Your Most Recent Sports Scandal Brought To You By Your Favorite Emo Band
Wednesday, July 25, 2007
I know this is getting a little nit-picky, but it still made me laugh (click photo for larger image)....
Dance Dance! Blah Blah blah blah blah blah!!! Rock! For really though...Fall Out Boy is everywhere. I don't blame ESPN because it's an ad, but it's still a little much.
Being the ever clever (see, that rhymed) individual that I am, I thought of a couple others examples where an emo group/artist could help out a headline. Feel free to add you own in the comments if you see fit.
- Tour de France leader Michael Rasmussen Out After Testing Postive....brought to you by Dashboard Confessional
- Schilling Calls Out Steroid Users....brought to you by the Cure
- Michael Vick Kills Dogs, Should Kill Himself.....brought to you by Elliot Smith
Okay....that last one was a little over the top, but you get the idea.

Cops Meets The Sports World

You may have already seen this over at Deadspin, but in case you're asking...What The Hell is Deadspin (all .0001% of you)? Then this is news to you! Via The Smoking Gun comes this amazing collection of perps wearing their favorite team's jersey.
The only reason I bring this up is because I have a great story to go along with this. On my drive home from work I pass two very prominent "beggers" on the roads. If I have change I'll give it to them, or occasionally a sandwich or sunflower seeds. Anywho, on the same day both of them had jerseys on! It blew my mind. The first was a Steelers' Tommy Maddox jersey that conjured up jokes that I won't repeat in this space. The second though blew my mind...
I stopped at the intersection and walking towards me with a sign (which I see everyday) was a man wearing an Earl Campbell Oilers' throwback. I mean seriously! How much does that thing cost. Hell...I'd buy it for $40.

ESPN News Anchor Says What We Are All Thinking
You Create the Caption #48
(Usually) Everyday (usually around noon) I'll throw out a photo from the AP or one of the bigger sites and you provide the caption. Hilarity ensues. I'm also adding a handful (or two) of links at the bottom of the page that you should check out each day.

Lee Corso Does Not Understand The Term "Off The Radar"

So College Football Live is off to a roaring start, and my complaints are already piling up. Not really on the show, but more on the "talent". In this clip Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, and Mark May are asked who their "Off The Radar" Players and Teams are. Kirk and Marky Mark give us relatively good sleepers, but Lee Corso just assumes because a team plays late at night (when he's dreaming of pencils) that no one has ever heard of someone...
Hmmm....let's just Google News Mr. Brennan and see what comes up.
(Results 1 - 10 of about 198 from Jul 18, 2007 to today for colt brennan)
That's just the past week. The guy was a 2nd Team All-American and was a finalist for the Davey O'Brien award. He was USA Today's player of the Week in early November, and holds 19 NCAA records.
Yep, that's under the radar. I'll be happy when Corso just goes back to putting on Mascot heads.

Brett Hull's Departure Leads To Dismantling Of The NHL on NBC's Studio Show
This seems rather odd to me since everyone was so up in arms over Brett Hull last year, but The Toronto Globe and Mail is reporting that Hull was maybe a bit more valuable than you might have thought.
Rather than try to search for a replacement for Brett Hull, NBC is scrapping the Studio Show entirely...
In the United States, changes are in the works for NBC's hockey telecasts. Sources say the studio show will be scrapped now that Brett Hull has left to take a front-office job with the Dallas Stars.Bill Clement will obviously be dropped as host if the whole program is gone, and how is Milbury replacing Hull if he's a commentator? Huh Toronto??? Either way it's an odd move. Head to the Toronto G&M link if you care about Hockey Night in Canada, they are going through changes as well.
Replacing Hull will be Mike Milbury, the former NHL player and general manager. He is likely to work on-site as a commentator.
NBC is expected to drop Bill Clement as the host of the NHL broadcasts. The status of analyst Ray Ferraro isn't clear.
Juggling at Hockey Night includes lesser role for Cole (Toronto Globe and Mail)
