Mortensen Can't Even Get A Scoop Right From His Co-Workers
Wednesday, December 19, 2007
People have to just be screwing with Chris Mortensen at this point, but he's done it again. In an exact contradiction of his report this morning, Bill Parcells is not going to the Falcons and is now considering an offer from the Dolphins....
"We gave it our best shot, and it didn't work out. We will continue down the same overall path, proceeding with plans to hire a general manager and a head coach. We will identify and consider every strongly viable candidate for these positions, with the goal of hiring the best," [Falcons Owner] Blank said, according to a statement.Well then....that's good reporting there. In all fairness Mortensen did use the word "likely" in the first report, but about that whole Reggie Bush thing....
Mortensen: (December 8, 2007) "Sources told ESPN and ESPN.com that the former Heisman Trophy winner is likely to miss the rest of the season. ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported Friday afternoon that Bush had a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament, and Saints officials subsequently confirmed the injury."Great job this year Mort. Greaaaaat job. It might be time to take the Kirk Herbstreit approach to "breaking news" at this point.
N.O. Times-Picayune: (December 17, 2007) "Saints Coach Sean Payton said he is "optimistic" that Reggie Bush could be back on the field for Sunday's game against Philadelphia. Bush, who missed the last two games because of a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, is planning to practice this week"
UPDATE: Looks like Parcells is accepting the Dolphins job....

can't really blame Mort when Parcells told other, non-Mort media outlets (in time for todays the morning edition) things like:
""I think I probably will do it," Parcells told the [new york] Daily News by telephone. "The job description is to be the football operations overseer. We still have a little work to do, but I don't think it's anything major. I don't expect any real deal-breaker. I don't think there will be any major hangups.""
He *was* likely to take the job, and one can presume that they found a deal-breaker.
Jay Glazer is soooooo much better these days. Jay knows everything. This is not sarcasm, he's the only reason I watch Fox.
Despite all this, nobody's a bigger fraud than Peter King. That guy's a complete schlubb who never gets anything first or right. And still all of those radio morons salivate when they have him on. Explain that nonsense.
5:31 - agree totally on Peter King.
Terrible TV commentator, terrible writer (I don't care about his affinity for exotic coffees or the 10 things he thinks he thinks he does not know that he thinks he knows), all around awful.
Can't believe King still fools people. What a dork!
Jay Glazer and Chris Mortenson run rings around Peter King every week. King must have pictures of some NBC and HBO executives. How is that misinformed schnook still allowed to appear on television?
Don't forget the Eli Manning fiasco with Mort earlier this year.
Ah yes, the Eli Manning fiasco. Mort says he's out for a month, ends up not missing a game. Hilarious.
Mort didn't get the Parcells story wrong. What he reported was accurate at the time of his report.
The fact that Parcells changed his mind and hung Mort out to dry (and Arthur Blank, but who gives a fuck about Blank, he's getting what he deserves this season) isn't Mort's fault.
jay glazer the past couple of years has just worked over mort.
Well, it's the whole ESPN mentality, which has forced the hand of Fox and everybody else...when something happens that all of us already know, you still see across the "worldwide leader in sports/family of networks" tickers...ESPN's John Clayton reports or ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports...like they break EVERY story. When you set the bar that high, your employees then try to - duh - break EVERY story, even when it sometimes turns out to be the wrong story.
HA, so many people dumped Bush on their fantasy teams.
Its amazing that Chris mortensen cna't get a scoop fom his own co-woorker. thst happned the last itme parcells left ESPN for the Dallas coaching job when Mortensen was outscooped by other media menbers. That can't happned, and i"m suer the wwl is not happy that Mortense got beat again on the Parcells story. Every time this hapned Mort gets less cetble at least in my opinon.
