Keith Hernandez Likes Him Some Kitty Cats

Thursday, July 24, 2008

This was from Tuesday night, and I'm sorry for not posting on it yesterday, but it's worth a look see. During the sixth inning of the Mets-Phils game a cat decided to run onto the field. Listen as Keith Hernandez goes nuts over the pretty kitty. From TSB via The Fightins....

"OMG!!!!1! Did YOU SEE those white pawz?!!1? Sooooooo cute!" White Mittens Keith? Seriously???

Keith Hernandez Gets Into It With Jose Reyes

Monday, July 07, 2008

SNY's Keith Hernandez and Mets SS Jose Reyes almost came to blows after arguing on the team plane and both had to be restrained this past weekend. Hernandez had said that the Mets were "babying" Reyes and apparently that didn't sit well with the player....

A team source described the situation aboard the plane as "very heated." One player told The Post that he thought Reyes and the popular former Met - now an analyst for the club's SNY TV network - were close to exchanging punches until others stepped in.

Reyes said yesterday he was angry at Hernandez after numerous friends and relatives told him Hernandez accused the Mets of "babying" Reyes during the broadcast of Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees New York Yankees at Shea Stadium.

"He got his point [across] and I got mine," Reyes, when asked to describe the confrontation, told The Post before he drove in three runs in the Mets' 11-1 victory over the Cardinals last night. "I'm not too happy with the way he's been talking."
Good times! I'm actually surprised this hasn't more with players and announcers in New York recently. The Mets are just in a terrible spot right now, and while I'm glad SNY is being honest, it seems to be a bit over-the-top at times. I have a feeling that this isn't the last were going to hear of this though.

Gary Carter Adresses Keith Hernandez's Comments (Sort Of)

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Gary Carter was on Mike & Mike this morning to address the whole campaigning for Willie Randolph's job and addressed among other things the words that former teammate and SNY analyst Keith Hernandez had to say about him......

It was a pretty standard apology, and he did a good job of deflecting the Hernandez thing, but the whole "media blew it out of proportion" thing doesn't sit well with me. I now completely understand what Keith Hernandez was saying about him being unconscious because the guy just doesn't realize what he's saying out loud.

I don't blame the guy for wanting to get back in the Majors, but the whole campaigning thing (let's be honest....he did) came off as pretty classless.

What Is Going On With The Mets And Their Announcers?

Monday, May 26, 2008

It was pretty crazy with SNY and the Mets last week as Willie Randolph took on the announcers, but this takes it to the next level. Keith Hernandez got on former teammate Gary Carter for openly pursuing the head coaching job and he had some words for Carter on-air yesterday. Via Newsday....

"I have great respect for Gary as a player," said Hernandez, now a TV analyst. "He's a Hall of Famer. When Johnny Bench left the game, he was the premier catcher in the National League.

"But that being said, and I've kept quiet for such a long time, but for the people out there listening, just go in the dictionary and look up 'unconscious' and you'll find a picture of Gary Carter.

"I know that's strong, but it just happens too many times and it's just, you're walking around unconscious."
Play-by-play man Gary Cohen also lambasted Carter for his comments and all of this going on while the Mets are just 3 and 7 in their last ten. I think it's about time for everyone to try and stop distracting the team and just call the games, but it's entertaining none the less.

Someone Call The Jerky Boys, SNY Is Taking Callers During Mets Games

Thursday, April 03, 2008

I pray that this catches on around the major leagues. SNY took callers during the eighth inning of last night's Mets win, but analyst (I'm) Keith Hernandez is not happy with the decision at all....

The possibilites are now limitless. Jose Reyes dawdles coming out of the box in the first inning? Dial up Gary Cohen and rip the Mets shortsop. Willie Randolph makes a suspect late-game pitching change? Call Ron Darling and whine to him. Carlos Delgado looks like a stiff trying to get around on an inside pitch? Phone Keith Hernandez and ask him how it feels getting "old" in the batter's box.

"You want to do this in a 5-4 game with the bases loaded and a 3-2 count on some hitter? Do you want to do it then?" an incredulous Hernandez asked Thursday. "That would get in the way (of the game). You don't want to do anything to interfere with a game that's remotely up in the air. ... (But) it's not going to be my decision to make whether we (take calls) during a game."
Considering the Mets were winning eleven to nothing at the time I guess it was a good idea, but I'm with Kirk on this one. There's no way I want a kid from the Bronx calling during a tie game in September. I think this could work as long as they don't over do it. Now if we can only get ESPN to do this so I can call and tell Joe Morgan he's lost his mind.

I Wonder If Keith Hernandez Will Send Flowers

Sunday, April 29, 2007

Remember last season when New York Mets broadcaster Keith Hernandez caught sight of a young lady in the San Diego Padres dugout and expressed his concern regarding her presence in the holiest of all holy places? Though blatantly sexist, the remarks ("I won't say that women belong in the kitchen, but they don't belong in the dugout" is my personal favorite) were noteworthy in that they presented the best known instance of a real life "I'm Keith Hernandez" moment.

The 33-year-old interloper woman , sports therapist Kelly Calabrese, won't have to worry about revisiting the controversy or offending Hernandez's delicate sensibilities when the Mets visit San Diego in mid-July, because she won't be with the team. Why not? She'll be home doing what women are supposed to do in The World According To Keith: cooking, cleaning and having babies.

Well, at least the last one is true. Calabrese and her husband are expecting their first child, a boy, in early August, which means she will finish up her season with the team in mid-June (apparently, flying is not recommended during the last six weeks of pregnancy). If the couple had any sense of humor, they would've told the Associated Press that they planned to name the baby Keith, but unfortunately they don't.

So to recap - my kid is due in mid-July, Calabrese's is due in early August, Bridget Moynahan's should be due sometime in August...I am totally gonna figure out a way to get a play group together. I hope it's just like this.
