Phil Simms Likes It What?
Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Before I get into this post, I want to make two things clear. First, this quote is taken completely out of context. Second, I have a twelve year-old's sense of humor. With that out of the way, let's take a look back at the AFC Championship game and Phil Simms saying he "likes it tight", while Jim Nantz chuckles!
Too good. I like how Phil pointed out that he mentioned "he likes it tight" during Halftime, and still thought it would be a good idea to say it going into the second half. At least he knows what he likes. Good for you, Phil. Good for you.

Mike Greenberg Gets In The Spirit Of MLK Day
Man, of all of the slip up you could have on Martin Luther King Day, this one has to be the worst. Mike Greenberg was bringing the M&M show back from one of their thousand commercials yesterday, when this happened....
Yep, he most definitely said "Martin Luther Coon Day", and now he's trying to 'splain himself as best he can. His statement via ESPN....
I just came home from the Knicks game and found out about the mess that was created by my garbling a sentence on our show this morning; I apologize for not addressing it sooner.I think it's fairly obvious that it was a slip of the tongue, and unintentional, but the what, how and when are just mind boggling.
And I'm sorry that my talking too fast — and slurring my words — might have given people who don't know our show the wrong impression about us, and about me.
I feel horrible about that, because nothing could be further away from who I am and what our show is about.
I would never say anything like that, not in public, or in private, or in the silence of my own mind, and neither would anyone associated with our show, and I'm very sorry that my stumble this morning gave so many people the opposite impression.

Jim Nantz Not Really Sure What Country Had That Big Earthquake Problem
Monday, January 18, 2010
I got about ten emails, right before the end of the half during the AFC Championship Game, stating that Jim Nantz had a bit of an issue when trying to do a promo for 60 Minutes. The emailers asked if I had heard Nantz pronounce the country in which the recent devastating earthquake took place as Haitia (Hay-Shu), instead of Haiti (Hay-Tee). Well yes folks, he sure did, and here is your video proof....
I love the fact that he just glossed over the Haiti part of 60 Minutes, and got right to the Samoa-NFL connection. I'm sorry....I pronounced that wrong. The Simwowa-NFL connection.

Could Someone Get This Silly Hurt Player Off The Field For Pammy....NOW!
Monday, December 28, 2009
Ah yes, what holiday season would be complete without a clip from Pam Ward to celebrate your New Year? Pammy thought she was throwing it to the studio for an update during the thrilling Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, but alas....she was still on live. Enjoy (from KSJ via Deadspin)!
The irony of all of this is that Ray Bentley went on a ten minute spiel about how professional was (when discussing females in Sports because of the female ref) earlier in the game. Too funny, and I a perfect video to end the decade with. Where would I be without you Pammy?
XOXO,

This Young Villanova Fan Has A Message For You
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
A correct use of a middle finger during a broadcast can be hilarious, but when it comes from a little kid, it's f'ing awesome! This little Villanova fan has a message for you this holiday season....
Man they start them young in Philly don't they? I love how the dad almost knocked the kid in the head, but then remembered he was on television too. Too funny.

Josh McDaniels Channels His Inner Herm Edwards
Friday, November 27, 2009
Everyone knows the famous Herman Edwards quote, "you play to win the game," including Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels. Josh, however, decided to update it for live television with just a bit of cursing last night (very NSFW)....
No one gets the NFL Network anyway, why not let curses on the air?

Greg Dickerson Doesn't Appreciate Your Cursing Mr. Garnett
Thursday, November 05, 2009
I admit that being a sideline reporter is not always an easy job. You have to fight to get interviews with players and coaches, and when you finally get them they usually turn out to be repetitive and mundane. Greg Dickerson did just that with Kevin Garnett last night, but his interview was anything but mundane. Garnett decided to curse right when Dickerson brought the mic to him, and then shot the Celtics' superstar one of the dirtiest looks you will ever see....
You can't exactly tell what he says, but you can clearly hear the f-word. I'm thinking that he said "get the f**k out of here", but I could be wrong. Too funny though.

Dana Jacobson Forgets Stephen A. Is No Longer Employed By ESPN
Wednesday, July 15, 2009
First Take has been shuffling co-hosts with Skip Bayless, since Stephen A. Smith's contract wasn't renewed by ESPN, and the process has apparently confused Dana Jacobson greatly. Bayless' "opponent" today was College Basketball analyst, Stephen Bardo, and the fact that another person with the same first name as SAS was on the show, cause Jacobson to slip up a bit....
Obviously it's an honest mistake, and she caught her error, but still hilarious. Maybe they should just stick with the two Stews for awhile until the glow of SAS has disappeared from the show. Too funny.

ESPN Gives Baseball Fans The Angle They've Always Wanted
Tuesday, June 16, 2009
I try to pick and choose these days when it comes to Erin Andrews, but I couldn't pass on this one. Fanhouse caught a camera angle of the sideline princess that has to be seen to be believed, but first some back ground....
Monday during the College World Series game between Arkansas and LSU, ESPN2 had a bit of a snafu with their footage of America's sideline princess. For 20-30 seconds the network, according to a viewer who e-mailed the screen grab on the right, switched to a camera angle that featured a, how shall we put this delicately, derrière shot of Ms. Andrews. Doubtless ESPN has an awful lot of cameras covering the on-field action, but this one ... not so much.Hmmm....sound intriguing. So what can I see this angle that they speak of?

Ohhhhhhh....so that's the angle. Well then. The EA Butt Cam could possibly have a shelf life with the "Leader". And thanks to reader JL, we also have the video!

Joe Buck Live Overtime Gets Even More Uncomfortable

Well if you thought that the on-air segment with Artie Lange was uncomfortable, you ain't seen nothin' yet. The comedic panel stuck around for "Joe Buck Show Overtime", and the insults just kept on a flyin'. The video is a bit choppy, but you'll be able to make it out....
Ummm....yeah. I don't even have words really. I'm hearing word that none of that was planned, or was it appreciated by Buck himself. So very uncomfortable. During the live segment it was kind of funny, but that was just downright uncalled for. By the end, it just seemed forced and venomous. Thank god for Paul Rudd's comedic timing. Good lord.

There's nothing better than an event that causes people to laugh uncontrollably, especially one that comes on live television! Mike Vick Sneaks Past ESPN's Cameras
Wednesday, May 20, 2009
I mentioned last week that ESPN planned to stalk Michael Vick as he left Leavenworth today. Well apparently Vick used his once elusive Football skills, to escape the "Leader's" (and every other media outlet) cameras. Here is Hannah Storm talking about just that with on-site reporter Kelly Naqi. Via Fang's Bites....
How funny is that? On the surface you would think it'd be virtually impossible to leave undetected, but that's obviously not the case. All that work for a shot of a random reporter standing in the wind outside of a prison. Good times.

ESPNU Gets Pornographic
Monday, May 04, 2009

It wasn't that long ago that we were sharing with you the Super Bowl Edition of channel's that randomly switch to porn, and today we've got the ESPNU edition for you. Via Deadspin....
There can't be that many people watching ESPNU at 3:17AM, but on Saturday there was at least one, and he got a little surprise while hunting for a late-night sports fix (very NSFW).Well that's certainly unfortunate. Although, I'm pretty sure that less than ten people were watching ESPNU at three in the morning. The bigger question though, is how this actually happens. I've never seen anything like this happen on my cable, and of course, am completely jealous of said accounts.
An insomniac Deadspin reader was flipping through the channels in his south Texas abode early Saturday morning (or late Friday night, if you prefer) when this not-unpleasing-to-the-eye image gave him pause. Thankfully, for the good of humanity, he had a camera handy. Either Time Warner Cable is having trouble keeping the porn out of their non-porn feeds or an ESPNU employee was making a strong statement about Duke basketball.
If you would like to see the porno, feel free to click over to Deadspin. It is definitely NSFW though.

Roger Millions Uses Interesting Vocabulary Following A Flub On Live TV
Friday, April 17, 2009
Roger Millions is a reporter for Rogers Sportsnet in Canada, and while doing a piece on the Calgary Flames, he accidentally let a heck of a phrase slip out. Millions thought he was being taped, and when he botched a line, he decided to drop "cocksucker" on the viewing audience. Take a look (obviously NSFW)....
Wow. Now that certainly was a "blooper", now wasn't it?

Who Is This Jose Posada You Speak Of, Bob Costas?
Thursday, April 16, 2009
I've been watching the Yankees' first game at their new stadium on the MLB Network for most of the afternoon, to see how good of a transition Bob Costas is making back into the booth. For the better part of the game, he (along with Reynolds and Kaat) has been doing a great job, but he had a pretty big gaff during the fifth inning.
If you're going to get the opportunity to call the first homerun at Yankee Stadium, and people will hear the call forever, you might want to get the player's name right as he rounds the bases....
Whoops! Again, he's been great for most of the afternoon, but that was a pretty big slip up right there. I'm thinking the Yankees will file away the YES Network's call, instead of Costas'.

Tales From The News Desk: Volleyball Lady Passes Out
Wednesday, March 25, 2009
This clip is as equally funny as it is scary. Nikki Allen is on the beach with a reporter from News 13 in Florida, and she's supposed to discuss an upcoming Volleyball Tournament. Unfortunately Nikki isn't exactly used to being on live television....
I love how the reporter goes to help her, then immediately remembers to get back in the frame and throw it back to the studio first. Sorry Nik, but I've got a career to worry about!

MLB Network's Live Broadcasts Need Some Work
Thursday, February 26, 2009

It's Spring Training for the MLB Network, and with little time to prepare, they've already jumped into the live broadcasting game. Their first effort was yesterday during the Indians-Giants game, and to say the least, there were a few hiccups. Via the San Francisco Chronicle....
The Major League Baseball Network butchered its first live telecast. As the Giants and Cleveland Indians launched the exhibition season Wednesday in the barren Arizona outpost of Goodyear, MLBN missed the first 15 minutes while airing a feature on "The Greatest Hitting Seasons of All Time."The delay isn't really that big of a deal, because I don't know of many people that would not watch their local broadcast over the MLB-N feed, but the delay at the start of the game is pretty bad. Luckily for the network though, they have over 40 more tries this Spring. Here is their preseason schedule if you're interested....
This made the KNBR radio broadcast especially valuable, and as MLB stumbled along, trying to pick up the Indians' feed on SportsTime Ohio, I got to hear Jon Miller borrow a line from San Diego's Jerry Coleman, master of the malaprop, and call Randy Winn's first-inning drive "a sun-blown popup."
Sticking with KNBR for my audio (the Indians' crew was no match for Miller and Dave Flemming), I was expecting the usual live-action delay between radio and television, and MLB was hopelessly behind: a full 17 seconds. But who's complaining on a day of such enlightening developments?

Another Golf Channel Analyst In Hot Water
Monday, February 09, 2009

About a year ago, the Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman was briefly suspended for her "lynching" comments in regards to Tiger Woods, and today another analyst on the network has been suspended. Former PGAer Andrew Magee, who is an on-course reporter, has been "disciplined" for a comment made to analyst Gary McCord, about a funny t-shirt that he saw a fan wearing. Via CBS Sports....
Magee, serving as a roving reporter during the second-round broadcast, told the network he believed he was off the air when he mentioned to fellow analyst Gary McCord that he had just seen a fan wearing a T-shirt that read, "I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts for eating a brownie."I'm confused. Were there really that many people out there who were actually offended enough to contact the network? And on top of that, how many people do you think even get the joke? I admit that I myself had to think about it for a few seconds before it registered. While I have yet to hear how the presence of the t-shirt was exactly relayed over the airwaves, it seems like this is a non-issue. I think the Golf Channel's stance of the comment being "inappropriate", is the right one, and in no way should Magee be suspended.
McCord, who works primarily for CBS Sports, didn't react verbally and there were several moments of dead air following the comment.
Golf Channel spokesman Dan Higgins said the network received several e-mail complaints from viewers about the remark. The Golf Channel's online message boards have been filled with fan feedback on the matter.
"He was disciplined for that," Higgins said, from Orlando. "It was a mistake. He's fairly new in the role of on-course reporter, which is no excuse, but he has been disciplined, yes.
"It was inappropriate."
Update: It appears that Magee has actually been suspended and will be off the air for one week starting today.
