Monday Night Football Week One Live-Blog: Eagles-Cowboys Second Half

Monday, September 15, 2008

You just knew that picture was coming didn't you? It works on so many levels. First Romo is wearing the never good look of a kangol/newsboy cap and then his trainwreck of a girlfriend is just adding to the awkwardness. Good times. It's 30-24 Eagles at the half and let's hope this one isn't going to slow down in the second half.

"Was it an interception?" - Chris Berman on the Cutler fumble.

That's one thing that it definitley wasn't. (Via JFein)

As an Eagles fan I'm extremely nervous. The end of this game could be tight... (Via Mark)

10:38- I think that's a safe bet. Here comes the second half. Dallas gets the ball. Felix Jones with yet another nice run back and he makes it out to the 35. Dallas tries to slow it down with a run, but Barber breaks it for about 20 yards and into Eagles territory. Romo scrambles and throws it away on second down. Penalty on the Cowboys as well moves it back 10.

1st and 20 and Romo awkwardly throws the ball away after feeling the pressure again. Barber is wrapped up on second down and that's followed by a toss up in the air to Bennett. Dawkins nails him though and breaks it up. Cowboys punt into the endzone so it'll be Eagles ball at their 20....make that the 10 after a block in the back.

A re-kick for some reason and the ball is basically in the same spot as it would have been. Anyway, Westbrook goes nowhere on first and Jackson follows it up with a drop. 3rd and long....Westbrook on the screen but it's short. Two back to back punts! How about that.

10:45- Romo to Witten for seven on first down and Barber adds two more on second. 3rd and short....Felix Jones picks up the rest.

"It's just so easy if you're Jerry Jones to give clothing to Felix Jones and you don't have to take out the labels because they're made exclusively for Mr. Jones.- Tony Kornheiser
"Glad you got that in."- Ron Jaworski
"I've been wating the whole game on that one."- Tony Kornheiser

He can't think that that is funny. Dumb penalty by the Eagles on a false start and the Cowboys pick up another first down.

"It's Football Tony! This isn't a Tennis match."- Ron Jaworski

Barber with a couple of carries and the Cowboys have it at the Philly 15. 3rd and 4....

Touchdown Dallas! Romo to Barber and the Cowboys take the lead again 31-30.

Another crowd shot and another 400lb Cowboys fan. Thanks ESPN! (Via Lammy742)

Does Kornheiser come up with jokes in advance? That Felix Jones joke was bad. (Via Anon)

That had to have been planned out.

10:55- Eagles ball at their own 26. Good move by McNabb in the pocket and a dump to Buckhalter gets seven. Westbrook picks up the rest. McNabb escapes again and finds Baskett for a few....

"What does he do? He puts the biscuit in the Baskett."- Tony Kornheiser

I swear he's just trying to piss everyone off at this point. First down on a Westbrook run and dive at the 50. McNabb down the middle and Zach Thomas bats the ball away with a no-look swat. Jackson with the catch and he has another Iggle first. Westbrook fumbles! Gets it back though somehow.

Tirico correctly calls it a McNabb fumble after a bad exchange. He's like an eagle that guy. McNabb with another sick move in the pocket and then underhands it to Westbrook. Just a great play....and a 15-yard facemask to boot. Eagles are inside the 20.

End of a rather quick third and the score is 31-30 'Boys.

Now we're comparing McNabb to Brett Favre. (Via JFein)

It never ends! McNabb to Lewis....down to the one....

Second effort and Westbrook is in! 37-31 Eagles.

Kornheiser really has the gall to act irritated when Jaworski brings up the Arena League one time, while he'd mention Favre on every snap if possible? Unbelievable. (Via CB)

11:12- Jones has his worst return of the night but still gets it to the 30. First down Dallas. Incomplete on first down but Barber follows it up with a screen and takes it all the way down into Eagles territory.

"Do you know how."- Tony Kornheiser
"Yes."- Mike Tirico
"We haven't even mentioned Jessica Simpson."- Tony Kornheiser

More Tony guffawing in regards to Jerry Jones after actually bringing up Simpson. Romo misses Witten down the middle by an inch and it's 2nd and 10. Felix Jones gets a few and then goes backwards. Third and long....Witten catches it but he's well short. FG attempt for Folk....

Good! 3 point game now....37-34 Eagles.

Tony- please stop spewing your love for the cowboys. As bad as the announcing is for this game, we could have mike mike and mike. **shudders at the mere thought** (Via Anon)

Good point.

You think its bad this week.. just think of next week.. Madden has the Packers without Favre.... Kornheiser has the Jets with Favre... be prepared.. (Via Anon)

Life just isn't fair.

11:23- Demps runs back the kickoff all the way into Dallas territory and both Special Teams coaches should be fired on Tuesday. McNabb to Jackson on first down and DeSean is over 100 yards again. Donovan to Greg Lewis and that's a first.

FUMBLE! Westbrook gives it up and Ratliff picks it up for Dallas. That's going to come back to haunt them.

"Donovan does a double move on him. He puts it in then pulls it out then tries to put it back in again."- Ron Jaworski (Via Mal)

Romo hits Crayton out at midfield for a first and there's 8 minutes left. Barber for one yard and then Romo to Austin to make it 3rd and 3. Austin again....first down. Romo to Witten! 33 yards and it'll be first and goal at the five.

Romo to T.O. and he's manhandled by Samuel. Ahh the ball was tipped. No foul. 2nd and Goal. No one was even near that ball....no way was that tipped. The refs get it right now. 1st and goal at the one. Barber....No!

Barber....Yes! 41-37 Dallas with 4:35 left.

Can somebody do a Tonya Harding on Kornheiser so we don't have to listen to him on MNF? (Via Anon)

If Kornheiser's alleged stalker is reading this: I'll buy the lead pipe, you do the rest. (Via CB)

Hahaha. Good combo there.

11:39- "I said something before which I shouldn't have said, I apologize for it. Not my first mistake, undoubtedly won't be my last, but a 100% apology."- Tony Kornheiser

Huh? The only thing I could think of was the laundry comment but I took that as just a bad joke, not anything offensive. Interesting.

McNabb incomplete on first down and then a screen to Westbrook goes nowhere. Add an illegal block to that and it'll be 2nd and 18. Emmitt watching on the sideline....McNabb hits LJ Smith and it'll be 3rd and 8......

Incomplete to Westbrook. Here comes a punt. Dallas' D stepped up for that one. Pacman on the return and there's a block in the back. Dallas ball at their own 21. Barber blasts for a few yards and Philly calls timeout. Barber gets a few more and it'll be 3rd and 3.....

Wide open is Barber! Romo misses him!!! Philly has a chance and the clock stops with the incomplete pass. Jackson on the return but a hold on Demps will bring it back.

Here we go. 2:36 left and McNabb with the ball. Greg Lewis juggles it and it's incomplete at the marker. McNabb on the scramble and that should take us to the two minute warning...

NO! Westbrook on the draw before the warning and he picks it up as well as a 15-yard facemask. Philly's ball with a first down at midfield.

We're back from the break. McNabb back to pass....SACKED! Loss of four.....1:30 to go. McNabb had space to run, but it's incomplete. He had at least a first down if he pulled it down and ran. 3rd and 14....McNabb scrambles and he goes down! Demarcus Ware gets him!!! Great play....just didn't give up.

Here it is. 4th and 17....A hook and ladder play?!?!?! That was a horrible call and that'll do it. Cowboys win.

Final: Dallas 41 - Philadelphia 37

That was one hell of a game and a fun one to live-blog. Hope you all had fun as well and thanks for commenting. See you tomorrow with commentary and videos.

"Can I say it? How 'bout dem Cowboys?!- Tony Kornheiser

Ugh. I just can't handle him anymore at this point.

Jessica Simpson Riles Up Philly Fans On Good Morning America

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

My Fox Philly is claiming that Jessica Simpson "insulted Eagles fans" on Good Morning America this morning, and while I wouldn't quite go that far, she did talk some friendly trash to Philly Fans during an GMA conert in NYC. Jessica was promoting her new Country album released on 9-9 (How Cute!) when Host Robin Roberts brought up the topic of Football. Here's My Fox's account of the "insult" and an accompanying video....

The singer seems to think the curse is over when she issued a warning to the Eagles Tuesday morning on Good Morning America.

Simpson yelled out "Go Cowboys!" during her performance Tuesday and then adding her warning to Philadelphia Eagles fans, "That's next week! We're gonna kick your butts, too!"

It was Dec. 16, 2007 when the "curse of Jessica Simpson" was coined after the Cowboys lost to the Eagles 10-6. Her boyfriend, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, played poorly with Simpson at the game.

Now that seemed all in fun to me, but I'm sure Tony and his teammates are cringed when they saw it go down this morning. That would have also been a great clip for Hard Knocks, but oh well, and we'll see if the curse holds true this coming Monday. Either way, keep it up Jess!

The Cowboys' Official Soap Opera Starts This Week

Monday, August 04, 2008

So Hard Knocks' fifth season gets underway this Wednesday with the Dallas Cowboys the centerpiece of the training camp documentary. I presumed when the selection was announced that HBO wanted as much drama as possible, but they're saying that the ultimate goal isn't to turn the show into something that would air on E! Entertainment....

The inside-football training camp show seems to have called an audible, going Hollywood with the characters from "America's Team." But Ross Greenburg is trying hard to sack that notion.

"I'm telling you, we are going to attack this 'Hard Knocks' the same way we have attacked all of the other 'Hard Knocks,' " the HBO Sports president says.

"We're not going to make this an E! half-hour entertainment show on Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson."

"Ninety-five percent of our efforts will be focused on what happens on the field and in the locker room," Sabol says.

And Greenburg maintains that's the right call for this five-week run. "All I can say is, 'Trust us.' "
I call shenanigans but I guess only time will tell. I personally don't think you can have it both ways because hardcore fans will hate the soap opera aspect and the fans looking for drama will hate all the Football.

In other news, it's good to see that Jessica Simpson isn't still a distraction. From The Sun via SbB....
The Dukes Of Hazzard actress uses a webcam to transmit red-hot routines to Dallas Cowboys’ TONY ROMO — to keep alive their romance while they are apart.

A pal said: “Jess has no problem showing Tony her favourite ‘PUSSYCAT DOLLS’ routine. She will dance in front of her camera until she makes her man happy.”

“Jess does get paranoid, making sure Tony doesn’t have any of his Cowboys buddies peeking in on the show.”
I guess it'll be interesting one way or another!

Two (Count Them) Two Posts On Jessica Simpson In One!

Wednesday, December 19, 2007

I take great pride in trying to provide you the readers with information you probably haven't seen anywhere else. I also take pride in not beating something into the ground (Sean Taylor's passing excluded), so it's with great displeasure I bring you these two bits of info on Jessica Simpson. Just kidding, they're hilarious...that's why I'm posting them.

First up (From TBL via The Dallas Morning News), Terrell Owens hates her.....

"Right now, Jessica Simpson is not a fan favorite in this locker room or in Texas Stadium," T.O. said. "I think with everything that has happened, and obviously the way Tony played and the comparison between her and Carrie Underwood, I think a lot of people feel like she's probably taking his focus away.

"Other than that, she was at the top of my list until last week. I've got a message for her when we make the playoffs," T.O. said. "Just stay tuned."
Second, Jessica can't count (Via The Chicago Sun Times)....
According to a good Big D source, Romo has been told to put his romantic life on the back burner at this critical juncture near the end of the regular NFL season. I also understand that at least one team official has suggested to Simpson that it would be in Tony's best interest,'' if the couple cooled it for a few weeks.

Simpson, however, is laughing it all off, claiming she is just as anxious as other Cowboys fans to see her guy lead the team to the 50th Super Bowl championship.
Ah....now that was fun wasn't it? Let's never mention that hussy's name in these parts again okay? Okay!
