Barack Obama To Get His Own Selection Show On ESPN

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Not a Selection Show in the sense of picking the teams in the Tournament (obviously), but Barack Obama will breakdown every pick of his bracket on Sports Center today at Noon. Via ESPN....

The President's Final Four: Louisville, North Carolina, Memphis, Pitt

The President’s bracket fulfilled a campaign promise made to Katz during an October 19, 2008 interview, for a story about Craig Robinson, Oregon State head basketball coach and brother-in-law to the President.

Said Katz, “President Obama made his picks as a sports fan, not as a politician. He was knowledgeable about the teams, and was even up to date on the latest injuries involving the contenders. He was confident with his picks and delivered an on-camera pep talk for the team he picked to win it all. It was clear that he enjoyed filling out his bracket like the rest of America.”
If you look at that photo above, it looks like the Prez is going chalk this year. But then again, so isn't the majority of the world, including myself. I just don't think any of the lower seeds have a shot this year, but of course that will be wrong come April, and we'll have four 6-seeds in the semis.

Glad Barry has so much free time to engage in puffy stupid PR shit like this with the US economy falling apart.

What an imbecile.

Well, I guess it's better off he's out somewhere workin' hard like this rather than picking winners like Tim Geithner.

Yeah let's no go down Tool Lane today, okay Wags?

But having him break down every bracket? Yeah this is a stupid PR stunt.

He's become more of a celebrity to people than leader of the country. ESPN seems to snag him whenever they want.

The guy has enough shit on his plate right now, he should be able to take some time out to fill out a bracket.

Please leave your bullshit political views to yourself.

I agree with Gmoney. What's the point? Why are they over-exposing Obama on every opportunity? If McCain won the election, I can assure you we wouldn't see a SC segment with him selecting a bracket.

"The guy has enough shit on his plate right now, he should be able to take some time out to fill out a bracket."

BULLSHIT.

He is a freaking douchebag.

Maybe he can find another foreign leader to give some cheap-ass DVDs to and embarrass himself, and us, further.

This is objectively ridiculous, regardless of politics.

What if Sarkozy, or even Bush, did this? People whined about Bush's work ethic, it's ok now to be a slacking idiot? Hoops pools are for people with too much time on their hands.

It would look foolish and stupid to world leaders when the Dow is absolutely cratering, he's not proven himself and we've got idiots at Treasury. Where are his nominees?

Goes to his competence, which is not exactly high at this point.

Sorry, I am not feeling this guy, and this shit just pisses me off.

I too agree with GMoney. If the man wants to fill out a bracket let him fill it out. Now the whole big deal that ESPN is making it out to be is something entirely different, but for goodness sakes, there's nothing wrong with engaging in a little fun time.

Hell, I would be worried if he WASN'T taking the time out to partake in leisurely activities. Do you have any clue of the stress that is involved in being the leader of the country? If he did nothing leisurely, the man would be breaking down like crazy. He's a human being, not Superman.

/Says nothing of my political views or my views about the job he is doing.
//Would defend any president, regardless of how much I loved or hated him in this same situation.

Hopefully, Obama will also give us a bracket for football.

The US is in a recession, and is quite honestly, breaking apart at some serious, serious economic faultlines.

And the President spends a day taping some shit about NCAA basketball for ESPN.

What does that say about Barry?

Oh, he's a hard worker.

Hard workers DO NOT FILL OUT NCAA BRACKETS. EVER.

That crap is for guys slacking at work.

No? This is amazing to me. He's a clown.

The Dow has lost half it's value since he won, and he's filling out stupid brackets.

You are a bitter man, Wags.

If you don't like him because he isn't working 24/7 to fix something he didn't cause, then please leave us alone to have some fun.

Wait, just how long do you think it takes to fill out a bracket, Wags?
What if the man has to take a dump? "Oh my God", says Wags, "my investments are tanking and he's in the bathroom? What's his deal?"

Calm down, Wags. Your blood pressure will thank you.

Wags...I just managed to finish 2 brackets after I got home from work.

IT CAN BE DONE!

The US economy may be falling apart...but I don't think that the fate of western civilization hinges on the time it takes to fill out a bracket. Unless you are absolutely sweating the outcome of Villanova-American...

LOL, I really don't give a shit what you guys say, this is puffy garbage.

Look at the fucking Dow!

Then look at him filling out a stupid bracket.

Yeah, inspires confidence, huh? Maybe if had done SOMETHING to stem the tide, rather than raise taxes an insane amount, I wouldn't be so critical.

I swear, he is a dope. The leader of the free world.

Unreal. You guys voted for the bungling bumbler. The *real* George Bush.

Lovely.

I can understand the anger if you're upset that ESPN is making such a big deal about this. That's understandable, for they definitley have a bit of a love affair going with Obama (and that in turn may make Brad James the happiest person on Earth come 2010) and I see how that would anger people. But every freaking moment of the man's life should not be spent doing work. For goodness sakes, as I said above, he would have a stress meltdown if he did not take leisure time and what good would he be then? This is not a question of policy or idealogy here.

And you do realize that you are criticizing Obama for wasting time like this after we have come off the heals of the president who set the record for most vacation days for any U.S. President, George W. Bush. And I guess you also must be equally outraged that George W. Bush actually had the audacity to show up to 9 baseball games during his tenure in the Oval Office. And he even threw out the first pitch of the first game on March 31, 2008 at Nationals Park. Now I don't recall the specific headlines of that day, but I highly doubt that throwing out a first pitch at a baseball game was the most important thing he could have been doing at that time as it relates to the country. Do I feel that way, no, I don't. If the president wants to enjoy himself at a ball game, then by all means, take some time and relieve some stress and have a blast! He'll be more relaxed that way and I'd rather my president relaxed than a stressed out, nervous wreck.

On a more personal note, regardless of my opinion of the president, all of this humanizes the president for me to an extent. I like it when my President takes the time to go to baseball games in the case of Bush and fill out brackets in Obama's case, it humanizes them for me and I feel like I can relate to them. It's sort of like, "hey, the president likes something I like, that's pretty cool." It's definitley something that should not be an everyday occurance, but every once in a while it is something that I would encourage, and quite frankly, welcome. Besides, can you honestly say with a straight face that the few hours that a president spends at a sporting event or filling out a bracket and shooting a subsequent 5-minute segment for ESPN will have any long-term at all on this country?

"he would have a stress meltdown if he did not take leisure time and what good would he be then"

60 days into office, things are NOT running smoothly, he's playing a stupid office game.

Sorry, that's NOT cool. that's didn't take 5 min, trust me. He's not going to appear on TV without preparation.

Go look at the Dow and tell me it's ok for the Pres to be a slacker. Things are running well huh?
