Reggie Miller Gets Put In His Place

Monday, August 10, 2009

It's no secret that Reggie Miller enjoys the ladies, but apparently he's been enjoying the married ones just a bit too much. A certain someone decided to send Reggie a message via an aerial advertiser, and all of Southern California was able to see it. Via the Daily Mail....

A famous basketball legend has been given a very public dressing down.

A banner warning ex-NBA star Reggie Miller off married women was flown over several southern California beaches this weekend.

It is not known who forked out for this expensive warning but it comes after Miller allegedly pursued his neighbour Ali Kay - who is engaged to designer Diane von Furstenburg's son Alex.

According to a restraining order, that was never filed, Miller, who played for the Indiana Pacers, met Ms Kay at a party in July last year.

In March of this year he then bumped into her at a grocery store, then waited outside for an hour until she left, before following her up a motorway.

He also allegedly harassed her by phone, including sending her 53 text messages over the course of less than four hours.
Well then. I've seen some things in my time, but that might just take the cake. Reggie is usually seen combing the beaches of SC, so maybe the point got across. Just crazy.

Tales From The News Desk: Omaha Is Awesome!

Monday, June 15, 2009

I always find it hilarious when reporters get pissed at fans during on-site reports. For some reason they think people aren't going to go crazy when they go live, and the decide to get all upitty. One of those people is Mike Irwin, a reporter from Northwest Arkanas, and here is his exchange with SEC fans in Omaha....

Oh come on, Mikey. You don't need no stinking security! Just drink a few before your next report, and join in the fun!!!

Chad Johnson Is Getting A Face Tattoo?

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

So Chad Ocho Cinco just announced that he is currently getting a face tattoo on his Twitter page. I'm not really sure what this is supposed to be (maybe Florida?), but it looks to actually be true. He's officially lost it.

Update: I guess we have our answer....

Michael Strahan Was Reportedly "Wary" Of His Girlfriend's "Business Trips"

Thursday, March 05, 2009

I usually pass on stories that involve media member's personal lives, but this one plays out like a bad movie, so I had to share. Michael Strahan has been dating Nicole Murphy since his divorce in 2007, but lately he hasn't been exactly trusting her. Which is why he installed a tracking device on her Range Rover. Of course, Strahan was right about said indiscretions, and after Murphy took her SUV into the shop with her new lover and had the device removed, the "s" hit the fan....

Things came to a head Feb. 20, after Spencer and Murphy took her Range Rover to a luxury dealership in Thousand Oaks, Calif.. Mechanics quickly discovered the tracking apparatus.

"This is the second tracking device he's had put in her car," one source said.

"This one was found behind the front dashboard." Murphy and Spencer went to have lunch while the tracer - which one source said provided up-to-the-minute location status - was removed.

Seconds later, Strahan barged into the garage, "yelling and screaming," a source said.

Spotting Murphy's car with the tracking device exposed, Strahan walked over, ripped it off the dashboard and stormed out of the shop.
Well that's just about the craziest thing I've heard this month. It seriously sounds like an episode of "Cheaters". This story did come from the NY Post, so remember that it might not be entirely true. It's definitely worth a read though, even if it's made up.

Blogger Gets ESPN Tattoo (Spoiler Alert: It's Lil Wayne)

Friday, February 20, 2009

So the man that won four Grammys, and who moonlights as a blogger for ESPN the Mag, recently decided that he needed to prove he actually worked for the "Leader". How could Lil Wayne pull that off without carrying a cache of his columns around? I know! Let your millionth tattoo be an ESPN one!!!

From ESPN the Mag via SbB....

I’ve been telling people, “Man I got a blog on ESPN,” and they go, “Yeah, boy, but you’re latest song is crazy!” and I’m like, “I know, but did you see my blog?” I am so excited to have this opportunity. You don’t understand. I got ESPN tattooed on my arm. I’ve had it for at least three months now, so that should show you how seriously I’m gonna take this. I know some people out there don’t think it’s really me, but you have to prove a lot of things when you’re an entertainer, so I’m used to it.

Wow. That's dedication right there. Hopefully ESPN doesn't drop him like an ex-Girlfriend, and he has to get it lasered off, or even worse....have the artist change it to another network's logo when he gets picked up as a free agent. Sort of like Andre Rison's Falcons tattoo.

Yep, Mike Tyson Is Still Crazy

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

Very odd video found over at Sports Crackle Pop this afternoon, and I really don't have words to describe it. Mike Tyson is at the Sundance Film Festival promoting a self-titled documentary, and during a speech he decided to use the perfect language to describe how he feels about the movie....

"I'm afraid of how much pussy, and how much money I'm going to get, and it's going to lead to a lot of problems. That really bothers me a lot. It sounds funny, but it's really detrimental to me."- Mike Tyson

What in the hell? His insanity knows no bounds, but I'm glad he's back in our world.

ESPN's Extreme New Year's Eve Party Is Back For Year Two

Wednesday, November 19, 2008

Last year around this time, I mentioned that ESPN was planning on airing an "Extreme New Years Rockin' Eve". Well the stunts at the time, (a world-record motorcycle jump the length of a football field), and a rocking performance by Angels and Airwaves, were such a success....that they're airing a second one this year!

ESPN’s popular New Year’s Eve show of a year ago will return with two familiar faces and two thrilling events. Red Bull: New Year. No Limits. will once again feature motocross star Robbie “Maddo” Maddison attempting a jump unlike any other while Rhys Millen will seek redemption for the successful truck flip that eluded him last year. Red Bull: New Year No Limits hosted by Joe Tessitore will be televised live from Las Vegas immediately following the network’s coverage of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl (approximately 11 p.m. ET) on ESPN/ESPN HD. Also, the show will be simulcast live on ESPN360.com.

Having broken the world record for a motorcycle jump (322’ 7.5”) during the 2007 telecast with a leap over the length of a football field, Maddison will attempt a more finessed, but equally challenging jump this time. He will attempt to ascend with his bike more than 120 feet high to land on the top of the 96-foot-high replica Arc de Triomphe in front of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel. Upon completing the jump, he will then freefall 50 feet off the Arc to a ramp.

Expected to join his history-making colleague, Millen will seek to accomplish the first back flip of an off-road truck in a location TBD. Millen’s feat demands the truck travel a distance of 80 feet at a height of 50 feet to complete the rotation. During his last practice before the 2007 telecast, Millen overshot his landing, resulting in injury, damage to his vehicle and his withdrawal from the event. Millen is recovered and more determined than ever.
I poked fun at the idea last year, but I have to admit that I'm intrigued with this year's stunts. Both sound extremely dangerous, and both have the potential of serious injury and/or death. That's always a great combo when you're trying to get viewers!

Plus, any program that cause Mark Schlereth to crash on a dirtbike while promoting that he's hosting it....has my approval.

Yep, LT Is Still Insane

Thursday, November 06, 2008

FSN sent me this very short clip of Lawrence Taylor's appearance on BDSSP recently and in thirteen seconds the man will blow your mind. John Salley decided to ask him what he would do if there wasn't "order" in his locker room and watch his response....

Good lord that was hard. We all know that LT is cut from a different cloth, but that was just wrong.

Hawk Harrelson Blames The White Sox's Inefficiencies On "Negative Sound Waves"

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Over the years, Hawk Harrelson has some crazy things when it comes to his White Sox. Being the most homerific announcer in Baseball doesn't help things and neither does blaming the teams road woes on varying sound waves within certain stadiums. From Sox Machine via Big League Stew

Hawk (revealed his) totally insane theory on how home field advantage is grounded in the way that sound waves affect the subconscious minds of players.

According to Hawk, who stated that he has been formulating this theory for thirty years, the subconscious 'eats whatever the conscious feeds it,' and when the sound waves in a stadium "bounce around" the inside of a player's skull, it creates "positive vibes" or "negative vibes," depending on whether that player is home or away. There you have it folks--the science of home field advantage.

Now I don't know the intricacies of how these elements (vibes, sound waves, the conscious and subconscious mind) interact — perhaps I wasn't listening closely enough — but Hawk rambled on about this for the duration of half an inning. The hilarious part is the fact that this wasn't enough for DJ, who, after a commercial break, brought it up again and asked Hawk to delve deeper into his theory. "Now I don't know anything about sound waves," Hawk clarified before summarizing his theory once again. Really, Hawk? No formal training in acoustics? He was probably too busy studying how the conscious "feeds the subconscious." Whatever, though. I was just waiting for Hawk to command DJ to board the Spruce Moose at gunpoint.
Wow. I don't even know where to even start with that one. I mean noises can obviously distract players, but "positive and negative vibes" whether you're on the road? That's a little too "New Wave" for me. Hopefully Steve Stone can rein Hawk in a bit next season before he starts wearing tin-foil hats into the booth.

ESPN To Air A Marathon Of Hoops To Start The College Basketball Season

ESPN has always done a great job when covering the opening of the College Basketball season. There are multiple "Midnight Madnesses" and a bunch of good tournaments and matchups. Well they're trying something different this year and they've dubbed it the "College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon". What is it? Well it's basically 14! College Basketball games in 23 hours starting at midnight on November 18th. Here's the background from ESPN....

The games open at midnight ET with national championship game runner-up Memphis hosting Massachusetts, where Tigers head coach John Calipari once coached. It wraps up with the two winningest programs in college hoops history -- Kentucky and North Carolina -- meeting in Chapel Hill at 9 p.m. ET.

There are games featuring teams in 14 conferences and one women's game (Iowa at Kansas, 2 p.m. ET on ESPN). It also includes four NIT semifinals and two games in the CBE Classic, including defending national champion Kansas hosting Florida Gulf Coast (9 p.m. ET, ESPN U).

Every game on ESPN and ESPN2 will be simulcast on ESPN360.com.

There will be two studio shows, including a four-hour special beginning at 6 a.m. ET. College GameDay will be in Chapel Hill at 8 p.m. ET.
That is just about the greatest (and craziest) idea I've ever heard. The whole event even gets a lead-in from Monday Night Football. The matchup that night isn't the best in the Browns and Bills, but it should still keep some East Coasters up well into the night. Here's the schedule and I'm seriously considering a 24-hour live-blog for this thing....

Tuesday, November 18th:

Midnight: UMass at Memphis (ESPN)
2 am: Fresno St. at St. Mary's (ESPN)
4 am: Idaho St. at Hawaii (ESPN)
6 am: College Hoops Tip-Off Special (ESPN)
10 am: Penn at Drexel (ESPN)
