ESPN's Tribute To Barry Melrose
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
I passed the story along to you back at the end of May, but it's now official (and you doubted me...tsk tsk). Barry Melrose is leaving ESPN to coach the Tampa Bay Lightning and ESPN is giving him a heroes departure. Every Sports Center anchor is praising his work as they talk about the story and here is a little clip they put together that they've dubbed "The Best of Barry"....
I know that Hockey has taken a backseat over at ESPN as of late but the best thing they ever did was keep Melrose around. He loves the game and did so even when the network he worked for didn't. Good for you Barry and good luck.

At the very least every ESPN personality should all wear their hair in a slicked back mullet.
4 bucks, a buck a side...
awesome.
Even as a guy who doesn't really care about hockey, I always liked Melrose and the passion that he brought covering his sport.
I'm happy for the man, but it sucks to see him leave ESPN because now it will never be on ESPN. Oh well.

I think I can make a prediction on Barry's replacement. Trevor Linden was mentioned on SC after his retirement as possibly joining the network.
We know await the triumphant return of Brian Engblom and his version of the skullet to ESPN. Either him or Kristen Bell can do a segment every week.
*now, not know
/I'm a douche
for once ESPN does something classy for the sport of hockey.
can't wait till they go back to showing arena football league highlights
/sarcasm
Final nail for hockey on ESPN. Even if they got it back it wouldn't be the same which means it would probably be worse off.
It would be like if NBC were to get the NBA back, you know they won't play that theme and get the same folks.
you call that a tribute?
the dude SUCKED! so he had a slight personality. it's freaking hockey. espn won't miss him and betcha they get ray ferraro to replace him. or are you going to be the FIRST to predict someone else AA?
