-dead. And putting the grossly ill-informed Tracey Simers on during morning drive may have been one of the dumbest all-time moves in big boy radio. Dan Patrick will be as cutesy and dull as he was on 710, but at least got got Tracey off air. The best stuff on KLAC is the nationally syndicated programs which Martin fortunately has nothing to do with. Thank God for Sirius.
