Bowl Season Doesn't Officially Start Until Something Crazy Happens, Well Something Crazy Happened
Thursday, December 27, 2007
Ladies and gentlemen I give you Texas' new favorite son, Chris. Actually Chris is Mack Brown's stepson and boy oh boy are they going to love him if Texas loses this one. Watch carefully as the kid ever so gently tries to recover a fumble in the field of play.
What's that? How will you know who he is??? Oh you'll know....he's the one who's not a player.....
You don't see it in the clip, but Mack Brown's kid not only cost the Longhorns the ball but also six as ASU scored on the very next play. Bravo Chris.....enjoy your last game on the sidelines.
Here's the full version if you care to listen to Bob Davie interrupt Brent Musburger to talk about nonsense and watch 45 reviews.....

UPDATE: Lisa Salters actually interview the young lad as well. Can someone say Nepotism?

Get ESPN to admit they were wrong? Better start carrying an umbrella then ... don't want to get pig shit on your head.
Incidentally, is there a video of that ?Cotton Bowl? Game where a player comes off the bench to make a tackle?
From the replays, I don't understand how the refs could conclude - without a doubt - that Chris touched that ball. It didn't look like he did to me. There was no change in direction or spin of the ball when it went by his hand.
Didn't look like he touched the ball at all. And does it bother anyone else how much Brent talks about the NFL during college games?
I think the refs saw something that they should have previously controlled and decided that he touched it.
I still don't see how you overturn that.
Talk about timing; just as I was reading your headline, I flipped to the WWL just as they were showing that play. I saw something similar a few years back in one of the UVA-VA Tech games, where the asst trainer for UVA stuck out his foot and tripped Kevin Jones, I think it was, as he ran down the sideline. He was fired the next day.
The ball's rotation didn't change AT ALL. Ridiculous call, he didn't touch it.
However, there were about 15 Texas coaches and reserves on the field during the play. They should be penalized for that, not for Chris not touching the ball.
I've been trying to remember all night...didn't Jim Haslett once run from the sideline and tackle a guy on a punt return that was a definite TD? Am I making this up? I can't remember if he was a coach or a player, but I remember something like that happening.
Doesn't matter if he touched the ball or not:
NCAA College Football Rule 9-2-1-b-1:
During the game, coaches, substitutes and authorized attendants in the team area shall not be on the field of play or outside the 25-yard lines without permission from the referee unless legally entering or leaving the field.
PENALTY—Dead-ball foul. 15 yards [S7, S27] from the succeeding spot.
Flagrant offenders, if players or substitutes, shall be dis-qualified [S47].
(S7 is "dead ball foul" signal. S27 is "unsportsmanlike conduct" signal")
As such, I was confused why they were reviewing it in the first place. Touching the ball would not have made a difference in the ruling.
Hey Bruce, that's a really old clip of Antonio Freeman when he played at VT. I'm almost positive it was against Clemson for some reason.
AA- that could very well have happened, but I was at the game I was talking about(I had season tix at UVA for 3-4 years). It was about 10 years ago, when Welsh was still coach, so maybe it wasn't Jones afterall. Maybe it was a d-back...
Isnt THIS son's name Jesse?
I'm going to beat him like a red-headed stepchild. Oh yeah, he IS a redheaded stepchild.
Chris Mortensen is reporting this morning that Vince Young is the person on the sideline who touched the football
Yeah, he didn't touch it clearly, but they still should have been penalized for him being a DUMBA$$. Here let me just go pick up this LIVE ball while its on the field... what a moron. Are you serious right now, you little red headed stepson???? You are that idiotic? I hate people like this, fire him from his lame, made up job (with its nice title and paycheck because of Mack, so he doesn't have to get a job), and get him off the sidelines. What are you 30??? Get a frickin JOB. Complete MORON.
Hes a man! Hes 40!
There's some good stuff on this at ChrisJesse.net.
Y'all are thinking of the Alabama/Rice Cotton Bowl:
"The 1954 Cotton Bowl featured one of the most famous plays in college football history. Rice's Dickey Moegle began a run around from the 10 yard line and down the open field. Alabama's Tommy Lewis jumped off the bench and tackled Maegle. The referee Cliff Shaw saw what happened and signaled touchdown even though Maegle was "tackled" at the 42 yard line."

In the 1995 UVA/VT game, the UVA trainer tried to trip defensive back Antonio Banks during an interception return.

Unless ASU comes back, one thing is clear: If what they did to ASU is the reason why "USC is playing the best football right now," it's time to reconsider. Because this Texas team played like shit all year.
