As If ESPN Didn't Mess Up Enough Yesterday, John Clayton Magically Appears During Redskins' Press Conference
Wednesday, November 28, 2007
During the height of yesterday's press conference that aired on ESPN (before they cut out early) watch as John Clayton magically appears and then disappears on screen. Watch carefully...
The timing of the appearance with Joe Gibbs speech is about the only thing that got me to smile yesterday. It wasn't funny at all, but just so ridiculous. John Clayton is like the
Good editing ESPN. Unfortunate to say the least.

A Clayton has magically appeared!
Also, the Mortal Kombat guy said "Toasty". C'mon now, you gotta bring your mid-90s video game knowledge.
Damn...I never knew that Fred. I always thought it was Whoopdy or Whoopety. You learn something knew everyday.
Love this blog, and this is the first thing I've posted. It seems a bit unfair to nail ESPN here. It was probably a brief mistake made because the production team was scrambling to keep up with breaking news. We would laugh and pardon the mistake if it wasn't such a serious story; I find it difficult to blame them for this relatively minor offense.
it was a technical problem, not an editing problem...so if you're gonna nail espn for something accidental, i could nail you for not knowing terminology....
My first impulse was a snide remark about "Not ANOTHER post about this..." Upon reflection, however...
If nothing else, these posts have helped me (a non Skins fan in another part of the country) appreciate what the Redskins family (players, coaches, staff, fans) are going through. Blogs aren't supposed to be objective, so any complaining would be out of place.
The irresponsibility of the media to dwell upon speculation instead of fact is nothing new, however. To continue to be surprised at such is somewhat naive. Regardless, I'd begin to expect MTV-type "reporting" from ESPN rather than anything with actual substance and treat it as such: worthless in content and production value.
When Clayton goes into the writers wing of the Football Hall of Fame are we gonna get to see if he is more than a floating head?
robert
your dumb, he did bad stuff. what if this was irvin and they did not report about his off the field behavior. all redskin and eagle fans and all football fans would
not give two shits about his family and friends. you would all bring up his past and say that is why he died.
take your pc liberal bs to the daliy kos.
no one is perfect. the bad was making him a good man.

Looks like you nailed me! Ooooh!!!

sorry, editing is my profession, i get protective...
At least Clayton looks contemplative in the shot. (Or he's trying out for a Brady Bunch revival.)
Oh, boy! I'm called "dumb" by somebody that thinks "your" is appropriate.
I never said Sean Taylor was innocent. In fact, my personal belief is that he's not (though nobody deserves to be murdered). My post was about the lack of fact in the case and the way AA's posts have driven home the effect this has on the Redskins organization.
But, you're right. "im dumb"
thank you i am glad you agree with me, no only if life was this easy
Play nice people...we had enough bashing yesterday.
Anon- I'm sorry for hurting your profession's feelings. You do make sense though. How could you edit something that was live? I'm a dumbass.
John Clayton is a mummy who scares the crap outta you.
Yeah, AA, while I normally completely go along with you on these kinds of matters, you're taking this one a little too personally, and this is coming from a fellow Washingtonian who's just as hurt by this. It's a simple mistake - someone accidentally pressed the wrong button at the wrong time. It could've happened anytime, unless you believe that the switchers only bring their A-game for certain moments.
If it's any consolation, the guy who was working that almost certainly got fired for that mistake.
ESPN is to reporting as filet mignon is to luncheon loaf.
hollywood wags is to a man as richard simmons is to a fag
.. so hw is the ultimate man?
yeah i dont think this is bad. however i was waiting all day for them to cut to chris mortensen via phone with the file photo of mort smiling like a moron
I work in TV too and these things happen, mostly during live events. It was definitely a mis-punch by the TD but I didn't think it was that egregious a mistake.
i screamed in horror
No! No! No! You all are horribly wrong!
ESPN was engaging in subtle subliminal suggestion that Coach Gibbs was getting all non-secular on us, with all the God talk you were supposed to pick up that ESPN wants you to infer that John Clayton is God! Anybody else see the correlation?
are you fucking serious
