Your NFL Wild Card Weekend Schedule (Theismann's Back!)

Monday, January 04, 2010

Wow. What a final Sunday in the NFL, huh? Well at least in the AFC. And guess what....it'll be even better weekend! Why do you ask? Because Joe Theismann will be on NBC's B-Team call of the Jets-Bengals game! That's right, Theismann will be back on the national stage with Tom Hammond, and for some reason, Joe Gibbs.

Other than that, the schedule is pretty much as you'd expect. FOX gets the late game for the second year in a row (FAVRE!), and the other NFC (EAST) matchup will be in primetime on Saturday. Here you have it....

Saturday, January 9th

NY Jets at Cincinnati Bengals (NBC, 4:30pm)- Tom Hammond, Joe Gibbs, Joe Theismann
Philadelphia at Dallas (NBC, 8pm)- Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth

Sunday, January 10th

Baltimore at New England (CBS, 1pm)- Jim Nantz, Phil Simms
Green Bay at Arizona (FOX, 4:30pm)- Joe Buck, Troy Aikman

12 Comments:

What determines Dallas plays on Saturday and Green bay on Sunday?

(yes, a jump-in-the-play-off-wagon):D

Favre? Umm....okay.

Must have gone back to 2007 and the Packers are playing with Favre.

Holy shit, NBC really doesn't want anyone to watch that first game.

No no....I meant that Favre was the reason for this year.

What does Favre have to do with anything? He's not playing this week and the Vikings are an early game next weekend.

They determine the schedule based on ratings. Saturday night is the #1 slot, so that is why Dallas/Philly is playing.

There were rumors that Dick Enberg would call the CBS Wild Card game, since his contract is up at the end of this season with CBS. But since he is not retiring, I guess it wouldn't make sense. It's kind of sad because there was no farewell or announcement by Enberg as he signed off of yesterday's broadcast.

There was other speculation that Jim Nantz, who is a historian of the game, would step aside for one game to let Enberg have one last call. Apparently not the case.

My thoughts on the announcing groups:
Hammond, Gibbs, Theismann: I hate Joe Gibbs! He forces religion on people and then fires them from his staff if they don't agree. Get Lost already! No one likes you!

Michaels, Collinsworth: Michaels the class of broadcasting. Collinsworth, quickly getting there. Great team!

Nantz, Simms: Well informed and announce a solid game week in and week out.

Buck, Aikman: Buck is the worst announcer ever. Good thing daddy got him a job. Hey Joe, look at Chip Caray (a 3rd generation announcer). Don't think that can't happen to you. Hopefully it will. Aikman - there have been better, there have been worse.

Well of course the Cowboys are going to have the highest ratings. Every single one of their games since Thanksgiving has been shown to like 90 percent or more of the country!

If the Bengals were force-fed to us with that consistency, they'd have high ratings too.

Uh, if the Bengals were force fed to us complete with a porterhouse and 18 year old scotch every week, they still wouldn't be as popular as the Cowboys.

Still don't know what Favre has to do with the Fox late game on Sunday even after AA's explanation.

dcs: CBS had a little tribute to Enberg during his game on Sunday. Showed pictures from his childhood and early in his career. Enberg's remark: "Hey, I'm not dying here!"

Thanks for the info on Enberg. I'll have to find a clip of it on youtube.

Anyone catch Al Michael's quote about the NFC East in 2009? I laughed.

"This season, the Eagles owned the Giants, the Giants owned the Cowboys, and the Cowboys owned the Eagles. Everyone owned the Redskins."
