Boise State Has The Best Majors And Cowbell Girl Will Rock Your World!

Monday, January 04, 2010

I guess I gave it away with the title, but since there's no open thread for tonight, I had to give you something to bide your time. Try to find the typo in this screencap from reader MP....

Okay everyone....I have been one upped by the cowbell girl. Someone needs to get this girl some media availability. She's going to be a star tomorrow!

Find The Typo: Dewey Defeats Truman 4-3!

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

One of my favorite genre of typo is when large sites prematurely post results to big games, even though the entire world knows the real result. The best example of this happened last night when MLB.com decided to hit publish on a pre-made story, and didn't bother to watch the bottom of the ninth....

Whoops. I remember the game happening more like this....

Can we also bring up the fact that there was never a throw to home plate? Another great game-winning call by Chip Caray.

I know TBS doesn't air the World Series but you'd at least think they could spell the Fall Classic right....

FOX Decides To Promote Monday Night Football

Friday, October 02, 2009

Most networks work very well together in cross promotion, but FOX took it to another level this week. The network put up billboards in various cities throughout the U.S., and on it they hyped Brett Favre's first game against his former team. But they forgot one thing, the game isn't on FOX this weekend....it's on ESPN, Monday Night. Via KSK....

I guess you could argue that the studio crew will be talking about the game on Sunday morning, but it seems like something they decided to do before the season. ESPN probably isn't complaining.

People Magazine Not Exactly Sure Who Erin Andrews Is

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

People Magazine has decided to piggyback on this whole Erin Andrews on Oprah thing, but they have a slight problem. They seem to think that Andrews is actually Heidi Watney. Via Deadspin....

Find The Typo: College Girls Love Bert Blyleven

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

I'm going to save all jokes about the Colleges in Minnesota, and just give you this photo to examine. This girl is attending her last Twins game before going to College, and she wants Twins' analyst, Bert Blyleven, to "highlight" her. Can you find the typo, via Hot Clicks?

Well We Know Who The NHL Wants To Win Game Seven

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I have no idea why league websites always do this, but if you go to NHL.com right now, you can buy your very own Detroit Red Wings 2009 Stanley Cup Champions T-shirt! Take a look....

I mean, I'm rooting for them as much as the next person (sorry...have hated the Penguins since birth), but that could be a little damning. Hopefully they haven't planned the parade already too.

ABC Typos At The Bee, And L-A-O-D-I-C-E-A-N

Thursday, May 28, 2009

So ABC was doing a wonderful job covering the Scripps National Spelling Bee, up until they tried to put up a graphic illustrating what the winner receives. How a network could misspell a word at Spelling Bee is hilarious, but especially so when said word is "Educational". Via Bklyn Josh....

Too funny. Other than that it was a great broadcast, and very entertaining. If I learned anything, it's that contestant Kennyi needs his own show and/or Youtube channel, and the winner Kavya Shivashankar knows every word known to man....including Laodicean. Congrats!

Find The Typo: Another ESPN Poll

Monday, May 04, 2009

I love when ESPN post stories early, and automatically has teams winning or accidentally puts one into the next round, but this even better than that. Tell me if you can find the typo in this latest poll....

Ah yes. My favorite part of the poll though, is that the ESPN readers only have it at 65%! Too funny.

ESPN's Grades The Graders, Has A Small Problem Though

Monday, April 27, 2009

I can't stand sifting through draft grades, because they're even more pointless than mock drafts. You don't know what the criteria is (Did the team fill needs? Did the team draft the best player in that spot?), and teams drafting for defense always seem to score lower (see: Skins, Red). Well ESPN has taken such grading to a whole new level. They are grading the graders.

ESPN took a handful of people from various publications (USA Today, CBS Sportsline, etc), and averaged out their grades, to give each team a "GPA" for the draft. The Eagles scored the highest, while the Raiders failed miserably. There's only one problem....they didn't take the time to look closely at each grader's work. Larry Weisman's piece from the USA Today is from 2008. Heck he even has a photo up top of Glenn Dorsey, Chris Long and Matt Ryan....

Don't you think they would have noticed that Wiesman gave the Raiders a "C"? Well, FoxSports.com's John Czarnecki gave them one too, but you know what I mean. Plus, now all of the GPAs are completely off. Such a shame too.

Find The Typo: The Texas Mets

Monday, April 06, 2009

ESPN's Baseball Graphics Department had a bit of a slip up today, and while it wasn't that bad, it was still pretty funny. The start of the Mets-Reds game was delayed about ten minutes, and when ESPN finally got around to introducing the lineups, they accidentally showed a graphic of the Ballpark in Arlington and a Rangers logo behind a shot of David Wright....

Again, not that bad of a slip up, especially when you consider that the Rangers are playing on ESPN2, but still a bit humorous.

"Interactive Tuesday" Continues To Bring Me Joy

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

It's still the worst idea in the history of television (yes, I'm exaggerating), but if it's going to provide screenshots like the one below for this site, I'm all for it! Via Deadspin....

Find The Typo: The Interactive Tuesday Edition

Wednesday, January 28, 2009

ESPN continues to plow ahead with the silly "Interactive Tuesday" shenanigans, and each Tuesday you can tell that it's a work in progress. Last night's edition was during the BC-MD (not a word about the game you commenters!) and during the second half, the "Leader" decided to put up this awesome poll! Via Mister Irrelevant....

I'm personally thinking that the Big East will get two teams in the tourney, the ACC one, the Rice Conference one and the Vasquez will be in the N.I.T. just like last year. It's just about intervention time, ESPN. Interactive Tuesday has worn out its welcome. Actually that's not true. It was never welcomed to begin with.

Digger Phelps Enjoys A Good Funeral Joke

Monday, January 26, 2009

There are a lot of unfunny things that are said during broadcasts, but Digger Phelps might have just taken the cake this past weekend. During the College Basketball version of Gameday on Saturday, Rece Davis commented on a green carnation that Phelps was wearing in honor of the show being at Notre Dame University. Of course Digger couldn't just say that he was wearing it because he used to Coach in South Bend. No, he decided to make a joke that he robbed a corpse at a funeral earlier in the day....

"This has been thirty five years old, this....yeah. I stole it from a grave yesterday, it was a funeral, I went and got it."- Digger Phelps

Not funny. There are certainly worse things that can and have been said, but that comment just made me sick to my stomach. Good job by everyone else on the set moving on, and not coming up with any tacky "Grave Digger" followup attempts at humor.

Now if you want funny, you need go not go any further than ESPN.com's unintentional headline in regards to the same game....

Mmmmmmm.....Steak. Now that's funny!

Find The Typo: What Gives Away The Fact That It's ESPNU Campus Connection Week?

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Ahh ESPNU Campus Connection Week. Where young aspiring broadcasters and production folk get the wonderful opportunity to work with the best in the business! College kids from all walks of life get to participate in broadcasts across the Country, and some are actually pretty good on-air. In fact you wouldn't even know there was a difference between the amateurs and the pros, unless you were paying really close attention....

Those Jounralism Majors are getting such a great opportunity and hands on experience during CC Week! All kidding aside though, I think it's a great idea and would have jumped at the chance when I was back in School. Hey, and for all we know, that could have been a full-time, 40-year old ESPN employee who doesn't know how to spell Journalism.

Get Your Oklahoma 2009 National Champions Commemorative Football!

Friday, January 09, 2009

In case you weren't watching last night, or haven't looked at the papers this morning, Oklahoma lost the National Championship to Florida. Well according to emailer DY, Fox Sports Southwest just aired this commercial....

I don't know about you, but one day I'm going to start collecting merchandise that says the losing team of Championships actually won. How cool would it be to walk into a bar with a "1999 Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl Champions" t-shirt on? Pretty damn cool, I tell you!

The NY Post Knows Why OU Lost, Julio Iglesias Was Their Go To WR

The Sports Hernia came across this hilarious typo in the NY Post today (both in print and online [3rd to last paragraph]), and it might explain why Oklahoma just couldn't get their wide receivers going last night. Their goto guy was 65-year old, Latin singer Julio Iglesias....

It was obviously late when they posted the article, but good lord, it's been almost 10 hours! You can fix it by now, can't you? Guess not because it still reads "Julio".
