Matt Winer Officially Picked Up By Turner Sports
Thursday, January 07, 2010

It was a rumored before the holidays that Matt Winer had done his last ESPN broadcast (credit to Bill Simmons Twitter), and that he was heading to Turner Sports to do Basketball. Well today we found out that not only is that true, but he'll also be working MLB, Golf and NASCAR for the network....
Turner Sports announced today that they have signed veteran broadcaster Matt Winer to a multi-year agreement to serve as a studio host on NBA TV multiple nights a week and various Turner Sports properties which include Major League Baseball, NASCAR, the NBA, and professional golf. Winer will appear in studio for various programs on NBA TV throughout the regular season, including the network’s shoulder programming for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game and coverage for the NBA Playoffs and NBA Draft. Winer, who is scheduled to start the week of January 18, will also contribute to NBA.com.It's great to see TNT/Turner Sports expanding their studio team(s) in this way. Winer has always done a great job on Basketball, and I think he'll work out in the other Sports just fine. It's also interesting to see ESPN lose another high profile anchor from their stable, and to finally get some competition. At this pace, they'll be left with Chris Berman, and a bunch of semi-talented ex-players, for their studio shows.
“We are very happy to welcome Matt to the Turner Sports family and look forward to his debut on NBA TV,” said Jeff Behnke, SVP and executive producer for Turner Sports. “Matt is the epitome of professionalism and we are excited to add his talents to our telecasts.”
“Turner Sports has given me a fantastic opportunity to grow as a broadcaster,” said Winer. “I look forward to focusing on their core sports and working with some of the most respected professionals in TV. I can't wait to get going in Atlanta.”
Previously, Winer spent more than eight years with ESPN serving as a SportsCenter anchor and studio host for numerous shows including NBA Fastbreak, NBA Coast-to-Coast, NBA Shootaround and coverage of MLB, NASCAR and the NFL. Winer was also the update anchor for ABC’s College Football Scoreboard.

Marv vs. 50 Cent Update
Monday, November 23, 2009

Last week, all the buzz was the alleged run-in between Marv Albert and rapper 50 Cent. There were reports of a verbal confrontation and some even said that there was a potential punch thrown in the fracas. Well over the weekend, Marv came out and said that not only was the punch a fabrication, the whole incident was. Via USA Today....
At issue is what happened when Albert last week was getting set to appear on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live. As he was walking backstage to his dressing room he "heard something" that he thought were people "kidding around." The raised voices, he thinks, came from someone with rapper 50 Cent— another Kimmel guest — wanting to use a phone in Albert's room. "But I didn't even see the guys and don't even think there was a scuffle."Well that solves that. It seemed a little far fetched, but crazier things have happened. I'm just happy that we don't have to worry about Albert being gunned down in Vegas after a boxing match. Whew.
Still, the diminutive TNT NBA announcer says he and friends and family found various online accounts of "stuff that never happened" — included that he and 50 Cent had a fight. "I kept reading about new things that never happened. Maybe it will keep going until Jimmy Kimmel gets punched."

Your NBA Announcing Schedule For The Week
Tuesday, October 27, 2009

The NBA Season officially tips off tonight with a set of four games, two of which will air on TNT. One great Eastern Conference matchup starts the night, then is followed by a matchup that was supposed to be Kobe versus rookie Blake Griffin. Unfortunately the Clippers Curse bit Griffin with a broken kneecap to start the season, so you'll just have to live with a ring ceremony and a blowout. Here's the rest of the schedule for the week....

Rainn Wilson Is TNT Baskeball's New Pitch Man
Wednesday, October 07, 2009
Photos of this video shoot came out a few weeks ago, but TNT PR has just released the first videos of Rainn Wilson doing spots for TNT Basketball with the likes of Dwight Howard, Gilbert Arenas, Derrick Rose and Deron Williams. The premise is that Rainn is a personal cabbie for the NBA stars, and of course....hilarity ensues. Here is the Dwight Howard one....
Enh. I liked the Jack Sikma line, but the rest was rather bland. The Gilbert one better deliver!!!

Reggie Miller Gets Put In His Place
Monday, August 10, 2009

It's no secret that Reggie Miller enjoys the ladies, but apparently he's been enjoying the married ones just a bit too much. A certain someone decided to send Reggie a message via an aerial advertiser, and all of Southern California was able to see it. Via the Daily Mail....
A famous basketball legend has been given a very public dressing down.Well then. I've seen some things in my time, but that might just take the cake. Reggie is usually seen combing the beaches of SC, so maybe the point got across. Just crazy.
A banner warning ex-NBA star Reggie Miller off married women was flown over several southern California beaches this weekend.
It is not known who forked out for this expensive warning but it comes after Miller allegedly pursued his neighbour Ali Kay - who is engaged to designer Diane von Furstenburg's son Alex.
According to a restraining order, that was never filed, Miller, who played for the Indiana Pacers, met Ms Kay at a party in July last year.
In March of this year he then bumped into her at a grocery store, then waited outside for an hour until she left, before following her up a motorway.
Former NBA basketball player Reggie Miller
He also allegedly harassed her by phone, including sending her 53 text messages over the course of less than four hours.
