I absolutely love when evening dramas decide to feature Sports stars for certain episodes. Announcers have appeared on various soap operas over the past few years, last year Jordan Farmar and Pau Gasol starred on NUMB3RS, and Gasol even got a non-Baskeball related role in CSI: Miami a few months back (he was in a car accident and died from head trauma....YEAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOW!).
Well the latest Sport (I'm skipping the CSI: NY episode about the Lingere Football League) to get the CSI treatment is Golf, as Rocco Mediate, Duffy Waldorf and Natalie Gulbis will all appear on the show tonight....
A "Body On The Back Nine"? A "Case That's Way Out Of Bounds"?!?!?! I'm sold. I mean Natalie Gulbis on the show alone had me sold, but murder mixed with Golf is an added bonus!

I've tried my best to not give you any Tiger news that you haven't heard already (and that has me posting zero items on it), but I couldn't skip past this nugget from CBS analyst Ian Baker-Finch. In an interview he did with the Sidney Morning Herald, Finch basically said there has been a gag ordered by the "Eye"....
Former British Open champion and respected CBS golf commentator Ian Baker-Finch has been gagged by the US network from talking about Tiger Woods' dramatic fall from grace.Well, I hate to say this to Ian and the folks at CBS, but if you don't talk about it this year, you're not going to have many viewers. I mean, you're not going to have many anyway, but you mind as well try for as many as you can if you ask me.
"Mate, if I say one word about Tiger I will get fired," Baker-Finch said before playing in Australia's richest one-day pro-am at Wynnum Golf Club today.

Tiger Woods went on to easily win the Buick Open yesterday, but it didn't come without some drama on the 18th. Up three strokes going into the last hole, Tiger played his drive into the fairway. While he waited for his chance at shot number two, someone decided it was the perfect time to release their bowels....
Now some of you may think that was fake, but I assure you that was exactly what was played live on CBS. Good times in the PGA this season.
David Feherty Would Like To Tell You What U.S. Soldiers Think

I've always liked David Feherty, but the guy certainly has the habit of going a little too far when he's trying to make a point. This time, he may have gone too far. In a column he penned for D Magazine, Feherty tried to make an analogy about U.S. Soldiers that included the deaths of Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid. The statement was so shocking that it even earned him Olbermann's "Worst Person In The World" for this past Friday. Here's the quote, and the MSNBC video....
"From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this, though: despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama bin Laden, there's a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death."- David Feherty

Talk about terrible analogies. However, I don't think CBS is going to be firing Feherty anytime soon, as Olbermann seemed to be calling for. The network has already classified the statement as "unacceptable attempt on humor", and Feherty has apologized via a statement from his agent: "The passage was a metaphor meant to describe how American troops felt about our 43rd president. In retrospect, it was inappropriate and unacceptable, and has clearly insulted Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid, and for that, I apologize."

Thanks to the eagle eye of a few viewers of the final round of the Masters yesterday, Total Pro Sports can share with us a "boob grab like no other". Tiger landed his approach on the 15th green, and a gentleman in the crowd decided to celebrate just a little too much with his lady friend....
Beautiful! There's nothing better than a public breast grabbing to show your excitement. I was going to do a post on the great finish, and the great ratings the Masters received, but I think that video is much better.

ESPN and CBS have worked well over the past few years to split up major Golf tournaments, and this year's coverage of the Masters will be no different. ESPN will have the first two rounds, as well as the Par 3 contest, and CBS will take over for rounds three and four. In addition to that, CBS will also be streaming the action online, with live looks on 11-16. To get the full coverage, you have to get Masters Extra, which will carry the CBS feed. Oh, and there will also be an IPhone App release for perusal on your telephones....

No, the first story I, your faithful weekend presence, gets to deal with in his triumphant return to Awful Announcing (hi, by the way) is that old standby: racial slurs! Wheeeeee!
The story comes from Michael David Smith at The FanHouse. Rather than simply restating the facts, let's let him tell it:
During today's Masters broadcast, CBS announcer Bobby Clampett referred to Chinese golfer Liang Wen-Chong as "the chinaman."Oh, Bobby. That ain't cool, no matter what the commenters on Smith's post have to say about it. (Seriously, read the first two. Ah-may-zing stuff right there.) There are certain words that those of us who live in the 21st century no longer use; this is certainly one of them.
According to CBS spokeswoman LeslieAnne Wade, Clampett later apologized on the Masters webcast.
Clampett has been working Amen Corner the last two days, and his commentary can be heard both online and on DirecTV. He used the "chinaman" slur while describing Liang's round and explaining that he will not make the cut.
At least he was mindful enough of his slipup to issue an apology...sort of:
"It has been a privilege to be here with you the last 2 days describing action of all of the players. In describing the Asian player Wen-Chong Liang if I offended anybody please accept me sincere apologies."I like to call this the Hardaway Method of apologizing: "I'm still not sure I said anything wrong, but if I did, I'm sorry for saying whichever part offended you." As Smith notes, "This style of apology...always rings a bit hollow."

I read an interview with Jim Nantz once where said he honestly doesn't prepare his "Championship Calls" beforehand. With the NCAA Championship tonight and the Masters this weekend he's got a lot of stuff to "not prepare" for. Or has he already planned them out?
According to this quote from a CBS conference call regarding the Masters it appears that he does think them out in advance....
Nantz: I feel a tremendous amount of responsibility to put the right caption and the right story and the right description of what this means within that players heart. They have dreamt of that moment since they were a little boy and they wanted to go the Augusta and win there. And I do feel like I owe it to them to be on top of my game and be able to tell their story in an accurate fashion, to be able to reflect exactly what they are feeling at that moment. I have stories about certain players, anecdotal stuff that I've never used. I'm holding it back for the thought that one day they might win the Masters and if that moment arrives on Sunday, I'm going to tell a story that has never been told before.Aww that's sweet. Although it makes you come across as disingenuous and not "in the moment", but whatever works for you. In related news....what do you think his call for the winner of tonight's game will be. My predictions are "And the Tigers roar all the way to the Championship!" or "We're not in Kansas anymore Toto, but Kansas IS the National Champion here in San Antonio!" I think the second one is definitely a winner....someone send that to Nantzy.

Golf Analyst David Feherty Hit By Truck

In my lifetime I've actually been hit by two cars while running. Both were at slow speeds and the only thing injured were the cars when I kicked the s**t out of them. Obviously neither of those incidents resulted in multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung.....
Golf analyst David Feherty broke three ribs and punctured his lung when he was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle near his home in Dallas. He expects to be fully recovered in time for the Masters.I rather enjoy Feherty's goofiness on usually rather dull telecasts, so hopefully he gets well soon.
Feherty said Friday he was returning from his morning bicycle ride a day earlier when a truck hauling irrigation equipment pinched him into the curb and he was struck by the side mirror.
"He didn't want to hit the car on the left, so he ran over the cyclist on the right," Feherty said. "I don't remember a whole lot about it. There was a lady on the scene quickly, keeping me conscious. The next thing I know, I'm at Baylor Medical Center, the only hospital in the United States that doesn't have The Golf Channel."
He then asked who was leading the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
