Brian Collins Is A Free Agent

Monday, June 22, 2009

It's random how things work out during the day. Bob Costas says "BGTD" on-air, and then you find out the news that the original person who uttered the term....just got fired (frowny face). Brian Collins, of "Boom Goes The Dynamite" fame, has been let go from his job in Waco, Texas. From Deadspin....

Just two days after Bob Costas used Brian Collins' signature catch phrase, Busted Coverage published an item pointing out that Collins' days as a Waco newscaster might be over. We can confirm that Collins' gig has, indeed, been dynamited.

Collins' "Meet The Team" biography was taken down at KXXV-TV, the ABC affiliate where he worked, and the link to it is no longer active. Collins' last report is datelined May 15, and it was about six Texas car dealerships losing their Chrysler franchises.

When we called the station's newsroom and asked to speak with Collins, we were told that he "no longer works here." The polite woman who answered our call didn't know when he had left the station and had no further information about his future plans. (If you know anything more, please send it in to tips@deadspin.com.)
Please to be emailing awfulannouncing@gmail.com as well. One of these days, I will hunt you down Mr. Collins, and we will conduct the interview to end all interviews. Until then my friend....godspeed in your future endeavors.

Bob Costas Is The Ventriloquist Dummy You See On Al Roker's Lap

Saw this Saturday afternoon during the U.S. Open coverage on NBC, and couldn't help but laugh. Not only did Bob Costas look like he was a dummy sitting on Al Roker's lap, but he even decided to throw in a "BGTD" for comedic relief....

Such a goofy looking setup there. Not sure why Costas decided to throw in the "Dynamite" comment, but I don't think that will ever get old.

What an amazing trip it's been for Brian Collins, and the one simple phrase that gave us one of the funniest Sports related clips we've ever seen. The phrase has been lampooned on multiple tv shows, including Family Guy, but it has now seen its greatest moment. Yes, "BGTD" was uttered on stage by none other than Will Smith! Here's the clip....

Hilarious. I wonder what percentage, of those in attendance, actually got the joke? My bet is on 4.5%. It's also hilarious that a phrase the was once uttered in panic, can now actually save you, when you flub a line. Thank you, Brian Collins.

"Boom Goes The Dynamite" On Family Guy

Monday, December 08, 2008

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has to have a thing with Sports Announcers, because this is the second time he's gone to that well. First it was a jab towards Tim McCarver and now it's the use of the Brian Collins' phrase, "Boom Goes The Dynamite". Via The World of Issac....

A little bit cheesy, and about four years too late, but still a bit humorous. As soon as they work in Joe Morgan, the triumvirate will be complete!

Brian "Boom Goes The Dynamite" Collins Is Back And Better Than Ever

Friday, August 22, 2008

Everyone remembers Brian Collins right? He who provided the world with perhaps the biggest on-air trainwreck in the history of televised news? "Boom Goes The Dynamite"? Okay good. Well Collins has actually recovered from his on-air breakdown and found employment in Waco, Texas. He is working at local station KXXV as a reporter and it seems like he's doing well with his life.

Now I know what you're saying. Why didn't AA report on this yesterday when everyone else had it? Well folks, that's because I wanted KXXV to post some video of Brian's work at the station. Here's his report on teachers carrying handguns in schools!

I missed you greatly Brian. It's good to see that you've worked on your recoveries, but still have that stammering flow that endeared you to millions across the country. It's good to have you back and we'll be watching!

This is Tom and he's doing his first on-air report for Huntington University located in Indiana. Tom wasn't exactly prepared.....

I think you'd be a good producer Tom, and GO FORESTERS!

It's not Boom Goes the Dynamite...but it's close. (On 205th)
